I'm pleased to become a member of Playmofriends---I've been reading some of your posts and viewing the photo albums for awhile, and it's fun to now be a real member!
I started acquiring Playmobil after I saw the Santa feeding the animals in the woods Advent calendar, and thought it was so neat that I bought it. The nativity scene followed, and then I sort-of fell into Playmobil! I ordered the Grande Mansion and Noah's Ark from a discontinued Playmobil store in Canada (I'm in the United States), and began to collect a varied group of sets and characters---fairies, pirates, knights, children, adults, animals, houses . . . and the list goes on. i was very impressed with some of the customizations that many of you have done---I first noticed Emma Jane's creations, and thought they were fantastic, and then found all the enormous set-ups that people created for various European toy fairs.
I am very fond of creating scenes and photographing them, and love to use Playmobil to illustrate stories. The movies and stories that I've found here look both fun to make and quite time-consuming, and I've loved the artistry of the work. I have also enjoyed finding answers to odd questions about Playmobil that I've googled around for, and almost always have been directed to a Playmofriends link. So, those are the reasons I am pleased to find fellow Playmobil fans, and I'm looking forward to being a member of this site!
I had fun ordering and altering the sails of a Playmobil sailboat---it reminded me of Max in the story "Where the Wild Things Are"---and I had fun creating my avatar this afternoon :)

Thank you all! I've been reading the photo posting threads throughout the years and it seems like hosting on Photobucket both allows members from all parts of the world access to images and also enables photos to be posted rather than thumbnails?
-
Yes, most of us here use either photobucket of image shack, but everyone who can is moving towards photobucket now because some members have problems seeing imageshack pics. Photobucket allows you to size pics down, not up, but assuming you upload it there as a normal size you shouldn't have a problem.
-
Thanks for your quick reply! I'm going to work on resizing prior to uploading---the camera that some of my photos come from are very unnecessarily large files. Is there an optimum size in terms of pixels that works best for the site? I'm remembering seeing a post that recommended 800 x 600 (15" screen) but saw another post (I'm not finding it right off) that said 720-750 was too wide for some people's screens, and that 600 something should be the largest width. Any clarifications on this would be great! Thank you very much :)
-
The photobucket size I use is 640x480 (or something like that) and it seems to be a very good size, not too big, not too small.
-
Thank you Bonnie Beth, perfect timing! My husband just walked into the room (he's a professional photographer) and he is going to show me a quick method of "bulk resizing." Thanks again for your instant reply!!!

Can other people see the photo that I just posted? I just joined Photobucket and think I've learned how to post images!!! I will generally paste them in an album (need to figure that out next :) but I wanted to see if this is working correctly, thanks!!!
(I'll try out using my first smiley :)

Thank you Skypurr :) I was just looking at your little avatar photo and trying to make out the 2 little animals you have with you and the background.
-
The little animals are my two cats - my username is taken from one of them
http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=5549.0
the background is the view from our garden!

Elaine, I have 2 cats as well, and a dog. It's fun finding playmobil representations of our animals :) You have a lovely view outside!

I forgot, :-[ you won't be able to access that section until you have 30 posts and become a Playmobil Enthusiast! not long to go!
-
Yes, it will be soon :) I spent the afternoon taking some playmobil photos and once I edit them, I'll post them. It was fun to do the photography :)
-
Hi, I'm just testing how to save files to photobucket for linking to the playmofriends site (I had been saving them at 640 pixels but that worked out to be too small for print stories so I'm doing an experiment with this at 1024 pixels)
-
Well I see that it works, but it's too big for the screen and needs a scroll bar, which I'm not very fond of!
-
I get the scroll bar as well, BUT such beautiful colors! And I love the way you added the gazebo onto the land plate
-
Thank you :)
-
That's why I use the 640 size, to avoid the scroll bar. But wow, what beautiful colors you have used here! It's so pretty!
-
Thank you Bonnie Beth, I've been working on saving a large batch of photos today as 640 pixels. I thought I would get them loaded today, but as it's almost midnight, I'll wait until tomorrow :)
-
A very warm :welcome: from England dear Jmax
Have fun on Playmofriends :)9
