Hello everyone,
I've always liked the Victorian era and the colonial wars/adventures and this is a period to which Playmobil lends itself to perfectly. (Unlike Napoleonic or world war era...)
After watching the movie Zulu again, I felt like starting up a project about the Anglo-Zulu war of 1879. The war was fought between the British Empire and the Zulu Kingdom. The British won. ;D
I'm gathering parts for both British and Zulu forces and I'll be adding native units (who fought alongside the British) aswell. The iconical Pith helmet will have to be replaced by the Playmobil tropical helmet (more of a French/Belgian/German design I believe).
The standard British infantryman is quite hard to recreate since I need green cuffs and collars for them. (You can help by going to the trade subforum! :D ) And the fact that the only suitable torsos are from the Royal Guard specials and Mounties... So I'll stick with plain red torsos untill something better pops up.
I do however have the perfect uniforms for these chaps:

And voila!

I'm working on more artillery crewmen but I've run out of tropical helmets. :P
I'm thinking about replacing the canon with the blue confederates one, atleast if I can find it for a decent price.
I'm not sure whether these men carried rifles or bayonets since I couldn't find any reference, but I presume they do.

That's it for now, but this thread will be updated when new troops arrive. :)
Cheers,
Gaetano

Oh, I can't wait to see more of this! I must have seen Zulu a thousand times, used to scare me silly as a kid. It's one of my dad's favorites. Looking forward to seeing the opposing forces!!!

Those are magnificent customs, tanotrooper!
You have quite the attention to detail. Great job! :)

nice theme and nice customs Gaetano!
yes, slowly add klickies as you find more parts and those tropical hats...its fun this way too instead of buying 20 hats and kickies from DS and assembling them all in one night :P
when I'm waiting for hats, what I do is make one or two more similar customs but without hats as if they lost their hats in battle or that they took off their hats...

Nice ones, hope to see more soon.
