Word has spread through the Kingdom of Rutileo of the Great tourney of Winterhaven.
His Grace, Aun Kerac, had proclaimed he himself would go and win victory in the tournament,
But before he could leave, a large band of rebels sprang up in the center of the Kingdom.
Aun Kerac left Ostadt Castle and hurried his army south to meet the rebel threat.
However, during the course of battle,
after Aun Kerac charged the enemies with his own guard, a mace met his leg
and he fell from his horse wounded and unable to walk, and ride only a little.
So he had to withdraw from the tournament when Lord Etir suggested
his Grace let him fight in his stead as champion of the realm, as his father had once been.
Aun Kerac had, before he left the kingdom years previous, been a good fried of Etir's father,
And thus decided that Etir would do their country honor in joining the Tourney.
Thus Etir met his King,
(http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/8867/001phs.jpg)
"My Grace," the Lord began, bowing, "Why hast thou called me before thy presence?"
"Lord Etir, faithful servant of thy King," the King boomed,
"Thou camest to be but a few days previous to ask if you may enter the tournament on my behalf.
Though I was at first wary, I mean not to offend you, but I myself had my heart set on entering the lists.
However, God seems to have deemed such action against me,
and I must enjoy watching in the stands instead, as it seems that is his will.
"Therefor, I have decided," the King finished, "to allow you to enter the tournament on my behalf.
take my shield, so all may know you fight not just for me, but for your country."
I thank you my King for considering me worthy," Lord Etir replied bowing.
"I shall accompany you to the tournament," Aun Kerac said.
"It has been many long years since I last visited Winterhaven...
Methinks it is time to join some old friends there.
"My son Richard shall continue to maintain the Kingdom in my stead," Aun Kerac announced, then said,
"We leave at dawn the day after next Etir, be prepared to go in haste."
"As you will my King," Richard, and Etir chorused.
The following day went by without incident,
and as it was scheduled the King and his subject Etir met at the docks during the sunrise.
"You Grace, where is your vanguard?" The Lord Etir asked as he walked the length of the docks towards his king.
"There will be no need for such formalities," Aun Kerac replied,
"I know the land well, and I am assured in your skills as well as my own,
that should some misfortune befall us, such as rebels or briggards, we though few will be enough to drive them off.
Besides Etir, we will be traveling through friendly territory. There will be no conflict."
So the King stated, and his vassal could not persuade him otherwise.
And so the King Aun Kerac, and his champion Etir struck out for Winterhaven
aboard their mighty vessel, manned only by a few men.
To be continued... :)
(Sorry this story may take so long to tell that I may still be telling it

So we find our heroes, riding on an apparent road, meant for Winterhaven. As the road becomes harder to travel, and the woods around it more dense, the Lord Etir rides forth to travel alongside his master.
“My Lord,” Etir Sayest asks, “Be you sure that your eyes do not deceive you, and your memory still serves? For with all my heart I will believe you if you but say so. However, if you are not as sure as I have put forth you to be, tell me, for these look not like the woods to Winterhaven. And I fear we may have taken a wrong turn in past intersections of the road.”
“Foolish,” says the King, “as it is, I may have to forfeit this quest and hopefully return to the port we landed in and receive directions from them. For it is true, these woods are unknown to me as well.”
Vassal of the King, Etir bows in his saddle and said, “Then methinks we should return at once, as these woods are foreboding and there is an uneasy rustling in the leaves ‘round.”
Alas, though, as the good King Aun Kerac turns to lead his horse back, the two are surrounded by a band of cut-throats.
“Get them!” Shouts the leader of the group, and his men rush forward with spears and maces.
Honorably those of Rutileo fight, even the King with his wound is still more than a match for the briggards.
His sword swings high, and all the men duck, but few are fast enough to duck in time, as the king was trained by masters of the art, and even among Kings he is renowned as an excellent Warrior.
His lord, Etir, fights as bravely, many times risking his life for his King. Boldly he rides his horse into the mass of men, one against many, surrounding him. And still he falls not.
But as more and more of the highwaymen charge forth, the Lord and his King begin to fail. Both are tired from their long journey of riding, and though the King is still a force to be reckoned with, his wound at last gives up his strength.
The Lord falls from his saddle, and Etir dismounts to defend him. The King slowly rises to help, but even though he can block a few hits from the cut-throats his leg burns as he attempts to put weight on it. Were he in fair health the battle may have come out differently, but as it were, it was only a matter of time before the two fell defeated to the ground.
The men make quick work of tying their hands, and then lead them to their leader.
Aun Kerac looks up at him with a piercing glare and asks, “Know you who I am?”
