Welcome to the first day of the Elimination Rounds here at the Marketon Jousting Tournament

It’s another full house today and should be quite the show

It’s a highly skilled group of knights coming out of the Group Round  Vanidel, with a few surprises from what we expected going into the Tourney. Arngeir the Viking of Krull being here is a surprise.

Were you surprised by experienced knights like Sir Seamus Flynn not making it to this point Sir Edward?

Considering the strength of the field at the beginning of the Group Rounds there were bound to be some great knights left out of the playoffs.

And our first knight is out on the field. Here in the first match we have Sir Alexander of Korent

Off to an aggressive start both knights throw caution to the wind in an attempt for an unhorsing. They don’t succeed, but both end up with a solid body hit. That ties it right off at 2 points and means only one more point is needed to win.

Sir Alexander has played it a bit more carefully this run and kept his shield up more, while Gottgens seems to have concentrated on lancing.  Knight Josephus Gottgens only gets one point for a shield hit but by not being as cautious as he might he’s been hit with another body strike.

That makes the score 3 for Josephus Gottgens and 4 for Sir Alexander of Korent.

Sir Alexander wins and will move on to the next playoff round.

Oh! Sir Paul looked to be making a solid shield strike but the General got his lance inside Sir Paul’s shield and has unhorsed him.
The win goes to General Sir Agnar of Krull

The winners of today’s matches will be paired in bracket format, so Gnereal Sir Agnar will move on to a match tomorrow with Sir Alexander of Korent.

For our third match of the day we have local favorite Sir Sigismund of Sweetwater

He’s getting quite the welcome from the crowd

Sir Sigismund will be competing against Sir Elric this match

It looks like it’s going to be a solid shield strike for both, but Sir Elric proves his shield skills with a clever pivot and Sir Sigismund just lances air.

1 Point Sir Elric

It doesn’t look like shield skill will save Sir Elric from being hit this run, Sir Sigismund is clearly not going to be fooled again. A shield hit for both.

Score Sir Elric 2, Sir Sigismund 1

Sir Elric’s shield is down a bit and Sir Sigismund takes full advantage of it, managing a nice body strike. It’s to no avail though, as Sir Elric shows he has lancing skills as well and manages a swing above Sir Sigismund’s shield to tap his helmet.
Two points for each. That gives Sir Elric 4 to Sir Sigismund’s 3 and advances Sir Elric to the next round.

up against one of the most travelled knights here, Sir Jaknoi of Gacim

He’s made it to tourneys all over the world in pursuit of Jousting Glory.

Jousting Glory – isn’t she one of the buxom traveling Ale-maids for Krull Ale?

Is she ever!

Score tied at 1

Looks like they’ve found each other’s measure, good shield work on both sides results in a miss for both. Still tied at 1

Looks like Sir Jaknoi had a trick or two left yet, a quick dip of his shield causes Lord Etir to just come up with air, while Sir Jaknoi gets a nice shield hit off of Lord Etir.

Score now 2 for Sir Jaknoi and 1 for Lord Etir

Ah, Sir Jaknoi’s made an error there, he got his shield too far forward and allowed Lord Etir to get a glancing blow off his arm. Sir Jaknoi kept the match alive though by managing a shield hit.

The score is tied again, this time at 3 each

Sir Jaknoi kept his shield back this time but Lord Etir got above it for a helmet strike. Another shield hit isn’t enough for Sir Jaknoi to keep the match alive this time.

Lord Etir Sayest wins the match 5 points to Sir Jaknoi’s 4 and will advance to the next round against Sir Elric.

The Groundsman and Zamboni are out on the field for a smooth down, so we will take a minute here to talk about the great refreshments here at Marketon Jousting Grounds.
They’re featuring
Krull Ale –If it tastes like Ale, it must be Krull!
and Jungle Juice – It’s Fruit!

Two of the most popular and well known beverages in the Jousting World.

They sure are great Vanidel!

Yes they are Sir Edward!

Two experienced competitors here

A quick move to flick his lance above Sir Adler’s shield pays off for Sir Lawrence and he manages a shoulder tap. Sir Adler got a shield strike off of Sir Lawrence.

Score Sir Lawrence 2, Sir Adler 1

They had some real speed going there, Sir Lawrence’s horse lost his head feather.

That can happen in the heavier play, a lot of that fancy work is really more for parading than jousting.

No lance flicks this run, just a solid pair of shield strikes.

That’s not going to be enough for Sir Adler though. Sir Lawrence wins the match with 3 to Sir Adler’s 2 and will move on to the second round of playoffs.

The next match features Lord Alderran of Avelina. After a bad fall the first day, and complications from it and a head strike two days ago, he recovered and unhorsed in one run yesterday. He looks in fine shape today.

Up against him is a competitor new to the tournament circuit, but one who’s definitely picked up some fans. Alban de Fleury

Not surprisingly he seems to be especially popular among the Flowerland contingent at the joust.

De Fleury is getting off to a good start with a solid shield hit. It looks like Lord Alderran was a bit wide there and came up with a miss.

One point de Fleury

Lord Alderran does better this run and manages a shield strike even though de Fleury made every effort to avoid it. De Fleury’s own lance ran a bit high and he had a miss.

Score tied at 1

De  Fleury managed a nice farthingale shield pivot there and it’s won the match for him. De Fleury scores one for a shield hit and Lord Alderran has a miss making the match score 4 to 3.

Alban de Fleury moves on to the next round against Sir Lawrence of Cashtown

Baron Blackthorn has let his shield slip too low, and that’s all that it takes for Sir Barry to get in a head strike. With the Baron missing as well, the score is 3 to 1 and Sir Barry has secured the final spot in tomorrow’s playoff round against Arngeir the Viking from Krull.

Very exciting elimination matches !!!! Fleury is doing very well indeed and seems unstoppable so far  .... Very pleased to see General Sir Agnar has gone back to victories and that Arngeir the Viking , surely one of the biggest udnerdogs of this tournament has also gone through both with such  spectacular unhorsings of their very good competitors !!!!
Regardless of that happens next they will both receive a heroes welcome back home with lots of Ale and roasted meat  for their very good performance in this very hard and challenging tournament where the jousting standards are indeed very high !!!!!!

Tim, bravo for the superb pictures once again and for keeping this tourmanent so exciting and so well presented Sire, bravo once again !!!!

Excellent turn out!!! I see Krull has two winners... could they end up jousting each other in the end?  :o

There is still a very  long way to the final ...... They have both done very well so far and it doesnt matter what happens next ....

Both are very determined to win , General Air Agnar has vowed to do his best and win and dedicate his victory to his recently departed wife and Arngeir the Viking has always dreamed from a very young age whn he was a squire to participate in jousting and become a Knight , this title will most certainly help the vikings of Krull gain a stronger position within Krull and will result in extra resources for his people, something he wishes to do . Should he win , King Iseroth will name him a Sir, though rumors are becuase of his great performance he will do regardless of the result .... In that case the Etiquette Ladies  of the Royal Court of Krull will have a jard job to train him to behave as a Knight off the jousting/battle field !!!

Regardless of what happens next there will be a big Ale and Roast feast at Krull when both champions return !!!! ( and a related photostory of course !!)
