Over on his topic about the take-a-long pick-up, Ras said something about the driver's ugly T-shirt that started me thinking. Why does Geobra usually go for the tacky look? Look at that driver's T-shirt - it screams "I'm a hick that can drive over anything with my big bad truck!". The same goes with the chopper that I bought, with a klicky that looks like a perfect Sunday-Peter-Fonda-wannabe. Or the big blue cruiser, with "Saint Louis" written on the bike and on the biker's back. And both riders come with the Prince Valiant hairdo. I understand that Geobra tries to imitate real life, but do they have to usually imitate the weirdos ::)?
Sometimes I think they take the caricaturization overboard. Yeah, these are toys aimed at children, but why go overboard and tacky? A 5yo does not know who peter Fonda is, so why use that particular look :hmm:?
-
I really think they hired a new print team and purchased a expensive printing machine over at Geobra and now they are running wild with it. As far as the content or images for the actual klickies it really bugs me as well. If you go to a store, a real one, you will see all kinds of these tacky print shirts for kids and even adults that have always bugged me. As if I want to be some lame corporate walking billboard, and be paying to do it.
If these klickies had normal looking shirts they would be so much more useful in other themes. Playmobil used to be about having the ability to take any klicky and with a simple change they could be anybody. Now with these prints they are stuck in tacky-vill
I suggest a simple all red shirt with prints of pockets or buttons
-
Eww, I just had a closer look at your pictures at "Small haul from Germany" (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=7452.0) and those prints on the blue bike have got to go. The klicky in that set look good with his pants and cowboy-ish shirt so he will do. I guess the only complaint I have of him is the light blue shows through where his jacket sleves meet his shoulders & arm pits.
Now that other chopper biker with his skull w/helmet shirt surely qualifies as tacky with a capital "L" on his forehead
-
That's what I was saying. Does Geobra think that our kids will believe or embrace this stereotypical image they want to sell ::)?
And thank you for reminding me that the "Saint Louis" is not etched on the bike :)9.
In other words, consider it gone ;).
-
Kid's don't see tacky! They just like something or they don't like it!! Opinions on tacky are probably reserved for we grown ups   And I agree entirely with everything that has been said. Now has to be the time for the "Least Attractive Klicky" photo competition though
A 5yo does not know who peter Fonda is, so why use that particular look :hmm:?
There are probably a lot of 25 year olds googling Peter Fonda as I type, wondering what he has to do with tacky biker chappies with tacky bikes ::)
To think, that dreadful film spawned a wannabe lifestyle in the 70s.
-
Well ... call me tacky then - 'cause I like them!

I wish they would do better when it comes to designing the clothes of klickys. For me personally, versatility is not an issue, you might see all kinds of people walking in a zoo. However, some are just ugly, and others would be great if they didn't have strange words written on them. I must have at least a dozen klickys with plaid shirts. How many plaid shirts do we really need? Then we talked about the one that says "pickup" and has a picture of a pickup truck. That's just stupid. There's a little girl with I  BOYS on her shirt. :hmm: I have an adult female with BEACH written on her shirt, which makes me snicker every time I see it. And a favorite example: http://store.playmobilusa.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-US-Site/en_US/Product-Show?pid=4697&cgid=Special Why does it say FIT on her shirt? ??? To me this klicky would be absolutely perfect -- she's one of my favorites -- if it didn't have that.
-
Why does it say FIT on her shirt? ???
Because she's NOT.
-
Next it will be a klacky with STYLISH written on her shirt. Geobra, please note: this is not a suggestion!
-
Because she's NOT.
btw, did you notice that her free hand is turned upside down? (if that is the expression)
I have found a couple of this mistakes in box illustrations.
That would be a fun thread!
-
Next it will be a klacky with STYLISH witten on her shirt. Geobra, please note: this is not a suggestion!
Don't worry ... I don't think they actually hear us ¬¬
If they do, they don't actually consider us.
Thinking twice, it's possible that they do consider the bad ideas :hmm:
Maybe they should actually consult us! :P
-
Yeah, sometimes I hope they hear us, sometimes I hope they don't.
You know what else drives me crazy about that special? The handle of the jogging stroller is not wide enough for her to hold it with both hands. >:(
You're right, Gaston... that would be a cool thread.
-
Yeah, sometimes I hope they hear us, sometimes I hope they don't.

oh I dind't know that. I don't have that one yet.
-
Yeah, it's aggravating. So I always have to pose them stopped looking at animals, when really out of all the visitors in the zoo, they are the only ones that should be in motion because they are there for exercise!
-
As i dnt buy modern era playmobil thats the first time i noticed this ' FIT' Klicky !!!!!
-

I suspect that Geobra's style guru lives near me and shops in our local supermarket, basing his/her designs on the people that shop there. I've seen them all in real life, but I suspect I might get arrested if I started taking photographs of them on my next shopping trip. And they actually sell little girl's T Shirts with I  boys on the front (they did - there has been a bit of an outcry recently about such items)!! Hang on - I might even be one of them :-[ (checks T shirt!)
When are we going to have our Least Attractive Klicky competition? :hissyfit:
-
those t-shirts are fun!
and if there is real people using them, why not clickies?
-
You really saw one that says I  boys? That's so funny!
I have no objection to T shirts with words on them, or even logos, many people do wear them, so its realistic. It's just sometimes the words on the shirt are dorky. Who wears a shirt that says "fit" or "sports"?
-
Who wears a shirt that says "fit" or "sports"?
It gets much worse than that in fact I am afraid      . A lot can be told about a person from the clothes he/she is wearing expecially if they have words/ messages on them. I find so many of them so tacky and hilarious and vulgar and stupid really , they usually make me laugh these T-Shirts ( well those who wear them really )