But their leader replies infuriatingly,
“I do, you are a fool, a fool for coming out here undefended. Take them away.”
The King of Rutileo makes and attempt at the leader of the cut-throats but he is held back by the lord Etir. “Not now Sire,” the lord commands. “There will be another time when we can avenge what has been wronged.”
The King bows his head, understanding, however reluctantly.
The Briggard smiles, “And what is this?” He asks, reaching for the crown of Rutileo.
This time the King is not held back, as he returns the insult he had before received and this new insult with a sound bash of his fists onto the highwayman’s helm. So great was his hit that the helm lifts off the man’s head and breaks the leather strap under his chin, falling to the ground.
Glaring at the King the leader of the band debates as to trying to grab the crown again, but thinks better of it. Without the helm, he may well bash in his skull from a hit as such.
Slowly the two are marched through the woods, and as they come to a clearing they spot at the back edge of the clearing and small fort, with walls built into the rock behind it.
“Welcome,” the rebel lord shouts at the two knights with a laugh, for it was indeed that he was a rebel soldier of the kingdom, “to your new home, as long as we need keep you that is.”
The two Rutilians were lead to a corner of the fort, and watched over by a guard. Their food was poor, and the water was stale, but the two men were hungry and the King forgot his pride for the moment as he filled himself.
Then they sat and waited to see their fate, observing closely at what was happening around them.

Thank you Justindo, I hope I live up to your expectations.
Sorry for the delay, here is the next chapter. :)
Behold, night falls, and Aun Kerac and Lord Etir sit silently in the corner of the fort, for the king has instructed his vassal to wait until he feels the moment right to break free of the hidden base. As dawn is fast approaching Lord Etir turns to his king and says,
“When sire shall we make our move? The light of day will dash our hope of escape, and who should know but God what these cutthroats might decide to do to us. Now may be our only chance.”
The wise king nods, and speaks, “That be true. Methinks now is our opportune time. For the night as you so say if near over, and their guard is down. The men are tired, and the light of their torches burns their eyes, causing their vision failing. We shall move, follow me.”
The King and his knight rise silently, disturbing not the atmosphere of the courtyard. Lord Etir crouches, and reaches for a vandal’s spear.
“Nay,” says the King, grabbing his arm, “He will miss such an object. Besides, we shall not be able to carry it.”
Stealthily the king moves towards the keep of the fort. His servant follows him, but is unable to keep as silent as his lord.
“How can you move softer then the wind,” he whispers.
“When I was young,” the King replies, “I sometimes needed to get out of such situations. I have learned from those experiences.”
When they reach the keep Etir once more stops his master, “Sir, should we not head for the gate? Will this not lead us farther into the fortress, with no hope of escape?” he asks.
“Etir,” sighs the King, “How should you hope to get through? Look at the courtyard; it is full of the followers. And the gate is guarded well, our old guards are close by, and the man who defends the entrance holds a torch. Unlike our guards though, he switches with the others, and his eyes will not be blinded by the torch. Whereas here we might not escape, but we can hide, and they shall think we have. Besides, the guard here sleeps, it will be easy.”
And so the two pass through the entrance to the keep, and Etir glances at the guard as he follows his King.
When the two enter the keep, they hide behind the door and take stock of the inner castle.
“Where is their leader?” Asks Etir.
“He must be up in a higher level, he will own his own room and will be asleep.” Aun Kerak replies.
“Now look for a good hiding spot or even if you find one, an escape,” says Aun, and they begin their search round the keep.
The keep itself is not man made, but only the entrance. The rest of the keep is of natural stone, and dense forest, too dense for a man to enter. They look, but find no exit.
Suddenly, Etir feels a tap on his shoulder.
“Look,” whispers his king, for the sounds outside the keep grow louder, and the light around them brighter. “There in the rock be a small cave, we shall hide in there.”
The king slips himself in just as the briggards enter the keep, looking for the two and to receive new instructions of their lord.
One continues upstairs to the chambers of the rebel leader.
“My lord,” his unfortunately young voice can be heard from where Aun Kerac and Etir sit.
“The prisoners have escaped, we know not how…”
“Fools!” shouts the leader as he rises from his bed and dons his armor. “The master will be most displeased, hurry, we must find them!”
He races downstairs, and leads his men out the fort.
“By the grace of the almighty, let us head out my lord,” Etir exclaims, but Aun Kerac shakes his head.
“It is not over yet Etir my friend,” he says, with a worried look on his face.
“What do you mean sire?” asks his vassal.
