Sadly these boxes are empty as the seller has lost them :( I have the green cattle truck, however, that I can put in this box ;D

Oh, and this train is missing:

The big station is complete apart from missing two roof edging tile sections (most annoyingly one is a corner piece!) and a couple small accessories:

Crossing, complete:

I will try and get some pics of the train later, as it is in pieces atm being cleaned, as some kid has dropped their soft mints over it and they have melted into all the crevaces :0

There is no track, as that is with the missing carriages over at the seller's friends house, so if she gets them back I will go and pick them up.

Fantastic collection Damo - how do you do it?
Was it an ebay find or advertised locally?
I presume knowing you, you got it for an incredibly cheap bargain price too  ;D

So your fears that it would be a wasted journey were unfounded, Damo.  It's a great selection you've got there, but I'm puzzled how it's possible to lose three trucks - the owner must have been very careless or very short sighted.
Title: Re: Massive Train Haul
Post by: flatcat on August 08, 2011, 12:37:45
Well the owner had taken the collection, with the track etc round to a friends house so all the kids could play with it in the garden, and in an apparent 'Rush', the owner (seller) had left half of it including the track behind.

This was apparently 2 years ago, and she hasn't heard from this friend since then (I think they had fallen out), and this friend has still got this Ladies £200 light from habitat, but whether this friend has still got my track and the lamp after two years I don't know :(

Anyway those 'friends' are away at the moment on holiday, so my Lady is tagging along with the woman who's feeding their cats while the'r away and doing a planned raid on their garden shed! :evilplan:

I'm not really expecting anything else, as I paid £100 for this lot, with the bonus of finding anything else.

Just had a nasty suprise when I removed the boiler from the 4052!

(http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/6876/wheelsandbmx032.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/843/wheelsandbmx032.jpg/)

In the outside there is sticky mint, in the funnel there is red lipstic, and on the inside there seems to be this runny yellow, almost bannanery smelling stuff :0

I have now removed all the electronics and completely dismantled the train and it is in soaking in warm soapy water

Hopefully I can get some pics later!

The dried on stuff on the large metal weight inside the boiler was proving hard to remove, so I have used an abrasive disk fitted to my Minitool to sand it all of and it looks like new! 8-)

Just out of curiosity (not that I would ever think of buying something like that, NEVER...;D), around how much would one have to spend to have a "functional" modern train set?

When you say 'modern' do you mean the newer RC trains with the plastic track?

If so you would expect to pay £80-£100 (sorry I don't know what that is in your currency) for a top dollar VGC complete set.

Working engines on their own wil set you back about £30.

If you want the old style Electric/LGB business like this then it will set you back a fair bit more :)

Damo, I was thinking about something like the #4010 (specially) or #4020/#4018. On eBay the pickings are VERY slim, so I don't have a good idea of how much they would cost. I would rather have some original PM trains to be able to load them with klickies and accessories, but of course in the future some other cargo cars would be interesting - but for now, just the basics.

I bought a 4018 in very good condition and in a box for £75 last October off ebay.uk.

I got my 4011 a couple of years ago from ebay all in it's box for £65

But if you are wanting one, I'd get one asap as they are slowly going up in price due to demand and the fact that Playmobil aren't making any more trains.

Well, you're probably right, since prices can only go up :-\. The problem is that I need a new PM theme right now as much as I need a new hole in my head - I wanted to "finish" the rescue theme first, and only then think about new stuff.

Awesome haul! I must admit I'm a bit jealous at your 4052. A shame really that some uneducated kids were allowed to trash it like that! Glad that some things could be salvaged!

If you want to build a train with wagons, I recommend you to buy the 4010, so you can build a goods train or a passenger train (with 4124-wagons). The 4016 | 4018 | 4020 don't pull wagons, it's a railcar.

Ok, you can't buy the 4016 | 4018 | 4020 sets in shops.
But, if the train theme is discontinued... ...that is another story (and is no fact).
We don't know now, if there will come new train(s) in 2012.

Railcars or DMUs did pull vans on British Railways. I uses to get one in the moring to work that arrived each morning wit one behind it. This had to be removed by the station pilot before we could leave.

PROGRESS

The seller has now given me the phone number of her 'friend' that has my track.

Apparently it is true that they have fallen out, holding the Playmobil track and the £200 Habitat lamp ransome.

I'm thinking of phoning up and saying "I do believe you have something that belongs to me!"  Although her reaction is probably not going to be nice. If I am allowed round their I might have to take some heavies in the back of the car for if things turn nasty!

Joking aside, I am unsure whether I should be getting involved. Sure, I want to rescue the track (and possibly the rest of the trains/carriages) but would I be getting myself into mess?

The least she can say is no :-\

RESULT!

The train lady text me saying she had found a couple more things, so I went over today and she gave me these:

(http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8933/moggerhanger008.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/11/moggerhanger008.jpg/)

Loco from set 4000 (Missing funnel, black thing from top, 1 buffer) Mechanicals look in good order, but I haven't tested it yet.

4112 Tipper truck. All complete and in excellent order. Got the box for this with the last lot.

And an LGB open truck. 1 coupler missing, and generall a bit grubby with a few small damaged/broken.

Not bad for free! :D

I will find out soon if I will get the track as she is going round there
