Recently there has been quite a lot of discussion around playmo animals and i think bbs collection has inspired many of us to buy / focus on playmo animals . I wonder what are the rarest and the most / most impossibel to find playmo animal? Though not an expert as others here my guess would be the old style polar bear with the black nose and eyes and the white owl ... ??? ??? ??? ??? look forward to see what all have to say and remind to all to post pictures if you have them to make the thread more exciting , sorry i cant my den is far away from me :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

You can get the white owl from DS. I think the red Nessie is quite rare, that or the daboo.
Best,
Arnaud
-
daboo? ???
-
You can get the white owl from DS.
I have bought both owls from UK DS, the brown owl cost £1.00 but the white owl was more expensive at £1.50.
Why is white plastic more expensive to produce than coloured?

The polar bear with the black nose is actually the newer version, but now the old version is apparently available again as a DS add on. So I wouldn't call either polar bear rare at all.
I'm sure Tim could fill in on some specific color variations that are very rare. But as to entire species or older molds of species that are rare, there are a few. The woodpecker http://www.animobil.info/text/3e258fc-1904.html, as we discussed a few days ago, is relatively rare, as compared to other kinds of birds. It is in several sets currently in production, though.
The wildebeest http://www.animobil.info/text/3e258fc-1187.html is somewhat rare also, being discontinued for many years now. It is seen on ebay regularly, so it is certainly not among the rarest playmobil items, but it is one of the rarer animals.
Falcons http://www.animobil.info/text/3e258fc-3112.html seem to have become harder to find lately also. A lot of them came in medieval sets, but I actually don't have one!
And then of course there is the mountain goat: http://www.animobil.info/text/3e258fc-1064.html which I think must be the rarest animal as far as the rarest mold.
But we must mention certain color variations.... the red nessie, as Arnaud said, and the white mouse, which I have three of thanks to Gis ;D. I'm sure Tim could fill in a lot more!

Why not just get the falcon and woodpecker from DS??
Talk about the birds...the Toucan cost 1.7 gbp.....
-
Yep, they're probably available on DS.
I forgot about the brown eagle! http://www.animobil.info/text/3e258fc-951.html I've been having trouble getting my hands on that guy.
-
I guess I've never really noticed the variety of animals Playmobil has produced. I love the mountain goat!
-
I think we should not refer to any animals that are available from DS as this means they are not rare at all , right ??? ??? ???
Aha !!! The wildbeest , also referred to as the 'Gnou' if i recall correctly , soooo bb this is for you what the nuremberg guards are for me , mystery solved !!! :sherlock:
Well i am still intrigued to read about other playmo animal rarities not available through the DS !!!
-
I really like the weird colored baby dinos/dragons - apparently sold at the funpark..
And of course the mysterious purple cowie...
-
what is a daboo? I checked wikipedia and it doesn't exist.... ???
-
In my opinion the rarest from regular release sets would be:
Mountie's Horse
(http://www.animobil.info/wit-icons/mountie.jpg)
yellow and black beagles
(http://www.animobil.info/wit-icons/beagleyellow.jpg)
orange color tiger
(http://www.animobil.info/wit-icons/colortigerorng.jpg)
mountain goat
(http://www.animobil.info/wit-icons/mountngoat.jpg)
white shark
(http://www.animobil.info/wit-icons/sharkwhite.jpg)
-
Some of the earlier color variations from the game sets are hard to find - the colored frogs are the oldest and the farther away in time we get the fewer seem to be out there.

Really rare would be some of the FunPark animals that were only available in Germany at the FunPark. Of the ones not in production right now the glow in the dark lobster is one of the best.
You can check my FunPark Animals page (http://www.animobil.info/text/3e258fc-1898.html) to see others. I don't know if I've missed any over the years or not. I have full assortments of animals from 2005 and 2011 plus the dino babies. If anyone knows of others I would like to know (and get them).
The white mouse from the Speyer Exhibition would also be considered pretty rare

and then there are a few animals that don't exist. Ones that were never released by the company but snuck out of production somehow, or that haven't been confirmed as released in any way.Tahra's Purple Cow  would be a good example.
Photo thanks to Tahra

-
Love it! Great creation, tahra!
Not a creation - bought her on ebay.... But could never figure out why is there a purple cowie. At the time, mails to milka (everyone's first guess) got no reply.
I'd love to get my hands on the white shark, white mouse and funpark animals.. The others I THINK we have.. (not sure about that yellowish dog)
-
I heard about the purple cow, that it was made without permission during a night shift. The workers have still made a joke. Somehow the cows have left the factory. Geobra wasn't really amused when they discovered these "originals". They tried to find the workers but they haven't found them.
Greetings
Vauban

Hadn't hear that story :)
Wonder if it's true.. and where are the others? I haven't checked ebay for years, but I was a VERY COMPULSIVE "checker" at the time, and I only saw mine (was a Buy It Now)... and I don't think I ever saw another...

Best,
Arnaud
PS: for those of you who haven't seen the movie, see it! It's great! There's a talking dog!!!

-
The name of the bird is Kevin, though it is female. But in english they called it a snipe. That is the greatest animated movie ever!
-
Yes. They kept Kevin in French too, but they called the species the daboo. And Kevin is a girl, here, too! Love this movie!

Really , I shocked i have never heard of it !!!!
-
It was a great movie.. The opening sequence is wonderful - and very sad - wasn't expecting that, actually.
-
the beginning of that movie is depressing! ???
-
The beginning was my favorite part. It was cry-your-eyes-out sad, very poignant. But i loooove sad movies. Lately my favorite movies are ones where the main character dies at the end. I like movies that make me cry.

Ahem...
Of course all of the old color animals are hard to get in good shape these days
