Hey!
I've been working on these all summer. I'll introduce those great knights one by one, so you can enjoy them fully...

Wonderful Arnaud  :wow:
Can I ask where you get the inspiration for the different heraldry? Does each one have a meaning?
Elaine (http://www.anchoredbygrace.com/smileys/mgqueen.gif)
-
Today's knight:
Frédéric de Moers.
@Elaine: I get inspiration from books about Heraldry and the Middle Ages in General, and wiki, of course. For those Knights of the Golden Fleece, there's actually a late Middle Age book called "Grand Armorial Èquestre de la Toison d'Or", where I got all the heraldry. I don't own the book but they have it in Paris' Great Library and...they scanned every page and put them online! Can you believe that?? Here's the link again: http://expositions.bnf.fr/livres/armorial/index.htm
Heraldry doesn't necessarily have a meaning, but it's personal to a person (ususally a knight) or a family. There are so many I just choose the nicest to my own eyes and first I make the shield, then the horse coat, and then the torso for the knight. Sometimes, I make flags too but, unfortunately, PM don't provide flags in every color you can get the horse coats! So some have their flag to be carried by a herald, and some don't. For the Knights of the Golden Fleece, I didn't make any flag. There are too many knights and I'm lazy!
A.
-
Antoine de Vergy looks great!!! Same goes for Frédéric de Moers.
Well done Arnaud!!
-
I just had a vision of 50 custom knights in the citadel of Krull....
-
Magnificent Knights Arnaud! :o
I think Sir Frédéric de Moers is my favorite so far! :wow:
But they are all so great! :)
THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYO UTHANKYOU THANK YOU! :o
THANK YOU FOR THE LINK!!!! :wow:
-
Gilbert de Lannoy
Love the design but not a big fan of the colors. The combination of parts work very well though (like the scarce green feather), Any relevance to the golden chain he is wearing? (They all have chains so I'll just ask once)
Jean de Créquy
Great design, the middle red part on the caparison works very well here. The colors are really good together.
Antoine de Vergy
The red of the transfer is slightly less bright then the rest. Not really a fan of the chainmail in the middle of the caparison.
Frédéric de Moers
The Heraldry on this is stunning and the design for the caparison is really great. The neckpiece on the knight is actually my favorite one.
Looking forward to the coming contributions!
-
Thanks all for the comments!
@WoT: ain't that a grat link indeed?
@Giorginetto: wonderful sight, I agree!
@Gis: I'm glad you're back online!
Gilbert de Lannoy

Yeah, it's better you just ask once, Gis, beause they'll all have one: it's the Golden Fleece on their necklace. It was made of gold and should the bearer loose it, he had to replace it on his own funds.
That feather is now available from DS again, item umber: 30 24 1460
Antoine de Vergy
The red of the transfer is slightly less bright then the rest. Not really a fan of the chainmail in the middle of the caparison.
It's not varnished yet, the colours will match better after two coats of varnish. The transfers are matt, whereas the horse coats are glossy. For the chainmail, it's a matter of proportions; some designs needed to be repeated once at the front of the horse coat and once at the back, and they couldn't meet in the middle, it just didn't look good. So I used the chain mail to separate them, on some others, like Créquy, I just used a different shade of cloth.
Frédéric de Moers
The neckpiece on the knight is actually my favorite one.
I'm making a note of that! ;)
-
Ooops! Yesterday was very busy, so I couldn't upload. Here are todays' knight and yesterday's.
This is Jean de Villiers.
And this is the Duke of Mainz.
Arnaud
-
Ok... explain Jean's shield please?
(SOMEONE had to ask. ;D )
-
Well, Tahra, I'm not sure about the meaning of this one. Though I know it's called a dextrochère when there's a right hand and a "sénestrochère" when there's a left hand. But that's about all I know.
Best,
Arnaud
-
Maybe it's an appeal to the gods for virility? :P
Uhm.
On this page (http://l.histoire.en.kit.pagesperso-orange.fr/moyen%20age/toison_dor/toison_dor_1.htm) (number 15) they look like... crosses... maybe.. (smallish pic)
I think I like your version better!
-
I absolutely cannot believe I only just found this topic - these knights are incredible, Arnaud!
Can't wait to see some more!   :wow: :wow: :wow:
-

They're "hermines" on this page. That's not the correct coat of arms. I used the original book to draw my designs and there are no hermines on this one.
I understand the appeal for virility, not only the stiff arm, but the black thingies look like spzs too!

