Title: What new items would you like to see as direct service items/add-ons?
Post by: Wolf Knight on May 04, 2011, 06:11:48
After popular demand and so many of us having so many good ideas for new items that we would like to see from playmobil, here is a chance to write about them!

If a re-release of the victorian lamp-post is a problem:
a nice new Lamp-Post

Some more animals:
platypus
cassowary
african wild dog
gemsbok
(and i second all the others, especially the okapi and the llama!)

more ideas:
food for the plates (as in a chicken leg and some peas molded together, etc.)
a pretzel vending cart (like the ice cream and hot dog ones)
more children's toys, including mini playmo boxes

I'm sure there's more. I'll come back to it.

Also, more steck houses just like the new bakery coming out, tents for jousting tournamnets in different colours ( this is already mentioned ), an air ballon - 17th century ( ok not a DS part more lilke a proper set but still woudl love to see one and i think it would sell etc ), western cannons, green or blue  coats , need an opponents army / ds klickies to oppose the redcoats and the new english army , french i reckon ideally and in blue to be more historically accurate ... also mediaval city people , farmers etc etc with their sabos and lovely mediaval hats and equipment. In addition , many animals as mentioned before ,  the oak standard large tree and the oak tree with hide out these are superb trees !!!!!!! Also i agree with the previous idea of new steck items , after all steck in playmobil terms as you may have noticed is God for me  :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

Really good topic and really grand ideas so far, i am so happy DS is workign in greece and 1500 items are on their way to me , really happy i will buy woindmills, water tanks, bakeries , wine barrels , oldtimer cars for much less tnan ebay prices , its all really good just please please pleeeeeeeeeease bring back Nuremberg guards so i can get rid of this annoying signature here after all !!!!

:wow:

More Victorian/early 1900s stuff!

And older Medieval sets returned...
Maybe with older parts substituted for newer? (But not to change the set too much.)

And white Medieval tents, like this one (http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4273&cgid=), but white.

Well, it is different then the old stuff... :toot:
And I did make the suggestion to change things in the old Medieval sets.

As for the Victorian sets I mentioned, I meant new Victorian sets.
Preferably with old items in them though, that would be neat! ;D

I think one of the reasons there are so many modern vehicles is kids can easily associate with them as they see them everywhere. How many kids see classic Victorian cars driving around and would want to play with them. But are we just talking about things collectors only would want because I would not complain, well maybe if they were unrealistic colors, about 4, 5 or even 10 Victorian cars/trucks  :P

I would love to see a revival of the winter theme. I don't think the Dino Expedition theme really counted!  :-[ I would love to see winter vehicles, snowmen, a lodge, and much more. And if they're going to reintroduce this theme, why not reissue some of the amazing winter sets from the 1990s and igloos from the 1980s! ;)

Ooh, I definitely second the tamarins! How could I forget them? And I would love to see lemurs and fossa from madagascar. I've often wished they would do an australian outback theme, like the african safari themes.

"New" as add-ons? - I thought Playmobil only released add-ons if the stuff was previously released in the standard catalog/sets?

in that case i'd request more dog breeds - the types of dogs in the playmo world is very limited. Otherwise victorian lamp posts in a different color (if that counts as 'new') would be nice to see again

OK what is the outback of Australia?
Um, how to explain it, let's see. i guess you could say the countryside, the vast areas where there is virtually nothing, the untamed parts of it, apart from the cities. Maybe Lindama or Sylvia could offer a better definition.

Have you seen Crocodile Dundee (the first one)? Or Mad Max? Or Burke & Wills? Or Walkabout?

Please don't ask me (or anyone else on here) what it stands for, but the outback is also sometimes referred to as the GAFA but that more refers to the "red centre" which is the outback's outback (ie desert). When people refer to "the bush", that's the bit of the outback that's possibly easier to survive in (unless you are a cast member in the popular Australian TV series "Neighbours")

Military Playmobil = Giorgionetto's bankruptcy followed by  massive war diorama with over 100 tanks and vehicles, planes and thousands of soldier klikckies with lines of tens of artillery guns etc etc ...

That will never happen though ...

There are plenty of other toy companies that make military tanks and vehicles in correct scale that could be adapted for playmobil use. The Klickes could be painted or you could even make the camo Klicky with out painting. There is even enough of the adventure Klickies that would look military enough with their stock colors and prints.

What I find odd is that a company that says they are avoiding violence there sure is a lot of violent element to many themes.

Unfortunately it would not sell but I would like to see the historic themes lack of civilians filled in by DS. They touched on it briefly with the families but those were more of upper-class. We need a lot, total understatement, more normal civilians that always make up the majority of any civilization. What good is it to have so many, captains with no crew, chiefs and few Indians, Romans with no peasants, Knights & Royals with no servants, etc...........

