There is a happy, but sad story that surrounds it

The man who was selling it said that it was his father's Playmobil, which he had bought new, and set up a diorama in one of his rooms in his house. That was the only time that the Playmobil came out.

The man sadly passed away from motor nueron Disease, and the Playmobil has been packed away into the loft for a long time and has only just come down.

The son who was selling it knew that I did exibitions as I told him, and he let me have it all for a good price (we all knew what the sets were worth) providing that one of my exibitions I can raise some money for the motor nueron charity.

The train and carriages still come with their original brown factory boxes

It is the most amount of money I have spent on Playmobil in one go

Aw, that's kind of a sweet story. It's always sad to hear about a playmobil collector passing away. :'( But I'm sure he would be thrilled to know it has fallen into such good hands, and being kept all together.

Damo you are so lucky! And the background story on this purchase is very moving! I do hope you achieve the goal this man asked you to  :)

Wow, :omg: where did you find it Damo?
A very sad background, but it's gone to a good home.
If you decide to do an exhibition let me know, I'd be glad to help, I had a cousin who died of MND so think it's a very good cause.
BTW now you've got a new one, does this mean you won't want your 'old' Colorado Springs station now?  ;D

I found it on ebay (the seller had only listed the train, extra cariages and track) so I contacted them to see if I could view

But get this, the Playmobil was only two streets away in my village! How awesome is that?! ;D ;D ;D

I have been considering my own exibition in the village for a while, but the thought of setting it all up scares me very much. I could give half the donations to the hall, and half to the charity, say.

My old station will probably be available (although it is a little damaged etc and missing a few parts though) I just need to sort it all out, but I shall give you first refusal if I do ;)

Damo :)

A brilliant buy Damo. I am sure that the man who owned it all would be very pleased that someone with a love of Playmobil bought it. I look forward to seeing it all set up.

great buy, boxes seem to be in good condition. Your Colorado station, is it the one with polystyrene or cardboard box? I already have these sets and they are very nice

Great set of stuff Damo. You should look into doing a show if you can. You might check with the local chapter of the charity and see if they have a hall venue available, or know of a good one for a good price. They may be willing to promote the event, to their own members at least, if they will be benefiting from it.

yes, there are the polystyrene and the cardboard box. I bought the 2 sets in a store, but I kept the polystyrene box, because it's the older version.

Tim,
Some great ideas! Charities love any reason for a special fundraising event and usually like making these events come to life.
Damo,
You really hit a home run with this purchase! Glad you got it locally and can fulfill the seller's wishes. Maybe they could add a PM auction of sets donated by willing owners to raise more funds. Cheers, Pgal

Come on, pgal, an auction is a silly idea :D - they might as well just pass the stuff straight to me! >:D >:D >:D ;)

I'll buy anything if it's Playmobil (apart from that hideous Blackbeard's pirate ship!)

Damo :)
