This is stunning, absolutely stunning, the detail in your vignettes, the photography, the balance of your layout, everything, and yes, it was fun to view the photos with your suggested soundtrack. Can hardly wait to see your additions.

BTW, there's a more joyful song from the DEAD CAN DANCE you could play for a medieval party. It's called "Saltarelo"
Hope you can all access it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcmpBCXOgVI

Skywalker your photography is so crisp and colorful. You really capture whatever theme you've got going. As someone mentioned earlier, very much like the old box art. :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:
I imagine Eulenburg takes up a bit of room too eh?
-
el jefe : thx ! yes i have heard that before ;D which is the best compliment for me. i so much love the old box art pics and catalogues . as a kid i had a lot of playmo. but i remember the steck houses were just out of reach and everybody wanted to have them. the only chance to get one of these was at christmas but then most of my friends and me went for the pirate ship or some vehicles. i think i bought one steck house at a flea market and it was not complete. it was one of my favourite toys. maybe i just watched the catalogue sites a bit to often  the combination of "real" stones or water and landscape + playmo is the best for me. as i have a company for film / animation these sets are a bit like training. if you have the chance to see the making of the lord of the rings ( 6 hours / comes with the extended box ) you know what i am talking about.
the table where all this is set up is about 11square meters + lightning. the backdrop pic is about 6 meter long and saves so much time - no more photoshop ( just slightly touches ). for the pics it is very easy to get good results when you have good light - best way : ( if you don´t want to spend money for it ) go outside...and never use a flashlight....
cheers !
i was asked to produce these backgrounds now for other people and if there is interest ( i will do a western background soon ) please PM me . they can be 1 meter or up to 20 meter long...my version is 61 cm high there is a possibility to get these 1 meter high but this is expensive...
-
This is awesome!

are you a photographer rene? :hmm: :hmm: or it's your hobby ? among playmobil offcourse ? ;D
-
celeste : Thank you !
playmo : no - photos are my hobby but i have a company that does digital motion design and special effects for film. i do film sometimes but my main work is retouching the filmed material or do special effects / motion graphics on the computer.
-
These pics are truly amazing, skywalker!! :omg: :omg: :omg: :omg: They're very much like the good old box art of the 70s/80s. Very nice and fine work!
-
Skywalker you have seen the mediaval set up i am working on. when complete i was plannign to put blue sky colour cheets all round to create a good background for pictures , please PM me for any alternatives and option you might be able to create for me . The boards upon which my steck set upo is are at approx 75cm high and the total lengh of the walls around the set up must be approx 20 metres ;) ;) ;)
-
george: i will PM you !

That really is a magnificent diorama you have created, Skywalker, and superbly photographed. I especially like the aerial views. I hope we'll see more of it.
:wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

Awesome work Rene. So many details and the layout really gives it a vibrant feel. There are a couple of questions I have to ask though.
WHat did you use for the street?
Where are all the women? I only spotted 2, one in the inn and one on the Balcony. shouldnt there be more out on the street and what not?
Thank you so much for sharing your pictures and your techniques it is really helping us all to beome betterin many aspects.
-
playmofire: Thank you. nice that you mention the aerials - i like them also very much
Gis : this first set of pics is more about the city. i will make more pics with more different characters soon. i will PM my contact for the pavement floor.

Beautiful Rene. I really like your city layout. It gives me the same mood as Nuremberg Altstadt and the castle did.
I wouldn't say never to a flashlight. I've found them very useful for some lighting effects, especially if you want cast shadows. I used one to good effect in my last Simral episode. But I agree the brighter the light the better off you are.
-
Tiermann : Thank you ! sure - flashlight is not a bad thing per se but when you make pics from a diorama or a little set up i think it is often just bright in the middle and dark at the outside.
-
I have split this topic by request of the author. Please everyone try not to go too much off-topic.
Thank you.
Rene (and everyone else) next time please use the "report to moderator" button and don't treat this sort of thing in the open forum. Thank you!
And btw I don't think the "cats conversation" or the smileys is a reason to spend less time with us here. We all value your contributions and expect to see a lot more, everyone here is a valued member, so please reconsider your words.
For Mod team, Gaston.

Thanx Gaston.