-
Well, I recently went to a funeral where a relative of the deceased showed up wearing a tshirt with a picture of a deer, a turkey and a duck, that said "there's room for all God's creations..... right next to the mashed potatoes"
-

That's the problem. The klicky goes from cool to dorky because of a silly T-shirt (the same as human beings, BTW). The don't have to be plain T-shirts all the time, but why can't the writings or figures be something less pathetic?

There was a time when ther was a blue, yellow, white, red and green klikcy and all parts were interchangable. That was key to the Playmobil Toy philoshophy and approach. These days klickies are purpose made and cnat be use in a different theme etc, i would rather see various parts for the original klickies that would be far more creative and constructive as a toy but it would probably mean far less profit etc etc so it wont happen. Thast why i hate modern klickies with their temporary clothing etc they cant be used anywhere else !!!! Ridiculus . Bring back Playmobil System or teleport me back in the late 70 so i can enjoy my fav playmobil, some awesome cars of that era, the great music of the time ( Disco !!! ) etc etc .. Will miss computer games as I will have to settle with Pacman I guess .....

No I didn't see it. Do you have a pic?

I agree they are tacky, and I woud rather be naked thatn with one of those, but is fun in clickies.
Words like FIT and SPORTS make sence when you think of the size of the printing. Words like that defines the whole idea of the clicky itself.

That is one of my points is that it is very limiting how one can use such Klickies. It is ridiculous to have a tee-shirt with a big souped up truck on it in the wild west era . The only theme it fits in is in modern. The biggest selling point of playmobil was interchangeability. With a simple click a construction worker became a knight and then back to a cowboy.

..exactly what i typed two posts ago !
-
But some hats, hair and legs are not interchangeable either! You can't wear a helmet for this FIT lady for instance. I don't hear anyone complainning about that!
options and variety are good guys! :P

I would turn that femal klicky into a fearsome Viking warrior in a few seconds if it dindnt have this stupid logs etc etc !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I prefer the more detaled klickys myself, rather than the old classic itnerchangeable ones.

A matter of personal taste I suppose....
Give me 1000 Nuremberg guards and 400 mediaval old style klickies and i wont say nothing against the new style klickies anymore !!!!

These a limiting our options, not being able to wear a hat or go time traveling to other themes.

Yes l like the new klickies more too but a print of pockets or buttons would have been so much more useful than some lame truck or FIT image on the shirt

I agree. Must've something to do with Germany and fashion sense. The worst culprits, fashion-wise, are the klickies in the recent Xmas market set: they're wearing some knit-wear straight out of a Burda catalogue circa 1982. And then there's - in that thread about the multi-etnic families - one of the dads who's dressed like a total berk, in (if I remember correctly) a tie/shirt/baseball cap horror combo.
Having said that, an actual Easy Rider/Peter Fonda set would have been so cool.

What you do not have a pair of those high fashion yellow pants in you wardrobe ? and the print of the tie just goes with any color seeing as it has every color in the rainbow on it :P

Actually we could have national fashion stereotypes. For example Spanish men of a certain age are quite partial to mustard-coloured trousers. Italian men, on the other hand, can always be seen with a cardigan casually draped over the shoulders. And so on.

1st prize for the giraffe lady! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/cheers.gif)

It could be done, just as easily as the FIT logo. And that's the whole issue: why does Geobra have to go the tacky route (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/hmm-1.gif)?
-
I don't think children, actually care how Klicky's are dressed. Tacky is not a concern for a play figure, just if they can use it for other purposes, like throwing at a sibling! We're probably the only ones that actually give a flip of how out of date, or noncurrent they are attired!
-
But don't we count? :(

I do not quite agree with this. Having watched three boys play with most everything they seldom fight over these tacky klickies. My wife has to teach them how to pick out clothes that are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. From this they are becoming aware of style and what not to combine, such as a plaid shirt with corduroy pants. Also why would Geobra go to such lengths to make good looking prints & color combinations if it did not matter.

I have had the same experience as Ras. My 4yo seldomly asks to "be" a few particular klickies, like the one with beards or the ones with screaming colors (these he say that are dressed in woman's clothes).
-
Because the mistook San Francisco as part of Planet Earth, and Portland as part of the US.

If it such a concern of children, then why do they do such bad creations like we're discussing? :hmm:

They do BECAUSE kid’s don’t care- And these are toys, in the end. Meant for kids.
Us grown ups will just have to learn how to appreciate them as they are- Or start drilling.

As I said earlier, it's not a concern of most children, just us! :)

I guess I did not read the "most", part.
As the saying goes "Nuts do not fall far from the Tree", at least that is what my darling wife likes to remind me of.

It was meant as kind of a joke.
