Title: Picture of my Animals
Post by: Tiermann on September 28, 2011, 14:21:40
A picture of my animal collection - all of them. It's something I've wanted to do for a while but didn't have a space big enough. I'm not entirely happy with it but lighting was a little difficult. I may tray again another time.

edited - for those who looked earlier it was still size limited. This link should let you in to the 4000 pixel wide version.

Will have to study it better... but I'm jealous!

That is awesome, Tim!!! Cool to see them all together! I've made a picture of all mine before, but it wasn't nearly as neat as yours, and not nearly as impressive, so I never shared it. And of course your collection is a lot more complete than mine! (duh) Thanks for showing us!

A giant oyster? Comes with one of the ghost pirates, with a cannon inside  :hmm:
Title: Re: Picture of my Animals
Post by: Tiermann on September 28, 2011, 19:15:22
Yes that's the big clam  from the ghost pirates

I am missing the darker brown color of the first type of bear. That's the only vintage regular animal I am missing that I know of.
In current ones I don't have the red, yellow, or blue koalas yet - is that game being sent by Playmobil USA yet?
I am not counting animals that are currently in Europe but not here in the US yet, there are a number of the most recent releases I don't have though I do have some.

The rest are all older and current 123 animals. Those have always been toward the bottom of my search list until recently.
123 current: brown rabbit, black and white cow, horse on a base, chicken on a base, female lion, dolphin, dog black with white spots, dog tan with brown spots, dog brown with white/tan spots
123 not current: fish in blue, green, and bright yellow

I plan on getting some of the current ones next time I order sets, or maybe some day from a DS order.

So that's 16 I am missing form US released sets. In Euro ones there are 4 of the horses yet, the blue-footed booby and the hammerhead shark, maybe a starfish from one of the pirate sets - does anyone have the part number of the starfish in 5138? Hard to tell colors sometimes. I am missing the new chicks and duckling from the farm series and don't have the new stone age animals like the mammoths yet. I think the pegasus are out now also and I don't have those of course. So that's another 14. I haven't added the 2012 catalog ones yet.
So of ones out right now I am missing a total of about 30 from about 729. So there should be just under 700 animals in the photo. If someone wants to actually count feel free to, I didn't. :D I am sure that's one of everything I have though.

That's probably because it's just one of each. I'm sure if he showed every single animal, including duplicates, it would be mind-boggling! :(o):

I've edited the link in my first post - it wasn't letting you into the actual large size - about 4000 pixels wide. The new link should get you there for a closer look.

A lot of the animals are small - 18 songbirds don't take up much space for instance. The horses take up the most territory as a group
Also it probably looks smaller than it is. It actually took up about 7 feet wide by 5 feet deep or so. I set it up on my new living room floor before I brought the furniture back in. I might be able to fit them on a 4 by 8 foot table if I was careful about it.

Very very impressive, Tim! :o :o :o

What a varied animal kingdom Playmobil has given us

Are there any obvious animals/creatures that Playmobil hasn't yet produced?

Thanks for the larger pic...

Aren't the color kittens and the birdies twice there? Or they're different?

Edit: forget it - SOMEONE needs glasses. Sitting and standing. Right. It's my old age showing!

The most obvious missing animals to me are the turkey from farm, and from wild animals the bat, anteater, llama, walrus, a large antelope like a kudu or oryx, and maybe the armadillo.

Thanks everyone.
I know the koalas are coming eventually. They were still making them in Germany but have stopped giving them away there. They should put the ghost pirate on sale cheap and move on to the koalas.

Very impressive!

Now you just need to build a Playmobil sized Noah Arc that holds two of each animal.  :)

Otherwise good luck fitting all of them into the official playmobil Arc (which I assume you have? :))

As mentioned earlier, this is a jaw-dropping collection, not only for the collection but the time and patience to dig all of them out of their storage and set it up.  Just out of curiosity, where did you start, and how long did it take?

I started in the back with the dinos and the dragons then moved forward and to the left of the picture then went back and did the mammals from back to front. I did it spread out over a couple of days, maybe 2 hours or less total. My animals are pretty well organized so there wasn't too much running back and forth to the website to make sure I hadn't missed anything.
As it happens I found 2 variations of old animals as I was putting them away so that brings my total up to 736 - I counted for the video version and there are 734 different ones in the picture. That is counting different poses and colors even if they are grouped in a single part number like the rabbits.

Impressive!!  :glasses:

I see in front the mice come in several colours too, I only have the grey ones from the pirates' sets... I think I see some brown ones... which set(s) do they come in?

If you don't want to wait for the Koala-free gift set to become available, I've some spare ones... If you want, I could send you one, or just the blue, red and yellow koala's.
Title: Re: Picture of my Animals
Post by: bonniebeth on November 09, 2011, 22:02:38
I don't think there was ever a brown mouse, but there was a light gray and a dark gray. And then of course there are the very rare white mice that were never released in any set.

Yes, Bonnie is right on that.
Thanks for the comments guys.

Erwin, thanks for the offer. I've learned to be patient when I know it's something that will be released here. I have the biggest % of animals in my collection now than I've ever had before.

Patience is of course a virtue, personally I should have some more of it.  ;)

So it is a darkgrey mouse... I'll check playmodb to know where that species breeds  ;D
If the white mice were never released in a set, where do they come from? Production mistakes?  ???

Tim,
Congrats on your own Animal Kingdom! The display is stunning....too bad you have to live in your living room!

I wish we could more easily obtain all of the animals through US DS. Many of the ones I've purchased off eBay are in pretty awful, chewed up shape. Guess we could say that they have been fighting for their lives in the jungle, Pgal

I don't know about the darker mice.. But the white ones breed like crazy in envelopes while in transit. Just sayin'.   :P

(could use some more patience too)
