Title: Playmo at Target
Post by: EmGee on August 05, 2011, 09:36:38
Hey all...
Yeah, I disappeared for a while... work/gallery openings/life/etc were keeping me from my Playmofriends
Anyway... a small selection of Playmobil have resurfaced at my local Target (Fort Lauderdale), after about 2 years of not carrying any at all... I was in a hurry, so I didn't get any numbers (and half of them were out of stock), but there was firemen/skateboarders/knights/pirates blisters, along with the garbage truck, ambulance, a rehash of a mini pirate set, a pirate ship and a ghost pirate ship. Next time I stop by I'll get all the info...
Oh, I've been working on and off on a suburban house custom... It's been wallpapered and carpeted :).... Now I just got to get my stuff together and find some time to furnish it... I might even do a little photo-story with it... as Lil' EmGee and Lil' JayBee go house-hunting. :)
Hope I can make it back here soon....
Bonnie... I have NOT forgotten about you... the package is sitting on my desk!  :'(

 Oh, it's ok! There's no rush. My princess knows someday her pince will come. :P (ok, I know he's a king, but it made a nice line.)

Yeah, I found playmobil at target, too, and forgot to say anything about it! Pretty much the same stuff you found, and at both targets in town, including the one that had no playmo for a while. We bought the recycling truck. great to see they have some blue boxes again.

It's great that Target seems to finally realize that Playmobil is a necessity in their stores  ;D. I haven't looked at the toys at Target since they dropped Playmobil several years ago, but on their website there are two sets listed. They are listed as Playmobil Fireman & Skateboard Blister Assortment and Playmobil Pirate & Fireman Blister Assortment. There are no set numbers  ???.

I looked at the website to see what you mean, Ace... that is a very strange way to list it. ??? Especially since there is a pic of two knights labeled "fireman and skateboard assortment." ??? You'd think they would list each blister individually. :hmm:

That's good news as Target is opening it's first 105 stores in Canuckistan in 2013.

Wow! That is good news because Target usually has high quality food at reasonable prices...I shop there for groceries at least twice a week and always come home with a bargain of some kind.

And they do have decent sales on just about everything if you wait long enough. Your daughters will love the toys, too! Now if they can just restock the PM!!!

We also like the fact that they donate 5% of what you spend there to the school of your choice...at least in the States. Many shcools have used this as a major fundraiser.

Canuckistan is a cute term...Hubby loved it, too, as he grew up there and went to McMaster.  Cheers, Pgal

I checked my local Target on Saturday and not a sniff of Playmobil on the shelves. The West Coast can lag, so it may appear eventually.

I've given up on Target almost entirely as a place to shop. They recently cut a line of Diecast cars (M2 Machines) that I was starting to collect, in order to fit in 6" more space for Disney's Pixar Cars. The loss of shelf space could be very damaging to the small manufacturer, and I felt that 24 feet by six feet of space for Disney's Cars was enough, but apparently not enough for Target.

No Playmobil at my Target, either.  We don't shop there as frequently as we used to.  They cut the size of their electronics/games department in the remodel to add a grocery department.  Well, really, they cut the size of most (if not all) of their departments and I didn't go to Target to buy groceries.   :(   Bring back the toys and the electronics!

I don't get the half aisle they have of the mini skate-boards or those kind of things.

Yea I went to target the other day and there was no playmo. I'm on the east coast.

M2 has a statement about that on their website.

Just checked one of the local Targets. No signs of it anywhere. The shelves look fairly set for Christmas. Is this going to be like a few years ago where only a couple of the Targets carried it?

Haven't found any yet. Anyone having luck finding them in the US stores?

I've been to 2 Targets in my area, and neither of them have any trace of Playmobil. I'ts too bad that they don't carry it, when it's becoming fairly popular in the US  :'(.

BonnieBeth, are you in the US?  I haven't seen any in the Chicago area at all.

Yes, I'm in Baton Rouge. One target had stopped carrying playmobil for a while, but now they both carry them, all US exclusives.

Did either of those stores do a big remodel to put in a grocery section?  The stores here stopped carrying Playmobil when they started selling groceries.  But, if your stores did the remodel and now they have Playmo again then perhaps there is hope for the rest of us.

Yes, we also lost all playmobil when the stores went for the food remodel. All departments were cut 25% to make room.

I really do hope they strike a deal or new deal with Geobra and start distribution in more stores than just Bonnies area, perhaps they know how much she spends  ;) I always waited for clearance and that does not help bottom lines

Did a check on the Target web site with one of the items listed. In the section of 'Find' it. Of the 35 some stores in the Chicago area as well as down state, it only showed a SuperTarget has having the item. All of the rest said 'out of stock."   As I understand it, last year the SuperTarget store also had PMB, but no one else. I'm afraid that this isn't going to be the big resupply that we hoped.

No, both of these stores were huge supertargets from the time they were built, and have always had a large grocery section. In fact that may be the difference, as jay said. particularly the one by me is a HUGE store. It's probably bigger than a super walmart. So they may carry more stock simply because of being so big. And BTW, I do grocery shop there quite frequently. The slightly higher prices are worth it for the quieter environment and better customer service than WM.

I really do hope they strike a deal or new deal with Geobra and start distribution in more stores than just Bonnies area, perhaps they know how much she spends  ;)

 Yep I'm sure it's all about me! ;D

Do they have crazy sales for pkaymobil during Thanksgiving? I remember lining up outside Bestbuy...in the days Playmobil to me was childish, before nostalgia came to hit me

Yes we have sale for just about any reason and for no reason what so ever. The only sale I ever line up for is a members only damaged gear/returns sale that happens 4 times a year and it is at REI (an outdoor gear store) I go the night before and sleep in the parking lot  ::)  always first in line  :loco:

I would love to find playmobil with such sales (90% off)  as I would be there days in advance, actually I would just have an employee camp out for me  :P

I've had good luck with the clearnace sales at TRU. I know I've gotten some PMB at 75% and possibly even 90%. Then....... there was the time that they were putting new merchandise out while stuff was on clearance sale......and they put the stickers on the wrong things.  I actually tried to tell them that the $5.00 wasn't supposed to be .49 cents, but they said that was how it was in the computer and they couldn't change it.   8}

Still no luck at finding PM at any target around here.

I doubt any of our area stores will be getting playmoibl again seeing as they are the smaller store size.

I heard of members getting things on clearance at TRU for .01¢

Ras,
That is so true because from my experience, the REI sales are the best! I chose my town partly because it was the site of the first NC store of REI. Maybe we could talk them into carrying the PM adventure and sports sets, pool and beach stuff, and campers and other outdoor sets. At least we would get a nice dividend check when they aren't on sale.

And their members buy a lot of gear for their children, so we know that the target markets shop in REI stores. Should we get the "committee" to add this to their list of ideas? Pgal ;D

You actually camp outside? Wow. That must be some sale. I guess I would camp outside for a really great playmobil sale! :yup:

Never thought of them carrying playmobil, a lot of the clients would be the same  ??? It would make sense but unfortunately our REI is next door to TRU

Silly isn't it? I have camped out for this sale many times and every time I get things very cheep. I would never pay full retail for $100 shoes but at $10 I take 1/2 dozen. The sale gets crazy with people shoving and grabbing as fast as they can.

If this was playmobil I would get all my friends in line to help me shovel it into shopping bags before anybody, even kids,  had a chance to get anything  >:D
