Title: WJT - Parade (and general thread)
Post by: Gis on January 14, 2011, 02:29:22
It’s a beautiful day in Winterhaven, ever since this morning people have been gathering in front of the city gates where the field has been prepared for the much anticipated Jousting Tournament.

When the afternoon is halfway, slowly some of the officials of Winterhaven come out of the gates and take place on one of the three special pavilions that have been erected. When these people have found their place, the town Herald as well is the Royal Herald come out and announce the visiting royals, who then find their way to their appointed seats. Finally the royal family comes out of the city, much cheering and loud applause follows them. A special platform has been erected for The King where he has a perfect view of the jousting. On the platform he is flanked by the Crystal Guard and Vanidel Borgstrom, the bard of Winterhaven.

To his left (right for the viewer) is Aun Kerac, King of Rutileo. Last time he visited Winterhaven he was still a lot younger, but the people still remember him and his companions for the many good deeds they did in the region. The family of King Darnald sits to the left of King Aun, first Queen Roselinde, then her sister Queen Violet of Belathre, followed by Prince Tom and Princess Silvy. Queen Violet was supposed to sit in the chair next to her husband, King Leopold of Belathre, but Prince Tom was so insistent to sit next to his favorite aunt that this arrangement was made. As King Leopold had many matters of state to discuss with several of the heads of state present at the tournament this was an acceptable solution.

In the pavilion to the right of King Darnald are, Baron Arnold of Fallcrest, Sir Alarch and Suldy, an anonymous ambassador of an eastern empire and King Leopold. The relationship with Baron Arnold are very tense as he rules Fallcrest with an iron fist. However he demanded a seat of honour as the King had waived all arguments for the duration of the Jousting Tournament.

In the pavilion across the jousting area sit from left to right: Rinald, the city treasurer, Lady Eilaga the Swift, a close friend of Valthrun the prescient who sits next to her. Next to him sits King Keavak the Just Ruler of Gyrtan, Lady Eilaga is his adviser, so when Valthrun told her about the Tournament she asked the king if she could come. The king agreed and he himself decided to join with his kids, who sit behind him. Next to King Keavak sits Grandmaster Theodoric.

Behind Grandmaster Theodoric sits, Crown Prince  Leonan of Gyrtan, flanked by his sister Princess Fhaella. Mayor Paelik specifically wanted to sit on the backrow because he felt he would have a better overview there and also sit next to Sir Carl brother to Sir Richard who will be participating in the Jousting Tournament. Finally we have Kialto the town crier.

While everyone was taking their places the Royal Herald and City Herald are accompanied by Yeoman Hank of Salish on the roof of the viewing tent straight across from the city gate. When they get a signal to signify everyone has found their seats they sound their trumpets! As everyone goes quite the King rises from his throne

“Ladies and Gentleman, thank you all for coming here today. Because of Winterhaven’s 100th  birthday we will hold, as you all well know, a Jousting Tournament! For this tournament the best 32 knights from around the globe have gathered here and will be introduced to you in a parade today. Tonight we will have a big party and tomorrow the actually jousting will start. The jouster randomly drew a number and they will come out in that order. Every for subsequent jousters, will form a Group in the tournament. So let the games begin!” With that he points to the Winterhaven’s Main Gate.

Slowly the gate opens and the first knights are seen. The heralds start again with their trumpets.

As the parade slowly start winding their way down the jousting area Princess Silvy waves with her shawl to all the participants.

Seeing the knights marching on the field is already very impressive and we’re only half way

Seeing all the knights on the field is an impressive sight!

The maneuvering is sometimes not as easy with all the armour work by the horses as well as the riders.

As Sir Enök passes by the Royal Pavillion, Princess Silvy gets up and motions for him to stop. Shyly she ties her shawl on his lance and quickly gets seated again.

Sir Enök is very proud and holds his lands and banner higher than before. He is radiating an energy that will surely bring him some victories. Let’s hope that energy is still there tomorrow.

The knights slowly make their way back to the city gates and the field slowly becomes more serene.

The King stands again: “Citizens, in front of the guard tower a gigantic scoreboard has been put up. Here you can already see which matches will be played tomorrow! Please have a great feast tonight and I am sure I will see you all in the morrow! “

I sit back in my stand, and smile as the champion of our realm Etir saddles forth.
I stop him quickly and say to him,

"Fail us not, though I would'st put my life on your blade.
Know you I would be out there were it not for my leg..."
I glance quickly at my leg which had been shattered by a mace in a recent battle between rebels.
"So," I say turning back to Lord Etir, "You fight as I. Do well by my name."

My knight turns to me and bows his head. "I shall your Grace."
(Your Grace is how Kings were refereed to before Henry the 8th)

I nod, satisfied that Etir shall bring honor, if not victory to the field of combat.
A man of few words, Lord Etir pushes his horse forward and leaves with the rest of the knights.

(I will get my story fore these guys out today, if not tomorrow Gis! )

Before we start with the official Jousting Matches today the tournament will be opened by Prince Tom and Sir Merriadoc!

Here we see Sir Merriadoc up close, getting ready for the first pass.

Young Prince Tom is quite overwhelmed when he sees the size of the field and the number of onlookers.

And there they go, the horses gaining momentum!

Prince Tom manages to sneak his lance on the inside of Sir Merriadoc’s shield and scores a body hit. With that the opening match is finished and they ride up to the King's Throne!

The King then loudly proclaims, with this I declare that the Jousting Tournament has officially started!

Apologies for the hold up.

After all the matches for the day are done. The scoreboard is changed so that all the matches for the following day are clearly seen!

With Sir Sigismund likely to get knocked on his keester in the next round, I'd just like to say thanks again to Gis for putting in 99% of the effort in designing, organising, photographing, running, and frankly BEING this Tournament, to the 1% combined required from the rest of us.

Phew, I'm exhausted just keeping up with the latest results!

I'm late posting, but I'm amazed with what Gis has accomplished!  This tournament is awesome in both its ambition and its execution!  From the excellent closeup photography and blow by blow narration of the joust to the beautiful setting with its magnificent scenery, castle, and spectators, I'm in awe and truly impressed.  Thank you, Gis! :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:

Evenings in Winterhaven have been very busy. The Jousting tournament has really brought a lot of life to the city.

Now that the first round is over some of the eliminated combatants can be found drinking a beer in the Mug & Swords.

Sir William, Sir Enök and Sir Cecil are enjoying the nice local beer, going over their matches and who they think will win the tournament. Then a messenger arrives.

Sir Enök, I have two messages for you. Please get back to them shortly; people are eagerly awaiting your answers.

Activity is all around town, but this meeting must have also been something very special. Vanidel was clearly searching for someone and lit up when he saw Sir Fergus. Unfortunately no one was able to hear what they were discussing.

The atmosphere in Winterhaven is great and people are eagerly looking forward to the continuation of the tournament.

I will post the pictures/results of the first eight single elimination matches tomorrow night.

There will be a general feast in Winterhaven after the event is done. But I will just show pictures of the Royal Banquet held at the same time. Still have to shoot so many pictures that I am afraid I will need to postpone that too next week though.

Lots of stuff happening outside of the playmo world this weekend. So I didnt have time to set the stage for the Banquet :-(

So the final installment of the WJT will be next weekend...my apologies...

It does give more time to do information gathering :-)
