My family began collecting Playmobil 6 months ago, and I recently found this forum. I build modern homes and boutique stores filled with people and lots of furnishings.
While rearing two sons, we were inundated with male toys, and I decided it is time for things that we women enjoy. Luckily my husband likes building, too.
The scale of Playmobil is more attractive than the smaller Lego scale I am used to. And it is easier to spray paint the PM roofs and windows with pastel colors.
Looking forward to seeing how others furnish and expand their PM houses. Cheers! :)

Hello from a neighbor! ;)
Hi! We are in Cary. Do you know of any PM groups in the area?
Do you go to any PM conventions? It seems that there are a lot more shows in Europe.
Do you any place to trade or buy used PM in the area?
Glad someone else does this around here!
We have gone to Lego shows, but no PM ones. Thanks! ;D

There are ideas about having an East Coast Playmobil meeting in North Carolina, that you may want to check out! :woohoo:

Yes, talks about this have just begun, but it's possible there will be a meeting this fall. ;D

A get together in NC this fall would be wonderful! Holler when you need some ideas and help, especially if you decide to hold it in the Raleigh area. Cheers!!! woohoohoo!

It seems to me that the ideal places to have Playmobil conferences would be at their theme parks. They already own the space, haves security and clean it, and have stores there so we can buy more Playmobil. And admission is very cheap if it is still just a dollar.
The Florida park is well located just off I-95; we hope to visit it in July on a business trip nearby. I will scope it out for meeting and exhibition space. Their website says they do birthday parties and have some indoor space and a Lechuza store.
This could be a win win situation for all because admission is low, and we would not have to put on a conference all by ourselves, which is a big pain in the you know what. I used to be in that business in Alaska, and a conference can eat up your entire life.
We attend some Lego conventions and have gained experience from participating in those shows. At the last one I did a seminar on building Lego ladies. It would be fun having some of us friends talk about building a specific kind of PM. I could volunteer to do a garden themed talk.
Fall could be a great time to draw adults who want to get out of the cold...maybe early November or even Thanksgiving weekend since that is a long one. Hotel rates in FL tend to go up around Christmas and then again in Feb. for the spring season.
Does anyone know if they have they had a conference at a PM theme park anywhere, and if it went well? Has anyone asked them to hold one?
In order to give folks on the West Coast a chance to do the same, how about one out there, too, since most of us would have to drive there to transport our displays.
This could make it a fun outing for adults and families, and drive up sales of toys. At the Lego shows, they sell a ton of sets to registered adult collectors at 25-50% off in their nearby stores.
And it would be fun to attend just to see the variety of intricate displays even if you did not exhibit your own work.
Anyway y'all know a lot more about this than I, so let the fun begin!

I don't know if anyone has ever talked about doing a conference with seminars and such, we've been thinking more along the lines of a small exhibition, with some dioramas. The reason we are thinking NC is that the person interested in organizing it lives there. There are a couple of members in that areas that I would really hate to miss it who might not be able to go if it was in Florida. Here's the thread where we first started discussing it: http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=8016.0 And here's the poll as to who would be able to attend in North Carolina. http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=8019.0 Maybe we should continue the discussion in that poll topic.

Thanks for the links to those topics. I was looking for them with no luck. A show in NC would also be fine with me!

Hi Elaine!
Thanks for the greeting!
I have noticed a few of your kind posts in the last week or so while browsing the older posts. I have Scottish blood on both sides...MacLeod, Kelly, and Cargile, and have visited Scotland twice. Hope to return again, too, as hubby has never been there.
What are your favorite themes? I am into modern houses and neighborhoods.
Take care, Pgal

HI Playmogal!!!
A HUGE welcome from here in the sunny UK!!!!
You sound like you have a plan:)))
I also have a builder husband who comes in great help when trying to extend.
I'm yet to get the courage to begin painting though-Ive only just starting cutting and that was traumatic enough lol!!
Best wishes
Issyx
-
Issyx,
Thanks! So what have you cut so far, and what are you making? Any pictures? I have not yet cut anything, but hubby will do it for me when I decide to build something. He offered to cut a 5302 roof so I could combine two of them, but one 5302 is large enough for me because I do not want to have to take everything apart to store it, and don't want to have to buy so many rooms of furniture.
With just three houses, modern, suburban and 5302, I can share a reasonable number of furnished room kits between the houses. But if I enlarge the houses too much, I have to buy more to fill them. And there are not many room kits sets to choose from that I like enough to buy. It was easier with Lego to build many different kinds of furniture and change the look through the color and/or style of bricks.
It would be helpful if PM had something like System X for building furniture so we could customize it more easily. It also would be great to have the master bedroom sets available in at least 4 different color schemes, and the same for the other rooms. We also need some variation in curtain color, size and materials. I would love to have some cloth curtain options as I don't sew. These are simple changes that could make the houses much more life like.
Guess I'll have to start a new thread for this!
Good luck with your customs, Pgal
