Title: A Look into an 80's DS Catalogue
Post by: flatcat on September 04, 2011, 09:53:27
I know someone (I can't remember who :-[) shared some pics of a similar catalogue a few years ago, but I have just recieved this one from ebay and wan to share it's contents with you all

I have taken a photograph of every page in order, and hopefully you can make out each item.

There may be a few ideas we can get for the year after next's DS catalogue ;)

This particular catalogue is dated 1988 (I can't remeber when DS started :-[)

Damo :)

Ooh, I didn't know that suit of armor was ever available as an add-on! :D Train cars and cannons and fort extentions, Oh my! ;D And it reminded me that I would love to see that smaller black bear come back, as well as the gnus/wildebeests.

Thanks for sharing, some wonderfull add-ons in that catalogue!  :)

Btw, the text on the back of the front cover (in the blue square) mentiones "To all Playmobil-fans, yet in 1987 a Playmobil-fanclub will be established"....  Signed by Gisela Kupiak, who today still is the head of Playmobil Germany's customer-service.

Thanks for sharing.

It would be interesting to see what the currency conversion would be.

Not only a straight conversion but also one adjusted for inflation.

:) and i am sure horst brandstatter also "endorsed" the club back then.
:) after a visit to antex's playmobil page - http://www.antexandina.com.ar/linea.php?linea=8 - i am sure you will all agree with me.
:!: we don't need a collectors club - all we need is a club de aficionados de playmobil/antex. :yup: i am sure it will easier to deal with antex than with geobra.

Anted does make some very nice sets. Old western buildings, fort, fishing boat, houseboat.

Maybe with contact with them they would ship / sell directly for less. With input they might improve production standards (Tonguello has mentioned they are poorer quality).

Too bad they don't have Steck castle and olde house moulds. (or do they, but do not use them?!)

Many thanks for sharing the pictures! !  8-)  8-) I suddenly remember those pages. I once bought pirate & knights accessories back in 1989 in a large store in Köln, they sold small DS bags loose. Great memories!

Thank Damo, that's cool to see.

Do you think the bears are the really dark brown or the regular brown? I've only seen the really dark ones from the UK lately so was thinking maybe they were Playpeople, but it could be that they were DS instead.

lighting sometimes makes some items look differently but they turn our to be the same
maybe that's the case with this bear?

I have a bear from the 80's that is that really dark brown colour; my dancing bear set (although I don't know what brown you are comparing this to)

Damo :)

The older bears are darker... there is an old zoo set with the darker bears too... and the old dancing bear of course... the 90's dancing bear is much lighter than any of the previous bears...

I don't actually have any of that style of bear, and i like it better than the big grizzly/kodiak bears. :-\ It drives me crazy that they produced at some point the grizzly/kodiak bear in black, as neither of those bears is ever black. 8}

Now black bears, on the other hand, are often brown, spotted, or even yellowish white, so to have these smaller bears which are shaped more like black bears produced in brown makes sense enough I guess.

Thanks for this, Damo.

It's interesting to see that some of these items were still in the DS catalogue until recently, for example the farm water tanker, while you could still buy the old style pirate cannon from DS parts say 5 years ago and maybe still can.
