Title: Your favorite box design...
Post by: PlaymoMan on September 21, 2011, 23:31:20
Okay, here we go - didn't manage to fix it, although I gave it my best shot.
I managed to dig out these two pics from my photo album...

90's box..

Current box...

Sorry, I don't have any pics of boxes from the 80's and 70's, although you guys know what they look like, right?

Please tell my you're favorite box design!
Thanks!

My favourites are the old boxes with dioramas at the back.

New boxes like the top agents theme and the new pirates are cool too.... but in other kind of way.
I miss the great dioramas! Those were the best propaganda ever! When I saw them as a child I wanted all the sets in them... pretty catchy it was!

mid 80's and 90's are by far the best

the current boxes are ridicously big, unnattractive (many of them don't even do justice to the sets) and not as creative as before (too much photo shop)

Wow, thanks for the great pics, Panos and Alex! :thanks:
I have to agree with most of the people here - the old box dioramas are the best!

What are your least favorite box designs?
I think the ones that were made in the mid 90's were terrible... :P

Those are some great box dioramas, Panos!

Is it just me, though, or is the ground of the moon tinfoil?

The old mediaval dioramas Sir wolf posted are awesome !!!!!!!

The one with the drunk klikcy fallen of his chair is hilarious. Superb dioramas and box designs, so much more creative and funky than todays dull pictures .... sooooo much better and the artists liberty to use some modern era items ( see my thread on the briefcase ) is simply superb and reflects what a kid would do also. You just cant create such lovely dioramas with sets as spies and all these latest themes/sets.

I love how the feature item is in focus while the other items in the background are not....gives it a sense of realism and depth.  well composed.  I collect as many pirate pics as possible.  One of my sets even came with a purely aesthetic picture story pamphlet which seemed to be designed to give a kid an idea of how to play with the pirate set....  kinda wierd concept, but I treasure the playmobil pre-packaged photo story :)

I need to scan it soon

The old diorama's where definatly beautifull, but I can see why they changed it, so that its more informative about the content.

Some sets do seem to have far more or far less in them than you might expect.
A good compromise would be to put a nice diorama on the back of the manual, to get the best of both worlds. Good info before you buy the set, and something nice to look at once you aquired it. Aside from the playmobil in the box of course.  :)

it's not only the diorama that made old boxes special ,they were much more aesthetic and intresting.... the 90's box type that had index on the back instead of the dioramas was nice also nothing compared like the current ugly boxes....anyways most new sets are for the garbage themselves so that's the type of boxes they deserve i believe  8-)  they need to change EVERYTHING !!!!  :yup: :yup: :yup: :yup: :yup:
