I know this question will generate many different answers!
I want to use castle parts to make some custom rooms. What would be better, steck or system x?
-
I guess that would depend on what kind of rooms you want to make (before I yell steck). Could you please tell us more about what you're wanting to do?
-
I admit I'm very bias, but I think steck is usually better for customization
-
Well, I am gathering bits for my Hogwarts/Harry Potter theme and want to make things like a classroom, the Gryffindor common room etc. I would love to build a hogwarts but would probably spend the rest of my life getting the pieces, so thought a few rooms might make me happy.
-
I vote Steck for a Hogwart custom!
-
It would have to be Steck system. The System X ones just don't have the necessary flexibility to do large halls and custom spaces.
-
Thank you all. I own no steck so the search must begin. ;D
Any suggestions re: essential parts?
-
Steck it is

Is the current Red Falcon Keep Steck or System-X?
-
Do I need to write my views on Steck once again
I think a vote would be nice on this, the only worthy Playmobil castle is the 3666 which is light yars ahead of its predecessor with the various new steck pieces introduded, the new gate and the round towers . Far far better than any system x castle which in my opinion look absolute rubbish and non realistic at all and the clip castles which are exceptionally limited for customisation and look even less realistic .
The only worthy system for castles and in general that Playmobil has made is Steck. I have steck pieces from 1978/1979 and they still function fine , I wonder how the System x system with all these rubbish plugs will be in 30 or so years. Clip x castles look so unrealistixc their kings quarters are so rubbish in design and aesethetics they remind me of some cheap toys sold in toys fairs made in China
Only Steck is the system that offers excreptionall aesthetics, incredible durability, limiltless customisation. Bring back Steck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS: To answer your question buy a couple of 3666s and a couple of 3667s and/or some loose steck pieces and the possibilites are endless , see some of the custom steck castles here to get an idea how many possibilies one can have .....

i'm not into harry potter but when i read the tittle of this thread i immediatly thought of the new fairy tale castle (disney-looking) that's coming out later this year in Germany :shhhh: ;D
i too vote for steck system though :)
-
I'm aiming to make a Hogwarts (any excuse to buy steck ;D ) and hopefully Hogsmead for the Kirkbean Exhibition in August and I'm using steck, but with a few system x rocks thrown in!

I say steck. The price of steck depends on where you live. I know here in the US, I have paid premium for what I have. I see that some people say they have come across great deals on steck but I have not seen it yet. BTW, the new fairytale castle will look great with a little gray paint.

Anybody in favor of System X?
-
Well.... i'm a fan of system X over steck in general, but I think it has to do with what I'm building. When I'm working on modern structures for my zoo and everything, I find system X easier to use and more practical. However, from what I have seen, I think maybe if I were trying to build a castle, steck would be more practical. So in this case, I think I would vote for steck, even though I prefer system x usually.

System X as bb noted is more versatile in modern projects. But when you want an older feel for castles & medevil projects, you can't go wrong with Steck.

I quite like the new asymetric castles - they look like real castles like the main castle in Neuremberg. The system X castles have the andvantage that they require a lot less assembling (I'm not a builder, so I don't mind having less versatility.)
I do have a lot of steck: at least two complete castles (3666 and 3667), three towers (Schuldturm, 3665 and 4063), a lot of wall/gate sets like the Castle Assault, several other buildings and a lot of spare parts. I really love these sets, but when I moved house 5 years ago I had to take them apart and box them, and I haven't got around to reassembling them - partly becasue I just don't have the time, and partly because I hate building. I also dislike the wobbliness of steck castles, it's not easy to pick them up in large sections and move them without the risk of everything coming apart.

:hmm: :hmm: Last weekend i moved about 70-90cm steck walls without any problems and also a steck building 8 steck lengh and 5 levels up without any problems... i really cant see where the wobbliness is , Sir Berkwit ??? ??? ???

Then I really envy your lack of problems, as I've had quite different experiences, unfortunately. :-\

Hey Linda!
Steck.

And what about Red Eagle Keep (#4866)? Is it Steck or System-X?
And can you add walls and other parts with System-X like you can do with Steck?
-
Hi Luciano. The eagle keep is system X, however I believe it is a new style. You can modify system x. Some fabulous customs have been created using system X, but as you can see, there are advocates for both (with steck lovers being dominant!).
Steck is not easy to come by in my neck of the woods, so it will have to be a slow process. There was a seller on ebay.au recently who was selling a 3666 for $350au - a bit out of my budget. I do live in hope of gathering pieces over time.

I have had too but i carefully select the best of steck joints for large constructions. With the passgae of time i have found that really old ' original' steck can become a bit loose on the 3 way connectors , even angle connectors sometimes and also that the first type of steck fortifications can have problems klicking into place. Mind you out of perhaps 100 old type fortifications i have only about 2 have this problems and out of quite a few hundred of connectors about 3-4 i think. Not a significant number though. To be more presice on your valid concern i builf steck in such a way so that torsional rigidity ensures solid desings ie max number of internal walls....

For me it's also easy to get the newer System-X then Steck. Well, I can get Steck if I don't mind paying a LOT, so Sys-X makes much more sense to me. If I ever get into castles, I definitively will not try to make a huge fortress, but it's nice to know that I can build on and expand a simpler set like Eagle's Keep.