What I find odd is that a company that says they are avoiding violence there sure is a lot of violent element to many themes.

I don't believe most of us can relate to the violence the historic themes bring out... its something that we have not lived through, only through narration and in the last decades through films, but I think if there is not a generation directly affected by these violent historical events, well, we cannot see them as so violent...

Tanks and military vehicles for playmobil, at least for me, are not such a good idea.. somehow the modern military colours on the smiling klickies dont look good to my eye...

But I agree with you Ras, we need to see more civilians and everyday klickies

Yes it is strange how people seem to glamorize classic violence and even modern. Not much glamor in a killer to me, even if he/she is 1000 years old. Whats next, in 100 years are we going to glamorize slave lords  ::)

Ok how about DS makes people of the arts and humanities. More musicians, artists (painters, sculptors, architects, etc...)   and how about philosophers, we could use some of them. It would be a challenge to get the idea across but kids should know more about these subjects more versus yet another weapon.

I often wonder whether people forget how horrible the Romans were, for example.  We get a lot of "What the Romans Did For Us" type programmes, but once again I switched off Gladiator before it had finished the other night.  And yes, we need more ordinary people for all time periods and for the modern Klickies, I would like to see them for all weathers as well. Hardly any of mine have coats!!!

Anyway, back to what I would like to see. I wrote a hugely long post yesterday, all inspired, and somehow lost it. Today I cannot think what it was I was going to say.

Here goes, though ...

Outdoor activities - yes, we've got camper vans and some tents and a climber and a some holiday/vacation homes, but there isn't a lot for folk to do while they are away. I envisage a plastic bag full of sports gear - cricket bat and ball, volleyball net, tennis rackets, tennis net, table tennis table & bats, flying disc (not allowed to say Frisbee), boules/petanque. Would a Playmobil kite work?

Crazy Golf (Mini Golf) - I reckon that would translate really well into Playmobil with all the various features for each hole. A nine hole course would do!!

Bikes (and bring back the little trailer for the child)

More coastal stuff - I know there's new harbour stuff coming out later in the year, and there are the beach sets but there is nowhere near enough beach!! I'd like to see a pier (most of the ones in Britain date from Victorian times so that could fit in with Victorian Ladies and Gentlemen having a stroll and taking the air as well as for modern folk on a trip to the seaside).

A funfair could fit in well with a beach theme

Beach huts

A restaurant.  How about a generic restaurant, being an empty restaurant building, and then the contents/fixtures/fittings/food etc be purchased as an add-on, ie the base plus one "kit" costs x amount, and if you want to ring the changes you can buy another add-on kit. The add-on kit would comprise staff, food, tables and chairs (or tables and benches), crockery, cutlery, the restaurant counter,  the restaurant name/type and a national flag if necessary. You could perhaps choose from Indian, Chinese, Italian, Fast Food, Steakhouse, posh French restaurant, a British Pub. The possibilities could be endless (and I haven't left any type of restaurant out on purpose!!)

A marquee. Not for any special reason, but school fetes, wedding receptions, pet shows, county fairs. We just need a marquee as an add-on

Modern market stalls - I'm sure a lot of us have enough bits in the bottom of our plastic boxes to put out on the stalls, but again the market stalls could be sold with one add on bag of bits, ie bakery, mobile phones, cds/computer games, fruit & veg, antiques.

I appreciate most of this is on a modern theme, but that's more what interests me.

Lastly, I got very excited thinking about Australia!!!  The Royal Flying Doctor Service, the opal mines at Coober Pedy, the First Fleet bringing the original convict settlers to Australia in 1788, the Australian Gold Rush 70 or so years later. the Great Barrier Reef (bit hard for Playmobil to do, but worth a mention), the Aborigines with their boomerangs, woomeras and didgeridoos. And the wildlife which has already been mentioned kangaroos, wallabies, potaroos, wombats, possums, koalas, echidnas, platypusses, Fairy penguins, galahs, parakeets, cockatoos, budgerigars, kookaburras, lyre birds.

Now, what was it I was thinking of last night ..........

I haven't memorised the contents of my Collectors Book yet (too busy collecting) but I'm sure that a few of the things I mentioned do already exist. It's just a case of tracking them down.

