Title: Behind the Red Headed League.
Post by: Wolf Knight on March 20, 2011, 11:44:39
Just a small background first, concerning the following story!

The Case of the Red Headed League is a very famous Sherlock Holmes story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The 1985 television adaptation starring Jeremy Brett, shows that the man behind the planning of the Red Headed League case is non other than his arch nemesis, Professor Moriarty!

This photostory shows the connection between the novel and the television series.

At Karim's (playmovictorian) proposal, Gis and I made two klickies to participate the Regent Street Summer Party, Professor Moriarty and his colleague Colonel Sebastian Moran! But before these klickies are on their way to Karim, Gis and I thought of making a small photostory about them...

At the dark office of a manor outside London...
''Good evening Professor. You send for me?''

''Ah Colonel... you are here... good!''

''I have a blueprint for you. It must be delivered to Mr Vincent Spaulding.''
''That lowlife no gooder Sir? I thought we were done with him!''
''He asks for a good job to prove himself, and he has performed brilliantly in the past, so I am willing to give him a last chance''
Moriarty unrolls a blueprint on his study... ''This is the blueprint of the area where the City and Suburban Bank is situated. I have already arranged for Mr Spaulding to get a job at the pawnbroker's shop right across the street...''

''Mr Spaulding will be digging a tunnel for us from the pawn shop under the street and across to the bank, under its vault. In the vault there are 30.000 napoleones, part of a loan of the French for the British Governement. Its a good deal of money and can finance our other operations Colonel!''

''Take the blueprint Colonel...''

''And tell Mr Spaulding to get tomorrows paper and read the advertisements to the owner of the pawn shop, a naive gentlemen called Jabez Wilson.''
''Any advert in particular Sir?''

''He is to read the advertishement of the Red Headed League to Mr Wilson.''
''The Red Headed League Sir?''
''A very prestigious league for men with red hair, and Mr Wilson has exceptional red hair...''
''Does such a league exist Sir?'' asked the Colonel as he was packing the blueprint in his briefcase.

''You should know better Colonel'' replied the professor with a sinister smile...

...and while tapping his finger on the table...

''Tell also Mr Spaulding that he is to encourage his employer to answer this advertisement... its of the outmost importance if we need this plan to succeed!''
''I am sorry Sir, can you please be a bit more specific?''
''Very well...'' the professor raised his hand...

''Mr Wilson is about to be proposed a job he cannot refuse. He is a pawnbroker and most of his work is conducted in the evenings. His assistant, our man, has proven very loyal by now and can handle anything that might come up in the pawn shop in the morinigs. Or so Mr Wilson believes. That is why Mr Wilson will accept a meaningless ovepayed morning job... but we'll make it look as if he was indeed selected amongs other candidates beacuse of his... red hair quality!''

''Mr Spaulding will be digging the tunnel in the mornings, while his employer will be working for us at another location. A small cost to be payed, 4 pounds a week actually, to Mr Wilson for our 30,000 gold napoleons...''
''Brilliant plan Sir!'' said the Colonel.

...''but its time to be off to our next business Colonel!''
''Yes Sir, the carriage awaits, straigth for Regent Street Sir!''

''Good, good! Lets go and see that famous painting. I want to have a closer look myself! And then move this new plan forward...''

Very nice story! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/cheers.gif)
IIRC, "The Hound of Baskervilles" was also my 1st Sherlock story, though it wasn't the 1st Arthur C. Doyle that I read.

Nice! This reminds me I promised a second acolyte for Moriarty to Karim and haven't done it yet!
The hound of the Baskervilles was my first Holmes'story too. I guess our English teacher chose it because it's a rather small novel.
Panos, can you show us again the picture you took at Holmes'office, please?
Cheers.
Arnaud

This is magnificent and I cannot wait for these vilains to reach Regent St

They will come two life in the second part of my tales and I believe that there are a few other surprizes to expect as well  ;)

By the way, I would recommend everyone wishing to discover Sherlock Holmes to watch the TV series starring Jeremy Brett as he was the ultimate SH !

And for those visiting London, there is a wonderful SH Pub too with all the memorabilia of the Movies

Great job Panos! :wow:
I think I should read the Sherlock Holmes story as well. ::)
I have read one,
Perhaps it was The Hound of Baskervilles.
That sounds familiar, though I am not sure. ???

I agree with Bonnie, Warrior! The hound of the Barkarvilles has a very good plot and Arnaud is correct! It reads very well since its a short and very well written novel!

Excellent pictures Sir Wolf :-)

Thank you Gis!!! I am glad you like them!

Make sure you find sometime to read the whole Sherlock Holmes collection!

Thank you Jenna! Well, now I wish I sat differently on the chair and removed by backpack and jacket...

Good idea about the frame but I have no clue where the original photo is, this is a scan I did a few years ago...

I think the backpack makes it great! It really captures the moment for what it was. Otherwise, it could be a staged photo in a studio somewhere.

I devoured the Sherlock Holmes stories and novels when I was a teenager as well.  I'm a big fan of the Jeremy Brett series too.  The early Basil Rathbone movies, namely The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, are quite good too. :sherlock:
