When Karim asked for guests for his Summer Garden Party, I decided that if I was to send someone down to Windsor it should be a Scotsman and his wife.
I have always wanted to make a Scotsman in a kilt using just Playmobil parts + glue and paint.
Until now I haven't really had the chance to spend much time doing this, but the garden party provided the excuse.
I haven't finished his wife yet, but I'm so excited at having finished my Scotsman that I just have to post pictures of him now :-[
So, here is Lord Hamish McAngus of Barnhourrie - a descendant of the famous jouster and poet Sir Fergus McAngus....

and a few close ups....

The only problem is that I glued his sporran in place, then found he couldn't sit down! However as the ladies in the large skirts who attend the garden party can't sit down either, he'll be in good company!
Hope you like him.

Well done!!!!!!
I love the color palette!
how did you make the skirt? ???
-
Oh, Elaine, he is so wonderful :yippee: I think Playmobil should buy the design from you because I imagine everyone else will want one just like him
-
He is great Elaine, when I read the name I had a chuckle and you followed it up in style...nice touch.
The details are very wel done and the colour are indeed a great match.
Thanks so much. For some reason I find it EXTREMELY awesome that you managed to link the WJT and the SGP (Summer Garden Party) like this :-)

Thank you Bonnie, Gaston Jenna and Gis :thanks:
Gaston, I made the skirt by cutting down a lady's long skirt and cutting down a plain pair of a man's legs and sanding them at the top so they would just fit inside the skirt space.
I then used a plastic repair material called Plastex to fill the gap and hold the legs in place.
It took a lot of tries to get the legs so that they would just hold inside the skirt.
Here is a view of where the legs join (I did apologise to him for looking up his kilt!)
I tried to sand the extra bits down a bit, but I think it still makes him look as though he has knobbly knees!

Gis - I couldn't call him anything else ;D
Oh I forgot to mention that his kilt is based on a tartan called 'Pride of Scotland'

I was thinking of the same way to make him
when I first saw your Scotsman.
I may not make my Kilts like this in future,
But I think you for the tip. :hatoff:

Great work, Elaine, truly excellent. With his big moustache he reminds me of a friend of mine called John Melanaphy who I yhink has Scots blood - certainly he goes to Burns' Night and likes whisky!
-
He is superb, Elaine! :wow: :wow: :wow:
I like his kilt very much :yup: and very clever, too! :)9

His kilt is beautiful! You must have the patience of a saint to be able to paint plaid. I get lost trying to remember which color is going over and which one is going under. :)
-
He is fabulous Elaine! I was at a Scottish wedding on Saturday and the men all wore kilts.
-
great figure with great personnality , congratulation !

elaine
he looks great. i love the work you did on his kilt, painting plaid is very complex. i also like the colors you chose for the rest of his outfit. he looks like quite a character, and i am sure he will charm all of the ladies standing around at the party.

¿Is his kilt a skirt? (I assume it’s from the Romans series.)
-
Thank you all :thanks:
To be honest, painting the tartan wasn't as difficut as I thought it would be. I painted the kilt blue first, then using a very fine brush I added purple stripes down and across, then just kept addding green, white and lilac lines until it looked as though some lines went under others and gave the general impression of tartan.
Emma, I'm planning on adding some tartan to his wife's dress, but haven't finished yet.
Andy - I described how it was made earlier by using a lady's skirt cut down - I don't think there are skirts in the Roman series are there?

My bad. I must have missed it. I thought you might have used a Roman Soldier (part #3Ø ØØ 27Ø2), but after checking PM DB I realized it wasn’t possible.

Darkness!
