Title: Belated birthday presents :)
Post by: Bolingbroke on October 03, 2010, 06:28:32
Last night I finally got back home after three weeks 'on the road'  ;D

It was my birthday sometime during those three weeks, and many of my presents (including my wife's) were waiting for me here  ;D ;D ;D

They included a 3666 castle (my first 3666 ... my first steck!) which I think and hope is complete, and the old jousting set from the 90's which looks in very good condition.

What's more, I also found some recent ebay purchases patiently awaiting my return  ;D ;D ;D

The old carthorse and prisoner's cage set (and two extra guards from the same set)
The old siege tower from the same era (complete and with box)
Another set of knights + squire yellow dragon soldiers
An assortment of yellow dragon soldiers which I will use for spare parts.

I will try to post pictures once I have unpacked everything (which will take me a while - it's amazing what sort of backlog tends to accumulate after only three weeks away from home), but I am really, really happy. The only problem of course is space ... now it's getting silly and wife has suggested a moratorium on new purchases  ::) ::) ::)

Wow, what a wonderful surprise for your return home!  The 3666 is THE castle and even if parts are missing, they may still be available from DS.

There's half of it in the above post. The knight and squires set was in very good condition but was missing the arrows. The prisoner set, one of the whatcamacallits that hold the flagpole fastened to the cage was broken but it doesn't really matter because otherwise the set's complete. The tournament set is missing three flags and the two original flagpoles, as well as both horses' feathers - but I am sure I can find some eventually. Still have to start putting the castle together, but the siege tower was practically in mint condition. Looks great, but god knows where' i'm gonna put all this new stuff: there's no more space left in here and the wife's not pleased.  ::)

Wahey - a friend of mine today gave me a MIB space station from the 1980s! Methinks this will be the first set I am going to keep MIB. To think how much I wanted one, when I was a nipper  ::) ::)

I think he has more stashed away in the attic. His uncle used to work for PM way back when, and he used to give sets to my friend from time to time. Heh ... and now I got to know that when he (my friend) told his wife he was going to give me this space station, his wife kept telling him: 'don't, don't ... don't give your rubbish to other people!'

Congratulations on the birthday and the sets.

I had a good spell when I got the old jousting set complete in the box along with 3959 (King's court).  I got them both for around £10 plus p+p.  The gods of Playmobil were smiling on me that day.  I also got 3674 (Prisoner Cart), 3653 (catapult) complete in their boxes around the same time.  My favourites were 3624 (Merry Men's hideaway) and 3627 (Merry Men's feast) - complete in their boxes.

Congrats!

Once you get the castle set up and then compare it to the new ones I think you will like the size and the ease of putting it together.  The walls really are higher, which is more realistic.  The ease of expansion is really a (the?) key part.

Yahee (for me). This morning I laid my hands on a large set of klickies - 76 in all.  ;D ;D ;D 25 of those are redcoat klickies, another 25 are big bertha type soldiers and the remaining 25 assorted pirates  ;D ;D ;D And at a very good price too.

Lolz. It's the French-type soldiers that came with the Big Bertha cannon set (pirates theme). I would really like to post a picture of the whole haul, but my wife has the camera  ::) :)

I was gonna make a battle of Lodi diorama with them,
but DS didn't have any in stock... :(
As well as a few other things.