You're the one and only coat-of-arms-master, Arnaud :o :o :o :o :o Amongst all creations, I like the duke of Brabant best. The sabel/gold color combination is real eyecandy

WOW WOW WOW!!!!!
-
Jacques looks real royal with his, bordeaux ??? red color, and necklace! Oh  it's the necklace of the golden fleece!
I just googled Jacques and I noticed that in pictures of him he is displayed in the same colors as you do, but besides he has a helmet with a hart between curled horns. The helmet of the dragon knights might do the trick :) (Don't want to be nosy, but thought mention it)
-
@conniefrere: I know! Actually, it's a torn, bleeding heart held by two hands ( not horns). But that would be part two of the plan. Making a different crest for every knight… much, much work!
Best,
Arnaud

-
I just love that Duke from Brabant, its where I am from. :)
Still a shame that we traded in our black flag with the gold lion for a picknick cloth. (white and red square pattern)
Modern flags are ugly. :(

These two latest ones are by far the most superior craftsmanship and design you done so far, me thinks!!! Especially the second one!!
-
Magnificent custom works of art, Arnaud! Every time I thought I saw a favorite, another one appeared that changed my mind, so all I can say now is they're all fantastic! Well done! :wow:
-
Very nice creations here and on your Knights! thread.
-
Every time I think your work can't get better Arnaud, you surpass yourself. Bravo!
-
aw... they just keep getting better and better. You are expanding to the legs with tougher patterns.
-
Atelier Cowabunga should be for Geobra what AMG is for Mercedes, Gemballa for Porsche etc , i think ( i am verious serious proposing this) that Geobra should harness than creativity etc ... and i hope they do.. the most recent knight they have created look so peculiar like having a bucket on their heads with horns and being sprayed with graffiti colours, all wrong if you ask me, atelier cowabunga could help them make some far better lookings knights etc !!!!!!
-
the most recent knight they have created look so peculiar like having a bucket on their heads with horns and being sprayed with graffiti colours
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: My mind works quite visually so I actually see this scene know!
But seriously, you do have a point there. And Arnouds creations are wonderfull!
-
Thanks all!
@George: you're making me blush! :-[ :-[ :-[
But, yeah, I'd love it if they asked me for a design. I think they need a French touch i designing their knights.
Today, If the weather's with me, I'll make a few more pics...
Best,
Arnaud

Thanks all!

But George! You are single handedly buying half their product!
If you stop, it could cause disaster!

The Duke of Burgundy!!  The Bishop of Reims!!
Too bad they were all slaughtered by the Flemish at Courtrai (Kortrijk) in 1302! ;D
Darn, I'm in "silly-mode" again... ::)
-
Well, Capitaine François de Hadoque, these knights date from 1342 at least. So they weren't there. Maybe ancestors…
Best,
A.

sent you a PM sire about the Krull's generals horses /caparisons etc ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I was just teasing, Arnaud ;)
It didn't happen often that we were able to beat the French, so we like to brag about it... :-[
Your knights indeed look rather late-14th till mid-15th century.
-
You've created a wealth of superb customs here, Arnaud, that put most of Playmobil's original creations to shame. My favorite is the Duke of Burgundy. :wow: :wow: :wow:
-
Hey! Thanks for all your comments!
Tonight, only one. King René d'Anjou on his horse. I'm also preparing a black version of this one.

