After the riproaring success of the Durer special from Nuremberg Museum, maybe PM should consider a Museum or artist theme. Maybe they will see how eager we collectors are to buy unique specials or small sets!
We wish they offered different ones at every major museum because folks love to take home something from a museum. If the set included something unique to that place, such as a small animal or pet that is found in that country, that would also be incredible.
Ideas for a small set from some of my favorite places include the:
Capital Museum of Beijing,
Hong Kong Museum of Art,
Shanghai Museum,
Museum of the Terracotta Army,
National Museum of Korea in Seoul,
National Archaeological Museum in Naples,
National Maritime Museum in Greenwich, and
National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City.
This would be a wonderful method for increasing name recognition of Playmobil, especially in Asia.
Anyone have suggestions for a Museum (or artistis) theme? Cheers, Pgal
-
yes that would be good !!! but do they want to ??
-
I don't know about how the details would work... But it seems to me that the way to approach this from Playmo's perspective would be to make the figures initially available at the museum... but not permanently (just for a special exhibit, like the Durer accompanying a special "one-time" Durer exhibition) then selling the left over figures... if any, via the PCC and then through the regular online services.
If they followed these guidelines, they would NEVER get stuck eating the cost. If the figures didn't pay for themselves at the museum or event itself, then they could increase the price for the PCC offering to make up the loss, and we would totally pay it to make sure they kept making them... you know... if they were good :)
-
Baron,
That sounds like a wonderful idea! Too bad they can't begin with the Rembrandt exhibition opening October 30th at NCMA in Raleigh!!! Folks often buy items from earlier exhibitions at a museum even though they missed that show.
And the PCC would be glad to help sell off any leftover sets if PM or the museum got stuck with them.
Nuremberg will be a test with the Durer figure...of course the fact that PM is based in DE will bias the test, but in a positive way at least we hope! Please keep your fingers crossed, Pgal

Hi,
I expect at the moment the thing is vice versa:
The museum wants to have a unique Playmobil figure.
They are starting a request to Playmobil, Playmobil makes an offer
and if both parties are willing this special will be produced.
Even every "normal" person can get their special Klicky, as far as I know the minimum ordering amount is 1000.....
schluss
-
only 1000 eh? hmm

Do tell us more...

Funny, I was thinking just that :P

this sounds like a great idea!
-
Great idea - love it!
-
mmm not sure.
again we are thinking of us and not the real "customer" Geobra is working for. :hmm: (and I mean toy shops)
Of course I think it would be cool to have these exclusives but not sure if they can make a theme out of it.
Why kids would buy a van gogh clicky? :)
-
since playmo dont have any ears at all... how would they even know it was him?

It seems that the best market for the museum sets would be adults who enjoy visiting museums and bringing home something special to remind them of their visit. These would not be sets aimed at children although children would be welcome to play with them in many homes.
Museums do attract a large number of educated adults who recognize the names of famous artists, etc. And most of them can afford to buy a 3-5Euro PM set if it is well made. We love museum gift shops because they tend to offer a large selection of well made, reasonably priced and artsy items that are not easily found.
And the idea of having the PCC buy up leftover sets is a real winner because we can always use the parts even if we don't want that particular figure. It would be great if they used the new figure type that comes apart easily so we could customize them without killing our fingers or breaking their necks.
Will be interesting to see how many Durers are sold during the current exhibition. Daniela (or someone else living near Nuremberg), can you inquire as to how sales are going the next time you at that Museum? Since most of the parts used in Durer were already being sold in other figures, it may not have been that expensive to offer his figure, Pgal

geobra has to change the way of seeing their customers , in every interviews etc.. i have seen they refer to childrens opinions and drawings for what they would like to be realesed as playmobil, don't get me wrong this is very correct but they should also consider adult's opinions ,because we are customers too ,and if crazy serious collectors we pay +++++++ if the products are woth it (adults have money children will buy if their parents allows it and probably not willing to pay much) i don't think they see collectors seriously ,and the pcc either :( let's hope the club will be a start !!!! :)

These are the wisest words I have ever seen from you Alex, bravo!
You are right.
Though I just meant that the way the things are now, that won't happen, and still I don't think collectors are the MAIN audience for PM.
So I don't think this worth a new whole theme called Museums (as the tiltel of the thread says)... It can be just as it is now ...exclusives but with the plus of the possibility of getting them through the PCC. ;)

