Title: Samurai wearing 'european' Hakama
Post by: cheng on April 16, 2011, 02:46:59
My samurai wears a Hakama (skirt with seven deep pleats to represent the seven virtues of bushido)

The front pleats of a real Hakama is asymmetrical (three to the right, two to the left), such is an example of asymmetry in Japanese aesthetics.

Trival pursuit question: can anyone identify which European klicky wore this 'Hakama'?

It's from one of the fairy tale castle sets, the kitchen maid, I think.

If anyone isn't familiar with the hakama this will help:

Shameless promo from someone who practices Kendo and Iaido and has more than a few hakama himself.

thank you Playmofriends!!

...and thank you for the 'lessons' WM-senseh!
...a Kendo special from Geobra would be fantastic!! ...then a Fencer special  (no way I can make those what-you-call-face-masks :P)

It's called a "men" - named after face/head of where you cut with the sword.  Yes, it would be hard to make - harder for Playmobil, I think than for one that will just be placed on a shelf for decoration and not played with by children.

Hmm, maybe I should try to make one.  I think if one used a good medieval helmet (barbut type) as a base and cut it to get the basic shape and then add the 'men flaps' and then the grill in the front.  You would have to cut the back open as the back of the men is open (you still sweat tons though!).  The throat guard would be the hardest to make - but maybe because of the size of the figure you could just leave that off (or make it come out far enough so that the shoulders would not damage it if the head was turned).

Now you've got me thinking about customizing ...

ah-so! ...so thats where the 'mempo' name comes from I suppose  ;D
...even the mempo took me ages, customising the 'men' would be impossible for me  :P
(maybe if Geobra releases a baseball-catcher special, then it'll be a lot easier for us to add those neck & shoulder flaps  ;) )

Excellent job again Cheng! :wow:
I was waiting for you to use that skirt. ;D
I thought I might beat you too it...
Bit it is nice to see how it looks in a better photo, and with an actual Samurai.

And thank you very much for the video WM. :)

thanks WoT, good to see you back! (we need to keep bombarding with Asians so that we can see a fantastic Asian launch from Geobra sooner...something like their Egyptians/Romans launch at least)

Good to be back, I was on a no-internet vacation in Disney for the past week or so.
It was very refreshing. :)

I agree, keep showing Geobra our Asian klickies and they will have to produce some sometime... ;D
Hopefully they may use a few of our ideas too...
Like the Medieval helms for Samurai since they do look very nice,
I do not think they need any improvements on that, but maybe some cool lamellar printing/sticker.

By 'video WM' I meant to thank Wesley Myers for the video he added to his post. :wow:
