Title: NAGINATA!
Post by: cowabounga on May 14, 2011, 20:14:05
Since this awful samurai was released, I've wanted to make some nice customs with it. And why would he carry two katanas?? How realistic is that anyway?
So I made this almost 100% playmobil naginata (long lance with a curved blade). I hope our friend cheng can make a small briefing about these.
cheng, these are really easy to make, even without a mini drill... I used a hot sewing needle.

Dismantled, see I bored two small holes; one at the base of the blade and one at the top of the pole (cut the point of the lance!). the intermediary part is... a playmobil daisy! The small wire connecting the three parts comes from a paper-clip. And that's it!

WOW cowabounga-Arnaud!
talk about the perfect 100%-PM naginata!

...I've plenty of PM daisies to spike and wont feel any pain BUT to cut the (hardest Japanese steel :P) katana :P and another spear (double  :P :P) aaaaaahhhhh very painful neh!

still, the result may be worth it...they look awesome on any samurai (I bet WoT will be arming his with these soon  :)

one suggestion Arnaud, instead of using a daisy, how about just cutting the katana handle just before the hand-guard?  ;)

btw, your tranfers look very 'printed-on' !!

p.s. you correctly wiped off his "Mongol" moustage but oh...pain...more pain  :P 8}

Well, I told you before: harmony (of proportions, here)! I usually make my customs out of memory, then I compare with Google images. In my mind's eye, the Naginata blade was shorter than the katana's. Also I think it grew wider at the end and curved back even more. So, to respect proportions at least, I cut the katana  blade a bit shorter for the naginata.
I thought handle would look to small on top of the lance pole, the daisy has nice "scalloped" petals and is a bit larger (and it's round), so I think it fits better.

Cheers,
Arnaud

Yes, I agree Arnaud, the katana's guard is too small to be effective ;)

....I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata...I shall not make a Naginata... :P

Great work Arnaud. Happily not my theme so I don't have to cut up anything for this :-)

Will you stop saying that Gis? You say "not my theme" here, "not my theme" there, and now you've bought the Take along Western set... ;D