I just showed all these pictures to Aaron. He is a little mad I didn't share them before :-[ He absolutely loved your photos and collection. That is exactly what we aspire to have someday. Thank you so much for sharing. If you wouldn't mind, do you have a pic of what it all looks like displayed in the room? What I mean is, a picture of the room with the diorama so that we can see the scope of it all. I hope that makes sense! Thanks again. Cheers :**:
-
you have them on display ,or you made the city to take the pictures? :hmm: :hmm:
-
Playmoholics : sorry i don´t have a pic of the hole room. but i can tell you the size. it´s a table i made out of wood. the table is 2 x 6 meter long. i think the actullal size of the dio is 2m x 4m the backgound pic is 6 meters long and hangs around the table, less photoshop work now ! on this table i build my dioramas , make pics etc. it is the space above my studio which is now my playmo loft ;D as i have the studio in my home it´s a short way for me to go upstairs and do some "work" there. i also have two softboxes ( lights ) from my fotostudio hangin on the side because light is a very important thing when you want to make pics... i think it doesn´t make sense to see how much space i am using because you may have some different ideas or just not enough space for such a big diorama. if i wouldn´t have the chance to make a diorama up in the loft there wouldn´t be such big diorama possible for me. my wife would go bananas if i would build it in our house in this size ( there i just have my weekly playmoshrine and that´s ok ). anyway you should think of what do you want to have displayed ? or maybe you just reserve a certain space in your home and build a new set up anyway you like. i think the process of building a diorama is even more fun than to look at it day by day. i always see something i want to rearrange. for example i would like to have a diorama that is more like a medieval town , like eulenburg , but i would also like to do a medieval scene that is more in nature , so i would have to clear the table and build a new diorama. that is the most fun for me. so i change the set up on table every 2 weeks. for me it was more like : ok how much space do i have - then set up everything and what doesn´t fit on the table stays in the box...
but i already plan another table in the room which will be more than double from this tables size just for the upcoming western / train diorama...the madness never ends.... :**:
playmo1989: i hope that also answers your question
-
I envy you for that room Rene...
-
Me too! I'm dying to do a zoo diorama! :'(
-
Truly magnificent! This was the sort of dioramas that inspired my to be a PM collector. I just love looking at them.
Very much like the old box art but an awful lot better. I am in awe! and very envious. I'd love to have the room and time to set something up like this. I understand what you mean about getting the most fun in building it, it must be very satisfying at the end to step back and admire it all. Bravo.
I can only repeat what the other members have said - wonderful, amazing, great attention to detail - when can we buy the picture postcards
I'm also very impressed with the background you've made, I'd love one but I don't really build my medieval stuff up very often. I know you said your going to do a western one next but is there any chance of a general countryside one? I'd love some thing that had hills, fields, woods but not a mountain top version that I could use for both my large Victorian houses and as a palace backdrop. Wishfull thinking here! :help:
:picsplz: :omg: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

seeing these fab medieval set up pics i want to go to my diorama and continue setting it up !!!!
-
Wow! What an amazing diorama! Such detail, and I love the story it tells. I especially like the material you used for the cobblestones. Would you be willing to tell what it is that you used for them? Makes me want to get my very small medieval collection out again and get building!
Thanks for sharing the pics.
-
thanx everybody for the kind words.... :)
Emma: i would love to do lots of different backdrops and now seeing the result in the pics i would always go for it but i will just do another one this year and then we see ;)
no secret for the floor : please contact volker : vn@axstone.de
George : Thx ! keep on the good work

PS : i start now more to go in the storytelling section but first it´s just a topic and a photographic story. it is the beginning of stories playing in and around Eulenburg :

Hi Rene! would you mind sharing the scale of the trees? 1:50?? (if you know it of course)
The biggest I can found is 1:86 which is about 12/17 cmts depending on the tree.... and yours must be at least 22/24 cmts right?
-
Hi Gaston,
playmobil scale is 1:24 - the trees are from the trains that have "Spur G" which is 1:22,5 that´s why LGB Trains fit so good with playmo. the trees are between 24 cm and 35 cm.
-
oh wow! 35cm??
I searched on ebay and the tallest I found was a 18cm palm tree
Anyway! that's great thank you Rene!
-
The playmobil tall pine tree must be around 35cm in height ... looks awesome i reckon   , i have over 50 of these tall playmotrees .....

I was very lucky i bought in one go about 150 pine trees of all sizes and about 50 very large magic forrest trees and about 30 oak trees , all currently being set in my mediaval set up,
-
after i bought some playmo trees at ebay i found out they had a set of 3 ( small , medium , large ) at DS for 9,90€ so i did get my little forest there. the G Scale Trees are more natural and give also a very nice atmosphere...

Thanks,
