As Cheng said, the gauntlet has been thrown. ;)
It is a machete that has been sanded down to fit a drill hole in a Roman pilum.
Were I to fix this up a bit more, I would sand it to slide down all the way into the hole,
But I think it is also because I did not drill far enough.
A little late to the game, but I came in swinging what I got! :P
I hope you all like it.
-
Excellent work!!!
-
Nice prototype, WoT, but I agree with you, it needs to be further down the handle.

Dear Gordon, WoT was in a hurry to pip my (and Cowabounga's) Naginata(s) ;)
WoT, you cut my Naginata 2 (lived for only 24 hours) in a 'drawing' slash... ;D
....hai, hai...it does look very naginata, really!! the proportion looks right...the pole does not have to be any longer(but no cutting Pilums for me no cutting Pilums for me no cutting Pilums for me no cutting Pilums for me no cutting Pilums for me no cutting Pilums for me no cutting Pilums for me :P )

Nice work WoT. I'm not sure about keeping the hand guard of the machete. I think it makes double use with the triangular end of the pilum. Just aesthetics.
Guys, did you notice how cheng has started twaddling? (See his last posts) Or is it some self persuasion technique? ;D
Cheers,
Arnaud
-
Thanks guys. :)
Cheng, I still think your Naginata looks better,
It is smoother. 8-)
I have 10 or so pilums to spare though... from some other purchase. :eh?:
If you want I could send you some. ;)
Arnaud,
I actually like the machete handle being there.
I might change my mind when I squish it down a bit...
But for now I think I'll keep it.
-
Nice prototype WoT! You could always attach some type of ribbon/streamer/fire hose section to cover the machete's exposed area to make it look more finished if you don't want to modify it anymore.
-
I was thinking the same think Bill,
I will look into it,
But I did modify it so it sits down more.

Just encouraging him, cheng dear friend, just encouraging him. :)

hey Arnaud, I agree your using of the flower for the 'handguard' was a good choice
BUT
twaddling?
definition: "silly idle talk : something insignificant or worthless : nonsense or untrue"
eh? ??? please do correct me on the spot :P or I'll be heading in the wrong direction, all alone...like a wandering samurai ;D
-
Just encouraging him, cheng dear friend, just encouraging him. :)
I know Gordon, all in jest, we all like WoT's young enthusiasm dont we?! ;) ;D :P

no thanks for now but so kind of you! :)

great idea Bill!
a red sleeve would look beautiful!
(so WoT can retain the length without further drilling....WoT, you did not put any glue on the shaft, did you?)

Uh, oh! Wrong choice of word I realise. Definitely not the definition I had in mind. All aplogies Master Cheng.

I'm glad guys. ;D
No I haven't put any glue in the shaft,
it sits there snugly so I don't have to. :)
I'll see if I can get a streamer on... ;)

So the first picture is the original, just shaved down.
The next is with a ribbon.
I like it with the ribbon, but I would prefer if it were yellow or green,
So I think I will wait for that. (I will probably order one on my next DS purchase.)

looks good, WoT!
...meanwhile, you might like to know that the red tassels is probably the most correct color ;)
-
Why is that Cheng? ???
-
...meanwhile, you might like to know that the red tassels is probably the most correct color ;)
ummm...i'm no authority on history...maybe its just what we see more in movies...is it ok if i say 'red is the most popular/used color'?
..I've not seen a green tassled asian weapon although an army would use green identification(on head covers/uniforms) for one of its units ;)
-
I am pretty sure there can be all sorts of tassel colors.
I'll have a skim through my Samurai book tomorrow, or perhaps Monday.
(Very busy tomorrow! ;D (Fun and Excitement!!!))
