Title: Just curious about 4211 Snow white set
Post by: Playmoholics on January 30, 2011, 20:17:26
So, I saw this set on Ridge Road Station a couple months ago and I didn't buy it even though I really wanted it. I just assumed that I could get it next time! Now it is almost impossible to find  My story does end happily though, I just purchased a set from Germany on ebay  :yippee:, but I was just wondering if any of you knew why it is suddenly so difficult to find  :eh?:

Just another general question: Aaron and I have been on a ridiculous PM buying binge since November and I want to stop, or at least contain it better, because the rational side of my brain is telling me that there are more "responsible" uses for our income. Does it ever stop?  8} Does anyone have any tips on keeping this addiction under control  :prays:

Sorry Jenna, I have no sane advise to give  ;D I cant contain myself

But, you can control your urges if you prioratise which sets you need the most, categorise them according to your interests, likes and dislikes, be sure you concentrate more on the themes you like/love the most. Most certainly, if you want to complete a whole theme, buy each set x1 first and then move to the next. As time goes by and resources permit it, you can buy a second or third time the set you love/need the most...

As for 4211 (I took the liberty of correcting the number as you had typed 2411) these fairy tale book sets were only available for a year and probably parents have bought a lot for their children. Who wouldn't love to re-enact Hansel and Gretel, or Snowhite, or Cinderella for their kids? These are sets that a parent can use to spend some really quality time with their kids. As for collectors, these sets were greatly sought after for their unique parts and klickies  ;D

I'm sorry to say that professional intervention is the only cure! I've been involved with Playmobil since 1998 with brief periods of stopping, but you always find yourself returning,........& trying to catch up 8}! As Panos has said, the story book sets have parts that are unique & much sought after by collectors & customisers! I have found the glass coffin from the Snow White set is an excellent touch for sad photo stories :sorrow:. BTW, procrastination is a horrible thing that causes new problems like what you have just gone through! :omg:

The Hansel and Gretel set never sold well - at least in Canada, and can be found in quite a few shops still.  I don't know if there was just an inordinate amount of Hansel and Gretel sets compared to Cinderella and Snow White, but ...

If you got the Snow White set, you need to get the other two and you need to get the DS set of 5 dwarves - the 4211 only comes with 2.

I think Playmobil takes their extra stock and hides it for a year or two after the stuff disappears off the shelves (giving it time to do so) and then uses employees to put the extra stock on ebay one set at a time over the next few years at an highly inflated price so the company can make even more money!   :loco:

The 3 sets are discontinued since almost a year now in Germany. We had sales, but there only snow white and Hänsel and Gretel appeared, Cinderella was not available and is not available in the DS-catalogue, too, although the other 2 sets are.

Taming the madness of buying is always a problem! And unfortunately I'm not very good at taming it.  :-[ I maintain a wishlist on playmobil of current sets, of course, and I keep a list of things I'm looking for on ebay. I try to prioritize them by importance to me, and for the playmobil.com list, by what's likely to be discontinued the soonest. What really messes me up, though is when I decide to go to TRU or some other toy store, and once I'm there I get to looking at something that isn't even on my wishlist! If I buy it, then it cuts into my budget for the things I had really wanted to get first. So aside from finding good sales or great deals, i try not to actually buy at toystores much, unless the item really is one of my top priorities on my list. I try to just plan ahead what to buy when on playmobil, and then IF i find one of the things I'm looking for on ebay at a reasonable price, then I make adjustments on my other list.

Well I am downsizing my collection, but yesterday I went out and came back with another mother and father of all hauls (I will post pics when I have gone to sleep and woken up again ;))

I am a student, learning to drive, trying to fund important things, but unfortunately that Playmobil buying bug just won't go away, and in the end you just have to give in ;)

Damo :)

Thanks for correcting my typo Wolf Knight  :-[

And thank you everyone for your advice! It is so difficult because my rational side and my  8} Playmobil side are constantly battling with one another, but then it is difficult when I want something and don't get, but then regret it later, like in this situation. So in the end I end up paying more after it's too late, because ultimately I just have to have it anyway  ::)

I think Damo is right and I just have to give in to it. It makes me happy and it's not hurting anything (except perhaps "the wallet"). Or am I just rationalizing it?

Hopefully I can still find the dwarfs  ;)

Are these the Dwarfs you're looking for?

http://www.ridgeroadstation.com/store/2537849%21253/7849+Playmobil+5+Dwarfs

If they are the ones you're looking for, may I give some advice? Get them! LOL! I was like you, looking at sets on RS and then some time later, I went back, & missed out on them.....Errrrr...they were the Medieval Timbered houses, and boy, I regret not getting them....  :'(

Ain't nothin' wrong with that  >:D Truthfully I have some dragon knight stuff on order for him and the Snow White & castle are my presents. We've already gone WAY overboard this week (well, this year  :o), so that's why I'm hesitating ordering the dwarfs. I suppose we have to eat, too  ::)
Title: Re: Just curious about 4211 Snow white set
Post by: bonniebeth on January 31, 2011, 05:34:28
Yeah, but the dwarfs are just a little thing...How much food can you buy for that?
Title: Re: Just curious about 4211 Snow white set
Post by: Playmoholics on January 31, 2011, 05:39:09
Yes, but if I get them from RRS it is free shipping on orders over $40.00, so I'd be silly if I didn't order MORE  ;)

It's weird, but I measure the cost of anything by how much Playmobil I could buy. If Aaron wants to go out to dinner for example, I always think about how much Playmobil we could buy instead
Title: Re: Just curious about 4211 Snow white set
Post by: bonniebeth on January 31, 2011, 05:41:46
That's not weird at all.  ;D Really it isn't!

No seriously, eating out and playmo may both technically be a waste of money. But after eating out, what so you have to show for it? A bigger waist line? With playmo, at least it makes you happy!

We need to start a Playmobil commune so we can all live together in a toy community & if someone doesn't like our rules, they're outta here! Everyone would be able to give support to each others Playmobil beliefs! ;D

If you're "hesitating" on buying the dwarfs, this is not the place to look for the answer, food must come first!  :P

It's like someone who has given up chocolate chip cookies.....you log onto here, and we're all sitting here with chocolate chip cookies going, "here, take one, you know you want one!"

...and, yes, it only makes sense to order more than $40, to save on shipping.....like you said Jenna, Valentine's Day is coming up and nothing says "I love you" like the gift of Playmobil!

Ha
So true. The real problem for me comes in when I make an exception in my budget for something else - like planning a trip, and then the trip falls through. Even though I hadn't even saved the money yet all of a sudden I start thinking...well if I took the money (I don't have) I was going to spend on the trip (I'm not taking) then I could buy these cool Playmo items. It's when I start acting on that kind of thinking I get into trouble.  :o