Playmobil would be a good way to start teaching children about art. Everyone can enjoy art, even young children, so museums are not for adults only.
It would be nice to have a shop accessory set. Paints, easel, picture frames, sculpture (like the old bust from the piano set)
-
Enjoying your comments....I agree with what yall have said.
Tim's idea of an art series is intriguing because it applies to all ages, and that is the target market for art and museums. If you start a child in art museums at age 3 or 4, they most likely will grow into art as they mature. If you wait until they turn 18, it is much less likely that they will appreciate the art in museums unless they happen to become a serious artist.
Maybe a set of collectible figures of famous artists would be one way to get the ball rolling for products that museums could sell in their giftshops and online, Pgal ;)
-
Oooh, that would be REALLY cool!

what do you mean? that i always say stupidities? :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: perhaps you are right but it would be boring if we were serious all the time (http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/expressive/snooty.gif) (http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/expressive/snooty.gif) (http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/expressive/snooty.gif) (http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/expressive/snooty.gif) (http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/expressive/snooty.gif) (http://www.thesmilies.com/smilies/expressive/snooty.gif)

I'd suggest something completely different:
A collection of museum rooms that can be put together in one bigger set, and all of them using old playmobil items from discontinued themes and sets. That way it would be an actual playmobil museum, featuring the history of playmobil. :)
The medieval room could feature a stand displaying a nuremberg helmet, chest piece, old sword and nuremberg shield, maybe along with a flag and drum.
Same room could also feature equipment from the 90's, such as tower, lion, fleur de lis and swan shields and equipment.
Maybe a tapestry to the wall featuring an old diorama.
Other wings could feature western, victorian and pirate things from older sets.

Rhallus,
Your idea of a PM museum full of old PM items is a brilliant one! ;D ;D ;D
While many here would put it in an old style building, I would prefer it in a building that is very modern and open, like the Getty Center (www.getty.edu/) in Los Angeles. This could easily be done with Sys X.
And in the alternative, maybe they could offer an old style museum building for those preferring that look (like the Louvre).
Then we could fill each room with an old theme like they do at real life museums that have large enough collections to theme each room. The Egyptian collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC comes to mind and could easily be done with PM Egyptian pieces.
And they could still have rooms full of portraits maybe with different sizes of frames and stickers so that we could choose what kind of art to put on the walls. There is a room full of large oil paintings of Venice with its lovely canals and scenes from the 1500-1700 period at the Getty, and this could easily be copied with PM. I will try to add some photos of this room from my visit there last week.
It will fun to see the ideas of others for rooms in a museum using PM! Pgal
-
I totally agree - and I think that a modern building would be best. I actually think that there are hundreds of PM pieces that could be used in this set.
(Romans, Egyptians, Vikings...etc)
-
A number of us have done museum scenes in the past. It's a fun idea and would be very interesting to see what they would come up with.

I love it TIm!
-
Tim, that's cool!!!
-
Tim,
That is incredible! I adore the sculpture. Where do you find the white heads?
It is a magical photo that gives us many ideas of what a museum room could look like.
I would build a peaceful garden around my museum, too. With lots of outdoor sculpture like there is at one of my favorites, Storm King just north of NYC (www.stormkingartcenter.org).
Have you done other museum rooms? Thanks, Pgal
-
Tim, that is superb!
-
And out of the blue, a klicky museum. I love it!
-
I am not the first to do one, I know there have been a couple of really good ones for the big shows.
Here is the full thing. I had one floor for Viking era, one with dinosaurs, and the sculpture. There is a Bunnylady giving a tour for a group of piglet schoolchildren.
There are a few items on the dino floor that aren't Playmo but fit in well.
-
Brilliant!!! And the piglet school kids are some very nice touches

i love the first pic, Tim - great use of color figures/animals
-
Tim, Wow! Your museum is SOOOO COOOOL!!! Pgal
-
LOVE your museum Tim! Brilliant!
-
Wouldn't Geobra have to pay royalties to produce such figures?
I thought the production minimum was closer to 10,000 sets. If it was 1000 sets I am sure we could put together a special order if we could only decide on what to make. I say a translucent klicky and wholesale price should be 1/2 or less making it aprox. $1.50 each so I am good for at least 100 sets.
-
Raz,
By translucent, are you referring to the whitish figures Tim used in his museum or are do you mean a clear figure that one can see through? I like the ones he used as sculptures.
What would use your translucent figures for? Thanks, Pgal
-
I don't think a translucent (assuming that's like transparent) klicky would be very useful.. But I'd get a bunch too ;)
-
Someone was suggesting a while back that a transparent klicky with blue inner workings would be cool, so you can see how it looks inside. Was it Cachalote, I think? He was saying it would be a cool PCC gift, and I agree.