As for a British pub being inappropriate, it may be seen so from abroad but in Britain most children are acquainted with the inside of a pub - most pubs serve food and many pubs have a family room and/or a garden. Pubs are very often a better choice for a family meal out than a traditional restaurant.  Obviously there are laws governing when children are allowed in, and where they are allowed to be (they are not allowed up at the bar) and above that it's at the landlord's discretion anyway.  So, the Playmopub would have to have a garden and a climbing frame to be truly authentic  ;)

Laziness just kicked in!! Apart from the animals (which I am not too lazy to search for because it's unlikely their Playmobil names will differ from their actual names, but as for other items, can you please tell me which ones because I often can't find things on PlaymoDB because they aren't called what I think they should be called  (although I know there are tennis racquets available too, and bikes from DS but I want to see lots of bikes available as a DS item although I am sure there used to be a bag of bikes). Then I can start a frenzied search and an equally frenzied spending spree

Oh come on, 3/4 of the fun is searching. I have found so many items that are "must haves" by trying to track down an obscure item. There is nothing like searching for hours through Heathers thousands & thousands of pictures  ;D Even after collecting for years now I still come across items I did not know about (or its early senile dementia :P)

Oh but if you have a large area filled with them outside of your Zoo, say near the parking lot, it would be like a lot of city dwellers chose green modes of transportation  ;)

Pubs are very often a better choice for a family meal out than a traditional restaurant.  Obviously there are laws governing when children are allowed in, and where they are allowed to be (they are not allowed up at the bar) and above that it's at the landlord's discretion anyway.  So, the Playmopub would have to have a garden and a climbing frame to be truly authentic  ;)

there was a pub with a nice garden I used to visit on sunny days when studying in Canterbury... I miss that place...

And Ras is right!!! It so much fun to search for the piece/item you so desperately need  ;D

 I've thought about having a parking lot for my zoo, but it's bigger as it is than I can even set up in any room of my house now, so there's no chance of having room for a parking lot!

Well I say "its time for a bigger house"  or "get rid of the furniture" you will be playing on the floor anyways  ;D

How about a picture or two---dozen  :lens:

Believe me, when I do finally clear all the urniture out of the living room, set up at least four six-foot tables, and lay out the entire zoo, I will take hundreds of pictures, and probably some videos! And I might try to make some photostories while it's up, too.

Do you realise how hard I have to try NOT to search for hours through Heather's thousands & thousands of pictures.  If I had a wife like me, I'd probably just get on with the searching.  Or if I didn't need my six hours' sleep, I'd forgo it in favour of making the mother of all wants lists/spares lists/dream lists
Yes, that would be great! I seem to be drowning in bikes, Alison, and I have no use for them at all, as they aren't allowed in the zoo. PM me your address and I'll send you a few!
Thank you. I'll PM you in a few days because there must be something I have kicking about that you may need in return, or I may be able to do you a favour in some other way (ie get something here that you can't get there).

I forgot about an item i've talked about many times...babies! Would love to see a black baby, perhaps released with another black modern family. Also a blonde baby and a red headed baby would be awesome.

If Chris and Bonnie manage three babies who fit those descriptions, there should be a lucrative reward from a newspaper or magazine.  Enough to keep the 5 of them in Playmobil for two lifetimes!!!

Do you mean a black baby to be bought seperately? Because there is one, in the Colorado Springs train station (3770).
Title: Re: What new items would you like to see as direct service items/add-ons?

Yes, that's the only black baby ever produced, and it's hard to find one without having to buy the whole station, which goes for $200-300 if it's complete. :-\ Of course, I do want the station anyway, so eventually I'll spring for it, I guess. Meanwhile, I wish I could buy a $3 special or add-on with a black mother and baby.

I like this idea. I would think one of the old buildings with a few fences, barrels, barmaid, etc could easily be done. And it could be an old time one or a modern one.
At one time I thought about doing an Amercian amusement park in HO train scale for my German village. A vintage village with the older timber buildings and costume character walking around for visitors could be neat. And then there's the pub for refreshment.  You could be on to something.

Jay,
Take a look at Colonial Williamsburg's layout if you have not been there. Lots of great ideas for a walk around historical park. WoT also likes Old Salem in NC.

This sounds like a wonderful idea because these places bring history to life, and a good dose of life-sized history is such a fantastic opportunity for most folks these days.

I agree that many pubs in the UK and Australia are comfortable family places. One has to wonder about the impact of the internet and the huge amount of time folks spend on computers these days...has it destroyed pub time, which used to be a daily ritual around 4PM in Australia during the 70's when I visited as a college student?

We did not have a tradition like that in West Texas where I grew up. Does anyone know if they have had that practice (of the entire family spending a few hours at a pub) anywhere in the US during the past 50 years? Cheers, Pgal

Well.... :-[ I never really thought of it as torture, more imprisonment, but I guess it is if you have to stay in them for a long time. They sure aren't very comfortable! We tried out two kinds, the ones you bend over and put your arms and head through, and then the other kind, you sit on a vertical board, so the seat is very uncomfortable, and put your feet through the holes.

Krull is full of klickies !!!!  I wont have more space to creat a bigger set up in the very near future and i think there are \ plenty of klickies. I want to get another 20-30 mediaval town people. I got a few more today , two male klickies from 3447 they look superb in tehir hats and fur !!!!!
