Title: To drive or not to drive - Playmobil RC...
Post by: PlaymoMan on September 01, 2011, 21:53:09
My friend is into Hobby-Grade RC cars, namely Traxxas. Many of my Playmobil sets that I've bought have included an RC option - is it worth it? I don't actually have the RC remotes...

I would say it's nice if you have kids and will let them play with the RCed vehicles.
If not, I fear the coolness factor will wear off quickly ::).

I'm with PP here... I have an RC firetruck and it was so coll at first... but other projects have takes priority, and the fire truck was jus sitting there... then one day I thought I have to take to batteries out... dont want those fluids to destroy the toy... so no its just sits there... But I do have the urge from time to time to take her out for a spin  :P

I once run down some marble stairs by m istake, at high speed so it landed quite a few stairs below a pricey RC car and it broke into pieces . I advice extreme caution with such vehicles ...  :sherlock:

Chris and I used to go out and race RC cars around in the "parking lot" behind our house, and spend hours at it. Haven't done it in a while since it's been so hot, but I would like to get some rc modules and have RC playmobil cars. Best of both worlds!

I need to check into which vehicles are RC-compatible and which are not...

Is there a list of all of them somewhere? Cause that would be really cool :) and probably force me to get the RC unit as well...

I seem to remember something like that here from a couple of months ago.... later today I'll try and see if I can find it. I don't have time now.

Don't forget to get the camera too! That is soo cool!
When I was a kid, I always dreamt of driving a PlaymoCar... :)
Now I can! :)

But back to topic: I would say, the PM RCs suck compared against a "real" RC car. So, it is cool to have, esp. for kids as they can play with it, but the engines etc. are not the best you can get...

best,
socrates

Usually the big and newer vehicles can accept the RC module.

PM RC sucks TERRIBLY compared to a "real" RC vehicle in all regards - speed, toughness, range, battery life, etc.
That's why I think it is only a nice option if you have children.

Has anyone tried out the newest RC module? http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4856&cgid= It's supposed to be somewhat improved, and at $55 it better be good to be worth that amount of money!

Bonniebeth, I got the new RC module when I ordered the Top Agents last year . It's my first RC module, so I can't really compare it, but it drives really well, especially on the Robo-Gangster SUV. The only problem is that on the bus, it takes quite a bit of space to make turns, so you can't drive it inside  :-\.

Thanks, Ace! Taking room to turn is ok with me once i get the feel for it (I have an RC car that doesn't turn left very well) because we have a huge area at the back of our driveway for parking five cars, so lots of room for racing!

"Shorter" cars will do better than longer ones when it comes to turns.

So the 4821 does better than the 4820. These are the two cars that we have "upgraded" to RC.

They drive quite well and the RC control can be managed by a 5-year-old.

You need 4x 1,5-AA-Mignon batteries for the car and 1x 9V-block for the remote control you hold.

We have got two precursor sets of the one that came out with the agents, but it's said to have undergone very little changes since then.

Doing some much needed tidying up, I've just come across the instruction book for the 4320 RC unit.  Here's a link to a list on playmoDB I've madeup:

http://www.playmodb.org/cgi-bin/your_set_list.pl?setlist=3213%0D%0A3214%0D%0A3181%0D%0A3169%0D%0A3263%0D%0A7932%0D%0A3265%0D%0A4421%0D%0A4483%0D%0A4419%0D%0A4078%0D%0A4087%0D%0A4820%0D%0A4821%0D%0A7426

The list in the instructions didn't include the new fire engines, so I've added those.  Also, 7426 wasn't on, but as this seems to be a DS version of 3265, I've added it also.

And 5008:

can be added too.

I think I'll lto take a video of it... I have so many things to take care of right now (including a surprice photostory... so watch the photostory board  ;D) so It will be a little while until I deal with the rc roboganster truck... which looks like a trasnformer or a gijoe vehicle...  ::)

I shall be watchign this RC thread with great interest. I do wonder has anyone tried to trnasplant the RC modules/ parts into an older non RC vehicle , i wonder if such an interesting project would work. It would be awesome on say the playmospace rover etc etc  ;) ;) ;)

Time to go playmospace perhaps for me .....

There are two women in the series, I think. One has a white and orange color scheme and the other is black and green and comes with the SUV  :).

Nope! non of the vehicles do, but we did notice in the funpark that the new 4856 rc module is updated for wider and stronger transmition  ;)

By transmission you're referring to signal broadcast or the mechanics of the motor is better?

signal broadcast.

We have about 10 RC cars and they are all so much fun. One of my favorites is the big rig with 2 or 3 trailers. The boys and I love playing chase with them all. We use the fire SUV for the police and the object of the game it to pin you opponent down or just flip them over by side swiping them  ;D

I was getting them used on auction for about $10 each RC unit. We have the new ones and the old ones. The new version takes a lot less batteries for the controller unit and MacGayver can explain the technical differences. I think the old one takes 8 AA's and the new one is one 9volt . Both the old and new motor units only take 4 AA's and I suggest getting lots of rechargeables

We just got the RC unit into the new Agents SUV and are waiting for the batteries to charge. I also found the camera for $40 new that I am desperately trying to save for Christmas but I really want to play with it and so do the boys.

I say "to drive" is the fun way to go
