Title: Radio Control
Post by: PrimusPilus on March 15, 2011, 12:25:41
Since I'm going to get some vehicles (like fire engines :prays:), I was wondering about the R/C add-on. Does anyone have it and adapted it to a vehicle? How is the fun factor? Is it worth the investment? Can you easily swap the unit to another vehicle?

I have the RC unit but haven't got round yet to using it.  To make swapping between vehicles easy I bought a separate chassis and set of stub axles and wheels to fit to the RC unit so that I can just remove the chassis from a vehicle and slot the RC with chassis unit in.  However, in some cases the RC chassis unit will need altering, for example where it needs to be lengthened for use with a longer vehicle or shortened for use with a shorter vehicle.  (You get all the bits needed for this, btw.)

Wolf Knight posted about using the RC unit with the 4821 fire engine some time ago.

I found WK's thread here (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=5603.0), and it answers a lot of my questions. So the module can be used for any vehicle that can be adapted to R/C? In other words, with one module I can power any of the designated vehicles?

Yes the RC unit will fit any vehicle that is RC compatible. You basically remove the stock chaise and replace it with the RC unit. Like Gordon mentioned you may need to either shorten or lengthen the RC chaise depending on which vehicle you are using. We have about 8 units and they are a big hit with my boys. It takes the playing to a new level of excitement. We love playing high speed chase with a robber and we use a fire truck as a police  pursuit vehicle. The object of our game is to pin the robbers car so it no longer can move.  The one thing I would suggest is getting rechargeable AA batteries and 2 sets for each vehicle. The older units take a lot of batteries and MacGayver explained the technical aspects it in a post as to the differences.

I was not disappointed in them

Really? Cool! (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/clapping.gif)
If I can I'll try to get one of these sets after I get myself some vehicles. Is there a list of the vehicles that can be used with the R/C unit?

Whoa! Even some of the older ones?!?  :yippee:
So if the #3181 "Fire Lead Car" accepts the module, my guess would be that the new #4822 "Fire Chief's Car" will also take it? Trés cool! I have the the#4822 inbound !

No, sorry the 4822 does not take the module... the 3181 is a far bigger vehicle and the 4822 was not designed to accomodate the module... sorry.

 :-\
Pity! If it did accept I could buy the R/C module a bit earlier, but I'll just wait until I get a vehicle that does accept it.
