Title: drum harness & Taiko drums
Post by: cheng on November 02, 2011, 07:22:58
2 questions here;

Q1: anybody has this circus clown and can take a photo of both the harness and drum separately? (I'm hoping to customise a drum carried by a Ashigaru)

Q2: anyone has this very old PM red indian drum and can take a photo to show both sides of the drum skins? can the drum be separated into two? and is the printing actually just a sticker?(most probably so in such old sets) which set does it come from? (cant find it in playmoDb :P)
I promise not to ask for the ETN (number) ;D

Nope, don't have either.
These guys are way too scary.....I vote for the clown, who is much less threatening!
Could we make him Asian somehow....oooops, I don't recall seeing any clowns in Asia, Pgal

no worries Pgal!
btw our PM versions have cute faces and are usually smiling....I wouldnt want to collect those plastic scaled figures anymore.

Can't help unfortunately, however I do hope you find them because it will become spectacular customs.

I don't have that clown, but the harness is VERY similar to the diver breathing tank harness, so you could use those instead
http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-21-0720

I don't have that indian drum but it is in this set
http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3732

and it comes as a single "half" drum with a stand under it...the same mold was used for this part which is current enough to still be available... it also has stickers

I have no clue about the clown, but you can check my drums  ;)

These are no stickers, they are print-ons. and Baron is correct, its one skindrum and not two. there is an even older skindrum in 3328x - Indian Warrior (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3328x) and 3569 - Medicine Man and Warriors (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3569) which had stickers.

thanks anyway conniefrere!

and thanks a lot Baron!
I do have a yellow harness with a tank clipped on...but I couldnt find it in playmoDb....maybe it actually belongs to the circus clown (but I only started collecting much later) so as you rightly pointed out, the stubs/pegs for fitting into the tank or clown's drums are the same.

very nice set 3732...very clear thanks to collectobil...at least now I'm sure this part (if I ever find one or better still, 2) wont be anything like those blown-up soft plastic toys

same mould? I think you meant the one with 3 legs (and not the animal trainers's green pedestal)

The yellow harness is more commonly found as this:

30 02 9640 - Diver's vest (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-02-9640)

Yours is probably from one of these underwater sets if it had a tank on it.

Both vests are the same I think

oh thanks for clearing this bit of mystery for me! I didnt see it in playmoDb, how embarassing :-[ so if I bought only the clown's drums, I hope it will fit properly onto my yellow diver's vest then! ;)

you guys are a great help....I didnt expect much response...if i did I would have split the thread into 2 instead of asking about the harness and a different drum, probably confusing some curious readers...thanks!!

nope these drums are both from a 3732. both print on. the older skindrum is exactly the smae as these in the picture but that was decorated with stickers.

thanks again WK! me too...I thought otherwise :P maybe we speak different English :P so its clear now...

last question WK, if you have the parts and time, can you compare the sizes of this old half-drum with the newer aboriginal drum and the old anvil base only if its convenient to :)
Title: Re: drum harness & Taiko drums
Post by: Baron Marshall on November 02, 2011, 14:47:34
no i meant the drum/pedestal the green animal trainer pedestal is in fact identical to the drum... except that it is cast in olive green plastic. :)

this part (the drum/pedestal) may still be available
Title: Re: drum harness & Taiko drums
Post by: cheng on November 02, 2011, 15:27:06
Baron, thanks again!!!
now I see it! (i only looked at the green drawing and it looked different and small but looking at the box photos blown up, I can see they come from the same mould!)

these green pedestals can be sprayed brown if I fail to find those old drums....they do look much wider, being able to accomodate a tiger...now if WK can show us a photo with the drum side-by-side with the newer (maybe much smaller) aboriginal drum...I hope its at least 50% bigger in diameter :) ;)

We do have communication problems today  Which is the newer aboriginal drum you refer to? because all these drums (the one in 3328, 3569, 3732, and the green one from the circus set) are all from the same mould. They are exactly the same. Or do you perhaps mean this one? 30 62 9470 - Drum top (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-62-9470) this is actually totally different from the indian ones, smaller, and comprised of two parts. There is an indian one based on this mould too.

sorry Damo ;D(like i said...some readers will get bonkers 8}over these chatter of ours)

yes WK, I meant to compare size between these big indian drums with the zebra skin aboriginal drum...50% longer diameter at least I hope ;)

cheng, the only drum I have available is in the funpark diorama so I can't measure it, and the other one is still in a sealed box... somewhere in the MIB sets... But yes the aboriginal drum fits in this old indian drum. I doubt I have another free but I'll have a look around.

