Title: Lady Mc Angus
Post by: skypurr on May 05, 2011, 16:55:54
Haven't posted much lately as I've been very busy.
However, I now have lots of time to spare as I've just had an operation on my hand and because I have my arm in a sling at the moment I can't waste time doing housework ;D so hope to catch up on everything I've missed in the past few weeks!

The night before my op I finally managed to finish the lady I'm sending to Karim.
She's called Lady Georgiana and is the wife of Lord Hamish Mc Angus of Barnhourrie.
Here she is in her travelling dress with a skirt of Pride of Scotland Tartan...

and in her ball gown of lavender satin...

and here with Lord Hamish, outside the ancestral home...

I used a craft paint called Luna Lights to create her satin dress.  It is a water based paint but can be used on metal, plastic and ceramics.  It needed quite a few thin coats, but gives a lovely pearlescent effect.

The colours can be mixed to make other shades too.

Hope you like her!

Lord Hamish's outfit is fantastic too. They make a really lovely pair.

GREAT! GREAT! GREAT WORK!

This party is such a fantastic event!

For me, it feels, as if I am really there, making friends with all the amazing people, who come to celebrate with Karim. I can SMELL the garden and I can HEAR the people talking.

It´s like a wonder coming to life.

Absolutely stunning, Elaine.  Words fail me.  Truly beautiful.

I hope you do what the doctors tell you now, and give your hand a good rest (you'll have to avoid more than housework).

That purple is so gorgeous! Your painting it is what really sets it off though. The detail in her skirt, shawl, and hat is incredible.

Thank you everyone for your lovely comments :thanks:
I really enjoyed doing the painting, I'm longing to try painting some more skirts using some of the other colours - I have a lovely bright green and a bright pink that I want to use, but I'm not supposed to use my hand yet so can't do any painting at the moment.  :'(

Jeremy, Lord Hamish's kilt was indeed made using a lady's skirt - here's the explaination I used in an earlier thread:

"...I made the skirt by cutting down a lady's long skirt and cutting down a plain pair of a man's legs and sanding them at the top so they would just fit inside the skirt space.
I then used a plastic repair material called Plastex to fill the gap and hold the legs in place..."

Hope this helps!

Elaine, thank you for the link to the paint. Unfortunately it's coming up with nothing, and a google search for Luna Lights comes up with "ink".  Is the stuff? http://www.sirstampalot.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=luna+lights (http://www.sirstampalot.co.uk/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=luna+lights)

We may be about to embark on our first custom (not counting all the Klickies who have had their hair swopped over). This won't be a Klicky, though  8-)

Yes Alison, that does seem to be the same, comparing them with my bottles, but I wouldn't really have called it ink, it is a bit thicker than ink.
I don't know what's happened to the other link, the paints were there last week, perhaps they've sold out!  :D
