Hi,
i worked today on my custom rails for the western dio. these are 1,20 meter LGB Rails + i cut a wooden base and fixed the rails. i found somebody who sells gravel for model trains and did get some great tipps from him how to put the crushed rocks on the base. here is the result.

They look great! So, the gravel is attached to the wooden base, and the rails too?
-
Excellent work!

bb: yes. the rails are fixed with 4 little nails on the wooden base ( the LGBs have small holes for that in the rail sleepers ) the crushed rocks are glued to the base ( not to the rails ) step by step

Interesting. I really love the effect! Very realistic.

The rock bed makes a night to day difference on any railroad (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/thumbs-up.gif).

Ohh very nice results,
any chance on doing a "how to" with all the effective tips you seemed to have learned so well?
I never liked any of the mass produced ideas.
I was thinking of just sprinkling some graves loosely but this is so neat and clean
One question, how much higher does the train now ride and do the passenger loading platforms meet the step of the coaches ?

The rocks really do make a difference

Rasputin: i used a 10 mm wooden base so thats what you have more in height - no problem. if you would sprinkle some graves loosely it will end up in a big mess i think...
Primus : yeah i was like yes ? no ? yes ? no ? but when i look at the rails and train it looks so much better. i really can recommend it.
i will do some pics how i did them.

Great work, the result is very realistic. And thanks for the step-by-step.
