Well, I've finally started working on some customs to sell in my zoo gift shop. ;D Here's a preview, some of the ones I've done so far, and I'll probably update this thread as I do more animal-themed customs. These two chairs are done by hand with a fine-tip sharpee, the first is giraffe print and the second leopard print.

I ordered several fans in a parts order to decorate in various ways, this one is done with some stickers I had on hand. I'll shop for some more stickers this week.

And some more hand-drawn animal prints, tiger print and leopard print baseball caps.

I'm not entirely pleased with this one, but it'll be fine tucked on a shelf somewhere. ;)

That's it for now, hope you like them!

I really like the hats and the leapord chair. All good ideas. Look forward to seeing more of your gift shop items.
-
What great ideas! Can't wait to see the completed gift shop, one of these days.
Question: Is that a full size chair, or a child size? I think a child size would be an excellent addition.
Thanks for sharing.
-
Those two are full size. I was considering doing some child size ones, but I'm still debating, because I only have a few, from the school set, and I may need them for the school...It does seem like it would be a good idea, though. I'm also going to spray one white and then draw in zebra stripes.

oh good ,you have an artistic nature bonnie (http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Others/others-262.gif) (http://www.mydisplayimage.com/aim/premium/mona_lisa.gif) very well done :)
-

I love the little fishies!
Damo :)

Thanks, everybody! There's more coming. ;D

  I love the chairs! the printing is really good bb!
What's a sharpie? a marker? :-[
-
Thanks, Gaston! Yes sharpie is a brand of permanent markers. http://www.sharpie.com/GlobalLanding.aspx

I think they're gorgeous... and very well painted. I admire your steady hand.
However, it seems an odd choice for the zoo shop... I mean, who's gonna buy a full scale chair at the zoo?
Reminds me of a VIP Bon Jovi package, where you could take.... the theater CHAIR home... ::) ???
Unless it's not for sale, but part of the zoo - it'd be PERFECT for the zoo cafe or something like that!
-
 Gift shops actually have tacky stuff like this in them, though! i always wonder who would actually buy one (in real life).

I don't think it's tacky at all... just not very... "buyable" in that setting ;)
-
Yeah, it does seem a little hard to carry out, I guess. :P
-
Hey come on, nothing says fun at the zoo like a day of lugging around a full sized chair. Bonus, if you get tired you've always got somewhere to sit. ;D
-
oh that is so beautiful, Bonnie! - the printed on chairs is something that would never had occurred to me
-
Thanks Luis!
Ok, here's the next round. First a couple of vases or pots:

Some more hats... not my best work. I need to practice the zebra print more.
A couple more fans.... the fish are stickers, the butterflies are drawn on.

This is my first peacock feather, I'm going to have several of them for sale in the gift shop. I modeled the colors after a playmobil peacock, rather than real peacock colors.

Now, this is my favorite thing I've done so far: Snow leopard print items! ;D

And a canteen with the name of my zoo, and some more snow leopard print.

the snow leopard cap and the feather are great bb!
the zebra print is pretty good too :)
-
The peacock feather is exceptional Bonnie!!! All the little customs are wonderful!!! Its amazing what a little skill and improvisation can do!!
-
Thanks guys! ;D
-
I like them all too :)
-
love them all!
-
With a range of gifts like that, Bonnie, the shop should be a great source of income for the zoo.
-
Greta work Bonnie. I particularly like the leopard chair and the snow leopard hat. There was a great snow leopard at the Nürnberg zoo when I was there, got some decent photos.
-
Ooh, I can't wait to see the gift shop when it is all done! I really love the fans
-
Thank you everybody! Glad you like them. :) Thanks to a generous gift from Joe (basilsdad) I have the system X parts I need for it, so I will finish it soon, hopefully!
@ Tim: :picsplz:
-
good idea , i especially like the leopard motiv .
-
Been working on some more items for the shop. I'm getting lots of practice with the zebra print! Eventually, only the child chairs will be in the gift shop, and the regular size chairs will be moving to the zoo restaurant. I need a LOT more of this style of chair though, the adult ones I mean. I'll see if I can get them from DS. If anyone has some they want to sell, I'm interested! I'll take any color I can get.

On to snow leopard prints next. ;D

Oh these are lovely, the restaurant will look so great with all those chairs. Reminds me of a Rainforest Cafe!!!
-
Thanks everyone!
ohhh thats fantastic bb.

ryan :blackhair:
I believe Gis was the one who asked about that first. Thank you, though. :)
-
bb: Your zoo piece designs are just terrific! The patterns are first class. Love your eye for design!
Your gift shop is going to be lovely and so inviting with all of these items. Sorry I only have a few children's school chairs, too. There are some in the children's bedroom sets for one or two of the houses if I remember correctly. I have tried ordering all kinds of modern chairs during the past six months and have had little luck with US DS. It seems they don't carry many chairs, and I need them for my sidewalk cafe at the boutique shopping mall.
Has anyone had much luck ordering modern chairs anywhere? Pgal
-
Wonderful rocking zebra, some great shop additions
-
Absolutely magnutifull !!! :wow: :wow: :wow:
-
Thank you pgal, tim, and conniefrere!
-
Those are incredible, Bonnie! :o :o :o
The detail is first class! :wow: :wow: :wow:
Is your restaurant going to have chairs with all different animal prints on them? You could do the tables as well, and then mix and match 8-)
Damo :)
-
Thanks, Damo! Yeah, that's what I was thinking -- mix and match. Each table will have no two chairs alike around it. And I have another plan in mind for the tables. ;D I'm eager to get to work on the restaurant; I have some exciting plans for it!
-
How many different animal prints are there in the world? - but more to the point, how many can you replicate onto a small piece of plastic by hand!
Damo :)
-
That is an interesting question, and actually I'm looking for suggestions on this. So far, I have done tiger, white tiger, leopard/jaguar (hard to tell the difference on that scale) snow leopard, zebra, and giraffe. Can anyone think of any others? I have seen real zoos do stuff like reptile skin or elephant skin, which would e almost impossible to do by hand. I've also seen feather patterns, like from a scarlet macaw, or a peacock. I could try on the peacock pattern, as I have already hand drawn that pattern on a feather, imitating playmobil peacocks rather than the real ones. So I could try translating it onto a chair. It will be very challenging, though. The macaw will be easier.
-
Some of the fish patterns like the clown fish maybe, and the blue stripes off the marlin. The spotty pattern off the Iguana, black and white cow spots, maybe some diamond pattern like snakeskin?
-
ooh, those are really good suggestions, Tim! I'm going to start experimenting on paper to see what I can draw free-hand. Thanks!
-
i love the zebra printings on the chairs but the horses are just too original!
-
Thanks! ;D i've been really excited over the rocking horse! I might do one of the old style rocking horses sometime.
