Yes, it's brass (metal).
The old rails (made by LGB; 1980-1997) had to be made of metal because they had to conduct electricity.

I have the old Western Locomotive, but all my rails are the RC variety. It'll just look pretty somewhere...

The old rails looked a lot better... but I never got any trains back then. My first was the RC oldtimer.. then I got the 1st XMas trains and the Express, both RC on ebay. Right after I got the express, playmobil did a gorgeous yellow one. Bah.  :wall:

I also hunted down a few western wagons, plus the grafitti wagon and a pretty cow spotted one from a weird brand.

Of course, I have no idea where I'll EVER find the space to put it all together :(  I remember the RC ones were big hits with my cat, back in the day.

i just came back from outside where i layed down all my rails. the hole layout was 42 meters of rails. pics look not very good because of the late sun...maybe i do another layout tomorrow... our garden is not in a linear slope and every tiny little minihill made a bit of a problem. i will maybe go for a much smaller set up when playing with the kids outside...the best thing were my 1,20 meter straight rails - in 1 minute you make a lot of meters of perfect track...

Loco is short for locomotive, in other words, a train. Or is it specifically the train's engine? I'm not sure, actually.

Title: Re: My Train Collection - Part 1
Post by: bonniebeth on June 03, 2011, 22:05:33
You're thinking of "logo."

All that space is because of all the room it takes for my name, avatar pic, titles and such on the side, plus it looks more noticeable because I have no signature line at the moment, but I'm about to change that. ;)

But we are off topic here, sorry George!

That's because I wrote more. If I write just one line, the post will have more empty space under it, because of how much space my name, title, picture, caption, etc. on the side takes up. Plus I've now added a signature.

I hope you get it (the loco of schluss).

Then the whining here will end...
(sorry, it was a joke, it was a joke!)

No, I have two 4052 locos. It's a very nice loco(motive)!
One is black and red (like the pictures on page 1 here) and the other is in national railway colors (= Länderbahnfarben; before the DRG = Deutsche Reichsbahn Gesellschaft, ca. 1925) in black and light grey-blue with gold parts and boiler rings...

Pictures come, when it's finished (labeling in black/gold and a sound decoder MX 695 LV from Zimo, Austria [KLICK!] (http://www.zimo.at/web2010/documents/MX695.pdf), smoke generator with fan/ventilator from USA Trains,...)

Me too !!! tyhere is another nice one for sale but its missing one flap at the front, comes with a few extras though, not a bad deal i guess and i am sure i can find the flap one day ... but i prefer the boxed one ....  ;) ;) ;) ;)

Don't buy this one!! I can't recommend to buy a 4052 with only one smoke deflector (plate). You are looking for that (in Germany; in Greece it's harder I think) for many years without finding one. You'll get annoyed!!!
Buy a complete one. It's much better.

I have no box, but with that I can live very good. If one of my locos has no smoke deflector (plate) or doors between the tender and the loco or no coal flap (???) or no roof etc., that would be a »problem« for me, cause I see everytime, what's not finished (if I find none).
Years ago it would be no problem, if a piece is lost (my first 4052 had no coal flap & no seat, but I found both some weeks later... But today it's another situation...

Playmobil don't repair old playmobil trains.

motorblock = 2 axles, 4 wheels, motor,... and the black box around.

You can click off the motor block and buy (for ~20,- €) another loco or motor block alone and click this on the loco.
The motor blocks are all the same (for transformer).

And there are motor blocks for RC (are also all the same). A little more expensive.

But I have only some motors which don't work (and I bought them »used«, they were not broken here).

What's possible to be defective:
• the wheels loose their chromium plating => you need new (axles &) wheels.
• the motor could be defective => you need a new motor/motor block.
• the gears on the axles could be abraded => you need new axles (& wheels).
• the wipers could be flat => you need new wipers (e.g. of Piko or used LGB)

For details of the motor blocks see my web site. For the old trains go to the bottom of the page marked background and for the R.C. go to hints and tips page.