I have both the drum (single one) and the clown's drum and harness - I have tried to take photos from different angles...

I don't have a spare indian drum, but the clown's drum and harness is spare as I don't have the drumstick for it and have a 2 complete ones that I use in my circus, so you are very welcome to it cheng if you can use it.

WOH!! I must check out these Mr.Bean clips
(I thought I have seen all his tv series many many times and apart from his movies, there are no others...I didnt realise there are such sketches available on u-tube! Thanks WK!)

dont worry about measuring them...I hope we are not facing yet another communication problem...you see, when you say "the aboriginal(zebra skin) drum fits in this old (3732) indian drum"....do you mean the zebra-skin drum is smaller and fits into the back of the 3732 drum? (lets settle this bit before Damo faints)
Title: Re: drum harness & Taiko drums

Dear Elaine, your photo are very clear....
I think the harness peg looks horizontal while the diver's tank is vertical so the pegs of the diver's harness wont fit into the drum I'm afraid (do you happen to have a diver's vest?)

so very kind of you to offer your spare clown's drum and harness, please just hold on to them, I doubt DS still has them...its too expensive for you to post them to me. Only as a last resort will I ask for them ;)
and only if you can give me your most scratched drum & harness, since I will be covering the clown stickers & psraying the harness brown :P
(alternatively, I can mail you a pair of drum sticks)

do you have the zebra skin aboriginal drumskin (or this same mould indian drum skin)?
can you compare the size with your old indian single-sided drum?

(I'm glad we are using slow indian drum beats to communicate..WK might enjoy it but Damo wont last that long )

Yes Cheng, the harness peg is horizontal.
I might have a diver with a harness, but I'm not sure, I'll have to look, but I do have the zebra drum, I'll try and find it - I think it's in my 'jungle' tub, and check the size of it for you later today.

The pegs on the diver suit are vertical... well actually, it's two pegs, one on top of the other, though each peg is actually horizontal. The one I'm looking at is blue, but I have it in several colors, and they're all the same. Tomorrow I can try to find a yellow one and take a pic if you need it, if no one else has yet.

thanks Elaine!
yes, do take an arial photo so I can compare their diameters ;)

and thanks too BB!
I can visualise what you described...so its confirmed then that the diver harnesses wont hold the drum without some cutting (not as difficult as SpeedoDad's torso) but might not hold tightly enough so its better for me to get the drum harness
(no need to photograph your yellow diver harness

(you ladies have no reservations in feeding this customiser-of-violence? ;D :P)
Title: Re: drum harness & Taiko drums
Post by: bonniebeth on November 03, 2011, 03:48:19
  No reservations at all!

Yeah, the pegs are much narrower on the diver harness, so I don't think there's much hope of it holding the drum.

oh, thats good news WK! so I shall get 2 of those big half-drums to make a japanese Taiko drum...even if it means getting 2 green tiger pedestals and spraying them red! (brown is fine but if i'm spraying them might as well give them to my blood-red ashigarus ;D......our ladies here will support customisers of blood-red samurais ;)

I didn't manage to get to the zebra drum cheng because I needed help in lifting the box, but all the able bodied men here were too busy to help  :'(
However, I checked on postage prices and the clown harness and drum would only cost £2.07 to send to Malaysia, so I think it would be cheaper than trying to get one through ds, even if it were possible.  The clown and circus signs on the drum are only stickers so will remove easily.

hey Elaine, (since KW has confirmed the single-sided old drums are bigger than the zebra-skin) your able-bodied men dont have to do your bidding later on ;D although it means youre no cleopatra at home ;D you might have to work on your queen-control skills ;D

Usually I will bunch up my DS orders and patiently wait but we both agree that these old parts are most probably no longer available.

Parcel posts to UK coats me £7.16 for the first 250g (thereafter every 250 g is only £1.54) 8}

I guess you mean sending them as 'documents' but our post office does not have those standard bubble-packed envelopes and if I made one myself I wonder if our Post office has the right to 'feel' my envelope and reject it in the mail room. (asking at the counter feels silly because our post office are usually with long queues and manned by 'machines' who cant deal with anything out-of-the-ordinary :P)

I really feel we should exchange...its fun and necessary and for me to sleep well so will PM (or we'll be out-of-topic) you later :P
