This is where it starts getting sad, I know, but bear with me: I received another lot of knights today.
You know how the 3666-era knights were divided in three factions, basically:
1) the fleur-de-lys faction
2) the yellow tower faction
3) the white swan faction
These three factions are present both in the 3666 castle and also in the 3652 tournament set. Now, my point is: both the fleur-de-lys faction and the yellow tower factions have their foot soldiers: the former can be found in such sets as the cart and cage, and the latter in the 3666 castle set. But what about the white swan? You have the white swan knight and squire set of course ... but what about the soldiers?
::) ::) ::)

yes, saddly no foot soldiers were produced for the white swan faction.... but if you can bear with me for a few more days, I'll present a solution for you...although you might not like it....If you can bear with me for a few more days, I'll present a solution for you...although you might not like it....

There is a Special, black swan knight.... mmmm ... but I guess it's not the same. You can bleach the swan though.... :lol: :lol:

Yes thats my plan...Using the black swan knights as infantry for the white swan knights...

I guess you can make foot soldiers out of the swan squires but it's far from ideal.
The problem with the 90s knight sets - beautiful as they are - is that there is too much 'variety', if you want to call it that. I mean, the soldiers from the catapult set, where do those fit it? And the archers from 3889? What about those?
Having said that ... I really WISH I had been a PM fan back then. Imagine going into a toyshop and being able to buy all those sets, MIB 8} 8} 8}

The catapult soldiers are just that...catapult soldiers... You can use them as a seperate unit and the 3889 crossbowmen as their support group or as the man archer force of your army! That what I did in my scenario any way...

I have the catapult set and I LOVE IT. I LOVE THE COLORS! I wish there were more of those knights....

There was another White Swan figure in set 3668.
He'd do very well for the footsoldier as a base for customising, if you could get him in numbers.

Yes of course Martin!! I had forgotten abut him... Thanks!!!

Guys, I have to show you some pictures. But that'll wait until tomorrow I'm afraid.
-
Yes how silly of us - I had forgotten about that one too.
But for me that's more of a knight, rather than a boots-full-of-mud soldier.
Before I go to sleep I must say it again: these sets represent the pinnacle of PM's knight theme. Every one of them is an aesthetic masterpiece as far as I'm concerned. From the commander of the catapult unit to the bowman of the yellow dragon knights, everything's perfect there.
What a difference from the newer sets ::)

I was thinking something a little like this, but more general ... I hope to write a topic on this, soon.
It's about the way there were kinds of (nameless) characters, in the old ("vintage") medieval playmobil collection (the count, the countess, the baker, the farmer, sentry, soldier, captain, &c.), and this concept disappeared, later. (Even the merry men don't have "1 klicky" box for each character produced.)
The interesting of the way it was bach in the 80s was that, even someone who didn't buy the large castle could have the king exactly as he was in the castle, in a simple "1 klicky" box.
This doesn't happen anymore. It's sad ... There are a few of us who know that parents couldn't ever afford bigger sets. (My parents couldn't. Or seldom.) Even so, I could have the klickys ...
(The biggest set I got was a Western cavalry fort, in 1983? Christmas ... :love: )
This should be restored, somehow. (All right, there's DS for this, nowadays, blisters, 3 klicky add-on sets, but this doesn't reach the Brasilian market :-[ even L.A. Toys on Amazon.com -- the only store that ships playmo to Brasil -- don't have many add-ons in their stocks. Then, all I can do is to get frustrated with accessing Playmobil.De :-\ )
-
They probably do it on purpose? You want the king? Buy the whole set ::)
Rather ham-fisted if you ask me.
-
Getting a hold of a king isnt that hard, there have been a couple of specials and the current Advent Calendar has one as well.
Than there is always the DS option!
-
Not all countries have DS, Gis. Malta doesn't, to the best of my knowledge. Malta isn't even included in the 'main' PM website - how crappy is that?
::) ::) ::)

Maybe they just expect you to show up at the factory to get DS stuff.

We can get stuff from the DS catalogue (it takes ages for the orders to arrive), but we cannnot get individual DS items ... you know, I cannot turn up with a list of say 10 buckets, 10 flint pistols, 10 black horses and so on. We don't have such a service.
-
I heard peole say, in Malta you can buy PM at every corner. So maybe you should look out for garage sale`s. :toot: Or ask in the factory. :lol: :lol: :lol:
Maybe whole Malta is a DS! :yippee:
Just kidding. ;)

(Perhaps you both aren't thinking like a kid ... ::) )

@Bolingbroke: there's a shop in Buggiba a few blocks away from the Mac Donald's where they sell stuff for tourists and PM figures in bags of 12 or 20, straight out of the factory. I think these figures all have small defects (mostly in printing) but they're OK for customising! It's the only one I know but there must be others. But beware of the "off the truck" stuff
Here are the picS, they're from old sets I made and sold. Some small castles and two sets of soldiers.

Chapeau!
Once I get a decent amount of spare parts, I will try to make my own. I'll try my hand at the polka dot catapult faction, too.
Thanks for the heads up re the shop - Ill ask for directions! In the old days you would get hawkers at the market in Valletta selling such bags, but not anymore. Not that I know of, anyway.

Malta does indeed sound like a fun place to be!!! ;D ;D ;D

Wow! Cool! :yup: Nice customs!
