I notice that most of the time there are twice as many guests as members on any given day?
are these computers searching, unresisted lookers, registered members who wish to remain anonymous, or a combination of all ? or is there no way of even finding out ?

They are unregistered lookers. I believe if there are registered members who wish to remain anonymous,
there is a different message next to the number of users online. :)

Or just people having a look at the forum!
-
how come can there be 'guests' if you can't read the threads/see pictures unless you're a member? ???
-
You can read most of the forum as a guest; only certain areas are off limits. As for pictures, it depends on how you post the pic in the thread. Some of them are visible to non-members.
As far as members, if you are actually logged completely out, you will show up as a guest, and you will not be able to see members-only areas. If you adjust your settings so that you are hidden, you will show up in the who's online area as a hidden member.
I think it has been mentioned before that computers show up as guests sometimes, but I don't think that's usually the case. I think they are just guests who haven't signed up......yet. ;D
-
Sylvia said that they were likely mostly 'bots', here:

Pictures attached can't be seen unless you're logged in.
Pictures inserted with the code (img .. /img) can be seen by anyone, even if not logged in.
(When I publish my stories, I give the link to friends, so that they can take a look, for example ...)
-
Yeah, I use image codes for my posts, just because it's easier, and I was once told by a new member that he had seen pictures of something i had done and it was part of what prompted him to join. ;D So I guess my pics can be seen by guests, which I don't mind at all. If you don't want non members to see your customs, though, you should probably attach the pics instead.
Thanks for the link, Damo. I knew something had been mentioned about this before, I just couldn't remember where.

ahh ohh interesting

Thanks for the answers
If it is possible to see if they are bots would it be possible to see if the others are registered members who are not logged in or non resisted genuine guests ?
There are 450 resisted members and a small percentage of active users. Also some very active users left due to trivial situations that were never resolved. These were large collectors so I hardly see how they would stop due to a spat
-
A lot of members who have left for various reasons still check in as themselves and just don't say anything. When you look at the profile of a certain member, you can see when they were last active. I suppose there may be some who just log out and look in as a guest, but since you can't see everything when looking in as a guest, I would think they would occasionally go ahead and log in and have a look around. I think it would be hard to resist.
I don't think there's any way to tell the difference between a logged out user and an actual unregistered guest. Why do you ask?
-
I browsed for a couple of weeks before registering, and I often have a quick peek at the most recent posts without logging in. Stops me settling at the computer when I am supposed to be doing something else.

OK, I don't actually hate them, but I get very very annoyed with some of the Playmobil trees because every time I pick one up I manage to knock a bit off and I have to put it on again. I'm fine with fir trees and palm trees.
Maybe I should change it to "I have some serious anger issues with certain Playmobil trees"
-
   I had been wondering this too! Now that you say playmobil trees, that makes a little more sense. I was thinking you meant real trees!

Over 120 total of pine trees , large, medium and small, about 30 or so pine trees , i am not sure about magic but round 30 i guess . I am absolutely crazy about these trees and i am ready to put a signature to reflect on that admiration for playmo trees ....

Looks like I have completely hijacked this thread now :-[ It doesn't look as though you have to pick your trees up and put them away every night, Giorginetto. What a collection :)
To further hijack this thread (and this is my last word on the subject of trees), your photo somehow put me in mind of this TV advert which we have here .... it's one of my favourites and should make you smile http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQBANqzqAgA&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQBANqzqAgA&feature=related)

I hope i havent been misunderstood, I can get very sensitive when it comes to trees actually, i find it very upsetting and disturbing whats been happening to forests from a very young age . My family and i have always supported tree planting and have funded over many years such efforts to plant more trees and we are continuing to do so. I shall stop here as this has nothing to do with playmo trees and i hope i havent upset anyone in any way
-
I'm with you on that, George. The deforestation that goes on all over the world these days is sickening.
I'm so glad to hear you only hate playmobil trees and not real trees, Bad Mum!
-
Hijacking termites :P
Rather than talking about de-forestation you can make a real difference by not buying any paper/cardboard products, never build a fence, or a wood structure, never use firewood, get rid of your rotting wooden house especially do not buy wood furniture of any kind, its a long long list of how much our civilization relies on wood products. Just look at all the wood Playmobil uses for their packages that end up in most collectors garbage cans.
It sure wood be nice to have more real trees around shading our earth
Our playmobil trees rely on the exploration of new oil wells and that is not the most environmentally friendly venture either
Nice forest by the way George, the second picture looks more like a commercial tree farm though
-
For the record, all my playmobil boxes and bags go in the recyling bin, not the garbage can. 0)
;)

... I spent about 2 hours making all these trees and these awful pictures dont really show the small and medium size pine trees or the magic trees which are also many more that i havent set up yet. I am already having a massive problem with space , god know how i will set it all up but one way or another you shall all see a playmobil massive forrest with lots of trees and animals and magic in it ... !!!
-
Giorginetto - I followed a link through to your collection of Romans earlier*. They clearly outnumber the trees - I too would be worried about space :-[ I think if I need any space here, I will get rid of anything that doesn't possess a hard flat surface. I can't display Playmobil on the sofa, for example.
As for my boxes, the Playmobil ones go up in the loft for ever, boxes for things with guarantees go in the loft until the guarantee runs out, and it (along with cans, paper, textiles and some plastic) gets put out for the recycling lorry every other Thursday.
I never really considered the origins of our little plastic pals though. The modern world would stop turning without oil, although I'm no expert on how environmentally unfriendly oil extraction is (with the exception of pollution incidents).
Hijacking threads. Whatever next :toot:
*Amendment - since I posted this, I hve now read about Giorginetto's shopping trip 8}

Very good,bb! But I need to convince you to keep all of your PM packaging ;)! There's presently a contest between local high schools here that are going through a land fill, & resorting garbage into recycling areas. They interviewed one young girl showing a black plastic bag full of plain white typing paper weighing quite a bit, thrown into the land fill pit that they moved to a paper recycling area. They were all dressed in Haz Mat suits, gloves, & masks while working for a month to see how much of a difference each class could make, & the winner would be by weight salvaged.
-
That sounds like a cool project. Some of my best memories of my teenage years are from a few days spent in a huge construction dumpster, sorting garbage. No joke, I'm serious. But it's a long story.
-
We have to sort our own into the right bags/boxes or they won't take it away.
I bet our good old UK health and safety laws wouldn't let school kids within 100 yards of the tip. Sounds like a useful project.
-
so..... what was this thread about? :toot: :toot:
-
 Thread? What thread?
-
Well its about making a difference . Use less wood and keep your playmobil boxes ::) and you better have some good suggestions, after all there are a lot of guests watching ;)

so..... what was this thread about? :toot: :toot:
Guests :hmm:
But a as playmoFRIENDS forum, this forum has been getting each day more and more of the inclination to stray threads into random funny conversation ... Which is good thing, by the way, I guess ::)
:P
-
well I for one and easily distracted by shiny smiling plastic objects ;)
-
Wow there are more users than guests right now :confetti: 20 users and only 19 guests
-
Yeah, I noticed that, too! There's a LOT of people online.