-
Nice! Have you thought about using a gold leaf product available in hobby stores to make the plastic gold look like real gold?
-
I never thought of that,no. That'd make an expensive klicky, wouldn't it?
A.
-
I was never in favour of bishop-knights, but I like the patter on this one!!
-
I second Panos, the bishop does look awesome now. 8-)
-
Anjou and the Bishop look great!
-
Hi folks!
I've added two more Knights:
First is the count of Flanders, he's still waiting for his shield and the lion crest will be painted black eventually.

Then we have the King of Castille:

And finally, a more complete version of the Duke of Brabant, with full body outfit:

That's it for tonight!

-
Awesome, as always, mate!
But I do have a question - from what exactly do you take your inspiration for these knights? Are your knights some of those who were part of the actual Order of the Golden Fleece?
-
Hi!
Yes, those are historical, at least I'm doing my best so that they look like in this book: http://expositions.bnf.fr/livres/armorial/
I do make some little arrangements like using designs I already have when needed, etc...
Check the link, it's awesome!
Best,
Arnaud
-
Ah, I see! That looks like a fantastic book to use as a reference for such an endeavour! And that website contains several great resources. Thanks a lot for sharing it! :)
-
Awesome link !!! How many in total knights of the golden fleece now sir Arnaud ???? ;D ;D ;D
-
Thirty eight, George! Two more not printed yet...
-
Being from Brabant, I absolutely love the Duke of Brabant. :)
I still can't understand why we traded in that awesome black flag with the yellow lion for a red and white checkered flag that looks like a pick-nick cloth. :(
-
Oh yeah! That last one is absolutely superb!!!
-
great work - particularly love the Bishop, the King of Castille and the Baron of Brabant. Excellent detail 8-)
-
Beautiful as always Arnaud. Interesting to see the continuing development of your style & techniques.
-
Thanks folks!
@Tim: interestingly enough, I've decided to expand my transfers to the classical legs with boots and the new armored legs (with knee-high armor). Out in a few days! >:(
-
Excellent as always Arnaud!!
I'm anxious to watch you new project!!

I'm very excited to see these! I really like those new legs! ;)
-
Very impressive! They keep getting better and better!
-
Hey!
I've been working on these all summer. I'll introduce those great knights one by one, so you can enjoy them fully...
This is Gilbert de Lannoy.

Arnaud
Ooops, blurry picture. I need to clean my camera lens.
its Amazing how he looks all tough with his helmet down, then when its up he looks totally harmless with that smile.
-
Hi-ho!
Here's a new one! I just realised I didn't print his necklace! Too bad I'll print another torso transfer and replace this one. Still; he's Guillaume de Vienne:

And this is the finished Earl of Flanders, with crest and shield:

XOXO,
Arnaud

Love the redish print on the first one.. And I think he looks fine without the necklace!
-
Love the redish print on the first one.. And I think he looks fine without the necklace!
Yeah, but. You can't say he's a member of the order if he doesn't have his necklace!!!
-
They are both excellent, as always! ;)
-
Excellent!!!
-
Yeah, but. You can't say he's a member of the order if he doesn't have his necklace!!!
Oh. I know nothing of orders, I'm afraid.. :-[
(but I do know he's gorgeous! ;D )
-
Very nice!
-
Extremely 8-) 8-) knights again!
And nice to see the Earl of Flanders! ;) Though I'd give him a brown or red beard, the figure looks just a bit too yellow with the blond beard, and a redish beard would match with the red bits of the lion and the caparison.
-
Hey guys! Happy Easter!

Hey buddies!
Just a quick update. I modified some of the clothes transfers, added some for the back of the figures, and a new caparison for the king of France.
Enjoy!

The House of STARK!!! You are quite the master Sir!
-
Very impressive - as usual!
-
Wow, a great bunch again! 8-)
The cardinal-knight looks a bit akward/amusing :P
I see there are some Flemish looking ones too ;) The yellow one with black lions, and horned helmet; is the headpiece on his horse customized? I don't remember having seen such one before...

Thanks guys!
@Erwin: it's not a new part. Was in the 4912 blister and several other sets.
