Title: Displays
Post by: playmoed on January 05, 2011, 16:59:19
Although I did not want to post here anymore I thought what the heck it's a new year. I have been collecting Playmobil for many years (mostly 'mint in box' sets) but I also have an extensive collection of shop display and other merchandising articles. I wanted to start of with a couple of things, I hope you like it:

Hi,

Mostly cardboard displays which could be displayed in shops (mostly attached to walls). The Wella Display was only available in barber shops where the 2 Playmobil figures were giveaways with the purchase of a product like Wella shampoo etc.. This display is from is very sturdy cardboard and neatly folds out. The Animal display is from the eighties.

Hi

Well even though you did not want to post in here anymore some of us appreciate the fact that you did as we do not get to see or even know these exist. Many of our brick and mortar shops in the US have close up and we do not have a rich history with Playmobil. Our local shop has 3 stores and all they get for displays is the 5 foot Klickies. The diorama displays and signs are more rare.

Thanks for sharing

wow, that is quite a collection.  how do you ever store so much stuff?   thank you for posting these photos, those of us here in the states will not likely ever see any of these pieces, as our stores do not have the major displays that your shops have in europe.  unfortunately in the us, playmobil is frequently crammed onto a shelf, near the legos, but behind all of the inexpensive lasts-for-two-weeks -if -you-are-lucky poorly made non-thinking  toys we seem to have in our american toy markets.   the few stores that feature the beautiful craftsmanship and quality of european toys are struggling to stay alive.

your giant klicky collection is very impressive.  my favorite is the little girl in the traditional mini skirt.  she has always been my favorite.

Thanks for sharing more of you unique collection of Playmobil items. Great stuff that few actually collect in such quantity

They look great and in such good condition. The large Klickies in the stores here must fall over a lot as in a few months they are all cracked up

Although I have a terrible flu, I somehow don't have the patience to lie in bed all day and 'sick' it out so to say. So I post some pictures to get me distracted  :D I also need to go to the garage where some more displays are including a horse (poor thing). In the meantime enjoy the mess in my 'treasure room'  :)

Hi

Oh now that is a treasure room for this crowd . The building on the floor either is a really neat custom or not Playmobil at all

We from time to time get small plexi-glass displays at TRU and I wondered where they go. I used to ask about getting them but I never get a straight answer. Looks like you figured it out

Thanks for sharing your stash

Hi,

No it's Emma's beautiful 'Clue' house, but I simply have too many 'mint in box' sets in this 'little' space, so I really need to clean up. Emma's Clue House deserves a much better place, but in the meantime it has to stay there  :(. If anyone is interested in some close-ups from my room, than please let me know and I will go upstairs and shoot some more pics.

very impressive collection Eddy - it reminds me of Gassy's collection (just a little bit more organized - just kidding Mariano :P)

I too am into MIB sets (I do open mine eventually though ;)) and playmobil promotional items, like cups, keychains, clothes, books, etc etc...I love to see I'm not the only crazy person trying to get non-toys playmobil items

I see you have impossible to get sets, like that old blue western bank and the japanese roller coaster :o 8-)

I just saw you're on facebook and that you live in Germany (oops yes, I'm very nosey :-[ :P) - no wonder why you have such a complete and beautiul collection.

I hope you get better soon but don't wait til you're sick again to share your collection with us please ;D

Hi Luis,

Mariano (Gassy) is a great guy, he has visited me twice for a little Playmobil Collector's meeting at my house. I am Dutch, but I live in Germany since 3 years. To tell you the truth, very little of my collection comes from Germany, old toystores have disappeared and the ones that still had old Playmobil have been plundered by dealers. I have been lucky a couple of times in Spain and The Netherlands, but most of my collection comes from auction sites. Like you I also collect promotional items like giveaways, keychains, calendars etc. etc. I also have an extensive collection of rare dealer catalogs.

Hi Kaethe,

I never stopped being a child and being a child from the seventies (1970 to be exact) Playmobil was the only toy I wanted. I even remember getting the first blisterpacks in 1974 and now 36 years later I got them again  :D. MIB collectors are a rare breed, a lot of people don't understand that I won't open my boxes (although I have some loose Playmobil as well), but to me the old boxes (with the beautiful dioramas on the backside of the boxes) are 'sacred'. You can call me a 'nostalgist', time is flying, so if I can relive my childhood a bit through collecting than that gives me a pretty good feeling

Greetings,

Eddy

Eddy
I think we are all of the same mind, except that my children were born in the 70s and I can remember getting their first happy meal toys.  We never let them eat fast food, as there is zero nutrition in it, but I remember making an exception for those first Playmobil sets.  I saved all of them, the silver is almost gone on my son's favorite knight, and that early firetruck (I saw it in your calendar photos) that was so fragile has survived.  I remember spending hours and hours in the one toy store that carried the line, but we were a young family with what seemed like a huge mortgage payment and we were not able to buy many of the sets.  Now, I am slowly collecting the sets we wanted back then, and of course much more.  Thank you again for taking the time to post the photos of your incredible collection.
