Title: The new Union Jack in 5139
Post by: flatcat on June 22, 2011, 11:00:54
Check out the flag in the new 5139 Pirates set:

http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=5139&cgid=Piraten (http://www.playmobil.de/on/demandware.store/Sites-DE-Site/de_DE/Product-Show?pid=5139&cgid=Piraten)

I thought, hey, is that meant to be the Union Jack/Flag? Because it is missing a red line ???

Then I looked on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag#History (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag#History)

oh I love Playmobil

Damo :)

Yep, there's always something new to learn. I like to know how flags were created and what the mean.... thanks Damo, there's a lot there that I didn't know.  ;D

Well-spotted, Damo.  Playmobil detail is so often spot on.

I wonder how many smart Alecs will say the flag's wrong?

you are right wolf knight.  :)
and it's also amazing how can they be at the same time (on other sets) so very little acurate.  8}
it's a little bit like dr. jekill and mr. hide.  :hmm:
playmobil has (at lest) 2 opposite "faces".

I'm very much looking forward to this flag! :yippee:

Playmobil often gets things quite right while at other times getting things quite wrong.  It's strange, to say the least.

Yes, but not from these angles. I guess the 360°-view for this set is now available too and this are screen-shots?

I had a look with the 360°-view on the official website this afternoon.
The klicky looked great and has a beautifull uniform-print on the front.

BUT:
I've noticed by rotating the image that... he is carrying a long pistol in a sideholster like the police-figures fom the Modern-theme!!
In other words: a holster fixed to the body on his right side!  :hissyfit: :hissyfit:  By doing this they messed up such a nice figure!!

Which Redcoat ever carried a sideholster for pistols?!  :wall:

Really? :o Oh that stinks!!! They are usually so good on historical accuracy... why would they do that? ???

they had pistols then didn't they?  ??? it's not a modern pistol like the police ones i guess  :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

It is a longpistol accurate for the pirates' era, but they were never carried in a holster on the side like a cowboy does.
The holster also is probably not the same one as from a police-klicky, but the clip to hold the holster is not attached to a removable belt, but is fixed to the klicky itself like on a police-klicky, which is the bad thing here.  :(

Pistols yes Alex. But redcoats of that era (officers only) would have carried the pistol tucked into a belt not in a holster.

hmmm.... anyways .. it's just a klicky ,you can always replace that shirt with an another  ;)

Or Playmobil could do it right in the first place so we don't have to sacrifice a second klicky to get one good one...

It's just a klicky?  Seriously? On this board?  ::)

@ Hadoque & team, where is this klicky supposed to put his sword when not in use? That's two problems with the figure to balance the new wig.

well that's a small detail ,there are others and others things more important  that they are doing bad , i can't see this pistol case on his shirt  :lens: i don't think it annoys me

But it's totally inaccurate! They would have worn their pistols tucked into the front of their belt, not in a holster on the side. It's not authentic at all.

Your base of argument is fallacious. Just because Playmobil frequently make mistakes in their accuracy does not mean we shouldn't call them on inaccuracies that bother us.

We dislike this inaccuracy because it is totally avoidable, and just on play-terms, it's impossible for this guy to hold his arm at a reasonable angle due to the length of the gun barrel, so it doesn't make for a good figure.

:hmm: maybe you are forgetting this set biggest inaccuracy - redcoats are sailing the ship instead of sailors.
;) they did a lot of things on board - http://britishmarines.blogspot.com/p/history.html - but sailing was never one of them.

Here's the pic of the back of the box from the official website...
The officer's uniform is soo nice...
He would be suitable for lots of customizing, weren't it for that holster ::)

The legs from the other Redcoat in this set are the ones with kneetrousers and shoes, they come fully in white here.
I don't find them very suitable for a (lower-ranking) redcoat either, but they are very good for use on/customizing of blue-uniformed English naval officers!

On a side note, some back-box images aren't available yet (pirates' island) though the 360°-view is. But I've found out the contents (f.e.numbers of included accessories) anyway by slightly moving the mouse over the image...

I've come to the conclusion all new pirates' sets don't include that many weapons:
* the black (nowadays darkgrey) classic longpistol only comes in about 3 sets, and allways there is just 1 in each set.
http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-09-5440

* Not taking into account the here in January released superset 4007 & blister 4127, the classic pirates' sword is no longer included in any of the new sets , apart for Island 5134 ... where it comes in a blue(!) colour  8} , probably like the one in ghostpirates' set 4803.
http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-09-5650
http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-29-5630

Oh, and the 5134-island should contain... a golden pistol.

That side-holster thing must be one of the stupidest decisions EVER. It was bad enough already on the current knight special. HWY? HWY? HWYYYYY?

That's really a shame about the holster, as the rest of the klicky looks magnificent. :'(
