Title: Bridgeburners II
Post by: Wolf Knight on August 17, 2011, 14:37:02
Seventh squad...

A very important info I forgot to give you in the thread where I introduced the first Bridgeburners, is that, the first book of the series Malazan book of the Fallen describes how only 35 of the original 1,400 Bridgeburners survived from a major battle... these characters, as well as the ones in the first thread, are some of those 35...

Sergent Antsy and Spindle who is a mage as well as a sapper...

And the tough ladies of the sqaud: Detoran, Picker and Blend
(http://i1176.photobucket.com/albums/x335/Baldthar/Bridgeburners/DSC03063.jpg)

More Bridgeburners to follow.... ;)

I see what you've been doing yesterday!  ;D
They look great! Eventhough I know nothing about the book, their personality comes through and besides, they are really nice customs.

Thanks Gaston! Again, I tried to give them whatever attributes the books show them to have... I have more of them ready, but want to finish the whole group, and these last ones are not so unique characters.

Don't remind me... How many years will we have to wait for the next one?  (and so long for season 2 - I'm still trying to get over the fact that they changed Asha's name. The Others take them  >:( )

About Malazan... Is it over? Or is it an ongoing series? Does it end well? And the most important question... how is it like with animal violence?

I LOVE your customs (I'm a sucker for brownish colors, I admit...  )

I've been told that the tenth book is the final book of the series... the fourth book is 1194 pages long, I paused my reading on book five, even though I have books six and seven. I've also been told that one of the three latests books (not sure if its 8,9, or 10) is 1500 pages long  :o But for the fans, I doubt it will ever end. The author is an archaelogist/antrhopolgist and has mixed a lot or real life cultural and historical aspects with fantasy elements, but the Bridgeburners are certainly disbanded before the end of the series... although a different fate awaits them  ;D

As for animals... Well, this world is so far from anything you know in fantasy novels... there are animals that can be manipulated by man, or other races (and by ither races dond expect dwarves, elves or any mainstream fantasy races) and there are animals that can manipulate man  ;)

Erikson finished the 10th book so the original series is done. I expect he will continue to write in the world he and Ian Cameron Esslemont created.

Good books should be HUGE. Well, not very handy to carry about, but that's why I always pick the smallest paperbacks ;)

I mean violence with animals - hurting animals.. That is a dealbreaker for me. Not my idea of fun. George Martin goes WAY over my limit sometimes.... but that one after it is started it's too late. I jump over those horrid scenes when rereading. Though they are unfortunately quite present in my mind. Not the kind of thing you forget, I'm afraid. That is what I was asking...

The only incidents I recall are the slayings of two of the Hounds of Shadow (huge mean beasts with shoulders level to a man's chest) their souls imprisoned and later released to be reborn again.... as I said, no simple events in these series...

Thanks! Maybe I shall add it to my (ever growing) list ;)

Then I'll come back to see if the playmoversions are as I imagined them :)  But I love them - I think the brownish colors are great on klickies (ok, and most everything else...)

Nice customs Panos. Like Tahra said, it really makes a change to see brown figures. Not too
Heraldic, though, perfect for fantasy customs.

Best,
Arnaud

What is the difference between the "book" and the "novel"?
Title: Re: Bridgeburners II

What is the difference between the "book" and the "novel"?

Well, in general the terms are interchangeable... a book is a volume of fictional or non-fictional work whose pages are printed and bound...however, this is not the case anymore, as there are paperbacks that can be characterised as books, and books that are novels.

A novel is a book-length work of fiction, or if you prefer, the term ''novel'' is mostly use to indicate a work of fiction. It tells a story and has characters, plot, begginging, middle and end.

In the case of the Malazan books, the main ten books ''tell the story'', a fictional history if you like, events occured. Yes they can be described as novels too but they are the main plot of the whole story, whereas the so far eight novels, describe fictional events that happened in the books, or described events and reasons for leading to the events in the books, in more detail. Or tell the story of certain characters from the books. Does that make sense?

Short Version:

For the Malazan Series, the "books" tell the main story and the "novels" give you additional details.

Oops too.  ;D I didn't notice it either.  :-[

So it isn't a chihuahua, Bonnie, but a heavy chestplate that is the cause for her eyes-position.  ;D

Thank you Justin! I have to stress again that this project would not be doable without Arnaud Cowabounga's tranfers!!!

I have created more Bridgeburners, I must take a pic of the rest...
