Title: Monocle
Post by: tanotrooper on September 17, 2010, 00:23:53
Hello everyone,

I hope this is in the right subforum.  :)
 :gent: the monocle :gent:
A popular piece of eyewear during the 19th and 20th century. Yet, we didn't see any in the Victorian line or any special afterwards. Being a monocle-wearer myself (well, as soon as I get the right lense in my monocle I will be... :) )
I'd love to see something similar to the chrome glasses which were used in the Victorian line. (Silver chrome or gold chrome, perhaps with a small chain running down) They could use it in a new Victorian theme ( ;D ) or in a classic 'jungle explorer' special, something like this:

So, what are your thoughts about a Playmobil monocle?  ;D :gent:

mmm very interesting. I also though it was weird that there is not one in the Victorian line, since it was something very commun at that time.
I could make one I think and post it. That would be a nice custom!!!

the hard part to make would be the chain. where does it go fixed? the neck? it hangs from there?
I should do some research..... I'll come back with some ideas.  0)

I think a dotted chrome line on the cheek might do the trick  :)

I would see it as a piece that attached under the hair like the nose and glasses of the witch or a beard.

Yes probably this would be the way to go!

¿What about a simple print on (like the grandfather from various Victorian sets)?

Very interesting - but how does it work in practice? If you're shortsighted surely one corrected eye would not be enough for your day to day needs? What about the other eye?

Why don't take such a head and a rubber?  ;) Somebody in KW did it this way!

I asked him and got the permission from Dread Bonnet to show the pic here.  :wow:

Indeed, the monocle wasn't designed for shortsightness, but for the opposite. I have one dominant eye and one 'lazy'. My dominant has always coped with the other, but lately it's getting a bit burdened especially when looking at for example a blackboard for several hours a day. Therefore, I use it for looking in the distance for a long period like a computer etc. Problem is that I supossedly have a cylinder and that the monocle doesn't stay in the same place so that I can't see properly. I'm hoping to get a non-cylindrical value for the lense so that it can turn with any loss of sight.  :) Beingt short, I have one good and one bad eye, therefore I only need one glass. (And I've sworn never too wear glasses again, and put in lenses aren't really for me  ;D )

Thanks for the picture shirona33, that's about what I had in mind.  :) I've made some pictures of what could be possible.

See, this looks like the grandfather I mentioned, but with the right half of the glasses somehow removed. (It’s not that it’s a bad job, mind.)

OK here's one. It was made out of a pirate's earing. your sketches kinda gave me the idea.
It can be better placed with some other type of hair but the look is really good. Well...... I like it a lot.

Wow, excellent work tonguello!  ;D
I'll be making one aswell for my Victorian layout, either using something similar to yours or rubbing print away from the head with printed glasses.  :gent: :)

Nice idea! Would fit a steampunk figure, too! Reminds me of some evil guy in a Spidey comics, but who???? ???
