It certainly looks a very nice piece to own but, as you say, expensive.
-
When you say cable car I envision a car being moved by a cable. The ones we have in SF use an underground cable to move around. The LGB one you showed wouldn't it be more of an electric car ?
That would be a great addition to a 1900's scene, good luck in finding one you want at a reasonable price. Collecting LGB has to be high on the list of the most expensive toys to collect
-
Wow that is expensive! :o
I didn't know a single LGB-car costs that much...
Btw, here in Ghent (Flanders, Belgium) we also still have (modern) cable-cars. Like the LGB one, they get their electrical power from cables above the trail (rails).
Here's a piccie from the cables in front of the medieval castle in the centre of the city. It's an akward view, such cables in front of a castle.

Here in the UK this type of vehicle is called a tram. As I should know as my wife comes from SF, a cable car in the USA is moved by an underground cable. When I first read the post I was expecting the type of cable car used to move people up and down mountains like this one:
http://www.fast-autos.net/diecast-cars-models/diecast-cars-models-for-sale.php?itemID=320669235856
Might be worth saving these pics before they disappear from eBay.

We call it a "tram" in Belgium as well! :)
When someone gets age 30 or 40 f.e., we say he/she "is catching tram 30 or 40"

This is what is called a cable car in Canada:

Yes, that's the real version of the LGB one I posted the link for.

playmofriend: that price for the cable car ( mountain ) is so absurd. i did get this for 30 € mint in box.
thx for the interesting information about trams and cable cars etc.
the LGB tram is very cool but the price is just too much.

This tram looks fantastic !!!!!! :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: :inlove:

Giorginetto: i know...it would fit so good in the nostalgie diorama...i will hold my eyes open for some auctions but i will not pay 400€ for this...

I wouldnt either , for that money you can buy a train with 3 passenger wagons and a train station and rails for it ...

I never understood why this LGB stuff is so expensive. It is just plastic like playmobil and the plastic even feels cheaper.

OcCre-Kits are a little cheaper [KLICK!] (http://www.occre.com/index.php?option=com_productos&task=listcat&id_cat=18&Itemid=30). But you need a motor in addition. I would prefer a playmobil-motor (it's cheaper; OcCre-Motor is very simple and weak: only 1 axle is motorized: for 117,50 € or more).
Prices here [KLICK!] (http://www.rd-hobby.de/shopping/catalog.php?id=1346)

They look very interesting but are still very expensive when you add in the motor. My favourite is this one:

as it reminds me of the Manx Electric Railway here:
http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2258073
especially if it had the power pick up of this one rather than the catenary type:

Oh those are pretty. Its too bad they need to be modified with motors. How do they look/fit with Klickies ?

I have an account so if you would be able to provide direct links I could see them that way. With out knowing German it is quite time consuming to search and time is not on my side. Even with the translators it is difficult :-[
Thank you zugpferdchen :**:
