Title: 5105 - Mammoth with Calve
Post by: CountBogro on October 24, 2011, 12:28:24
I got the entire Stone-age range for Birthday by my family. Conniefrere did a wonderfull job doing the reviews of the sets ... and to be honest - I've already thrown out the boxes as I didn't give myself any time to take pictures.
However, this is my favourite set from the theme  :-[ and as Conniefrere hasn't done this one yet ... I will steal it

Here it goes ...

This is the complete set:

There isn't any movement of the body possible; with the exception of the head. That can turn:

The trunks of the adults can swing from front to back (forgot to take pictures of that) and the mouths of both the adult and the calve can open:

Here's the entire herd (at the moment). I've included a hunter for size comparrison. I want to have 1-2 more sets so that I have a complete herd. According to a few internet sites, a typical herd contained between 3 to 50 adults. Probably all female as the male's were on their own. I paid 10 Euro's for them and that's about right - imho.
(The lighter coloured version is from the Mamoth-rock set)

Well CountB, I think you did a wonderfull job at this review and thank you for mentioning my reviews ;). I made some photographs of this set too, but thought maybe someone else wants to make the review. Fortunately you did. Did you make pictures of the mammoth rock? Otherwise I will post them!

Coolll! They have one of these wooly mammoths preserved quite well in a cave near Fairbanks, Alaska, and it is is good shape because it froze very quickly. It will be cool to see the PM version one of these years. I am gonna put him in a cave, too! Pgal

Thanks for the review. I so wish Geobra made these with the same "playability" as the elephants, lots of moving body parts.

Thanks for the review... I love this theme and will be buying lots of each set.
I too wished the mammoth had more articulation.

I know what you mean and I am likeminded.

However ... seeing my youngest son (aged 6) playing with it, I am not too sure. The Mammoths are quite large. With no articulation in the legs it's easier for him to put them down without them collapsing. Or he can swing them about just holding a leg or so. The fact that they are stiff makes them more easily to play with.

However, without all the articulation they are less interesting for us collectors...

I like to complicate my children's lives  :P IF they want to place it down I want them to work at setting all the legs "right" so he will pose in the desired position. I see it as working on their fine motor skills.

I just loooove this set ... I am really aching to get at least on other set! Perhaps two or three!
Would love to own a small herd.