“This master the rebel speaks of,” Aun Kerac murmurs, half to himself. “This was planned, and I fear this be only the beginning.” He looks up again. “Fetch our weapons, our shields, and find some horses if you can. We will set forth for Winterhaven immediately, and put as much distance between ourselves and this place as we can. I shall collect other gear we may need, but we must travel light.”
So Etir does as was commanded of him, while Aun sets forth to find supplies. All the while going over what the rebel said, and wondering what and who this master is.
To be continued… :)

Great stuff, I'm glad you're continuing on with the story
-
Thanks Tim,
Now still on with the story. ;D
Etir and his lord Aun Kerac quickly leave the fort and begin tracking the rebels, following their steps. It is at this point Etir asks Aun,
“Why follow them my lord? Surely we can just continue to Winterhaven now we are free?”
Au n shakes his head. “Nay Etir,” he says, “We cannot go until we know the plans of these robbers, for should they be planning an attack on Winterhaven we must know of it.”
“But why would they attack Winterhaven?” asks his vassal.
“Because Etir,” Aun sighs, “The jousting tournament is a special event. There will be kings and nobles from near every Kingdom in the known world. And our capture was meaningful, they were not just some random robbers, if they were they would not have held us captive. Therefore I can only believe there is some other force at work here and my suspicions are confirmed by what their leader said in the keep, that ‘The master will not be pleased.’”
“You then believe that it is one of the kings who wishes to destroy this event?” asks Etir, shocked.
“We shall soon find out,” Aun says, “there is the band we are tracking.” And with that, Aun holds out his hand and points into the trees.
There the rebels march, and the glint of steel can just be seen through the thick forestation.
“Let us hurry,” says Aun, “Night is falling, and we will not be able to keep them in sight after dark.”
So the two follow the band. Aun makes no sound, and travels head. While Etir stayes behind, holding the horse. All the while Aun contemplates where they are going.
When the rebels do finally stop, it is just before sundown. They arrive in a clearing and begin to make camp. Aun signals Etir forward.
“We shall make camp as well, but through the forest behind us so we will not be seen,” he says. And so the two trek back to another clearing, though much smaller, and set up their own camp.
Etir disappears for a moment, and returns with wood, but Aun holds up his hand.
“We cannot afford a fire,” he says, “They will see the light through the trees.”
“But what of food? And warmth?” asks Etir.
“Prepare for a hard night Etir,” says Aun standing.
I shall take the first watch. And with that, he takes his place at the tree line.
By the light of the moon, he contemplates where they are traveling too, and who might be trying to destroy the tournament.
To be continued.

Thank you Justindo,
I hope you like this next part...
Early the next morning the two awake and return to the clearing, where the band is preparing for breakfast.
“It looks like we have time,” says Aun, “Go collect some wood and I shall find us some food.”
As Etir returns to camp, Aun heads around the clearing, remaining hidden in the tree line. At the other end of the clearing, next to the men’s breakfast table there lays a bow and quiver of arrows. Stealthily the King approaches the weapon, making no sound as he nears the men, who have their backs to him.
He takes the bow, but as he is turning away he catches a glimpse of a conversation between two of the rebels.
“To think we would be working for them! Were we not their slaves just years ago?” One of the men says as he sips his drink. “Still,” he says, “they pay well… and if they keep their promise all of Belathre will be ours!”
“Agreed,” grunts the other man, “if they keep their promise.”
“So I thought!” thinks Aun, “Another force is at work here. But to claim all of Belathre? That is a large goal! Who could accomplish such a task?” So are his thoughts as he leaves the camp, and returns to his own clearing.
Etir looks up to see the king dragging a whole bear carcass toward their camp.
“My lord!” he exclaims, “there are but two of us, we cannot eat a whole bear. Was it not wasteful to take such a shot?”
“It was against my will to do so,” Aun said, “But it had blocked my path, and I came upon it unexpectedly. It was frightened by my presence, and therefore took a hostile stance towards me. Had I not killed him, he might have done so to me.”
“What is done is done,” says Etir and takes the bear from Aun, preparing to cut him open. But try as he might, he cannot stick the bear.
“Hear,” says Aun, “use mine.”
After they finish eating and storing as much of the bear as they can, they return to the camp to find them just finished breakfast. The rebels snow stand around the clearing, while their leader seem to be waiting.
Suddenly, something catches the gaze of the leader of the rebels. Aun follows his gaze, and sees in the tree a raven. The raven looks at the rebels, and then takes off west.
“Come,” shouts the leader, and the men file after him.
“We shall move too,” says Aun, and he and Etir begin to follow the group again.
To be continued.
