Title: The beauty of 4666
Post by: Heronimus on September 14, 2010, 06:10:47
I have always been thinking this knight is kind of boring, lacking cool accessories and printing. And today, as I recall some of you have purcahsed tens of the same 4666 for customization, I bought one and started to realize how great it is!! Simple and neat. The real thing looks better than shown in the cover. It reminds me of how simple the old klickies used to be back in the 80s. 8-)

Yes - I recently bought around a dozen of these for customising. As far as I'm concerned it's one of the best for 'spares': the coiff, the beard, the armour, the silver arms and so on ... if you're into knights, this one does come in handy.

Yes, the shield is cool and unique. Sometimes the klickies are just having too many colour on them.

His shield is the sort used for jousting, yet he has no horse or jousting helmet. He can't hold his sword straight because the curved hilt interferes with his armor.

For me this was a "thrown together" special because they had to have a knight theme figure, not a well designed individual. Useful for spares, but he's not going to form the basis of a new faction even with the unique shield design.

I have got one of these, and I must say he is not one of my favourites becuse he is juat a tad boring :-

But then I am not a customiser, so I can see where he excells :)

@WolfKnight: I hope you are now convinced the yellow legs are cool!
True, this knight was mostly useful for spares. But, man these shields are so hard to customise with their double curvature!
The breast plate also, came in quite handy with this new colour.

Plus its period! ;)

Yes, I never much lied this Knight,
But after taking a few closer looks, and reading a few comments...
He is beginning to grow on me. ;D

He is not that bad I guess. :)

I don’t like that style of shield. But the rest is pretty cool- If that same basic pattern appears on a different style, I would pick that up.

Yes...he probably is the last stay-on-the-shelf-and-got-ignored knight I have bought. He never was on my wish list, but now he looks just cool....really cool

I think kids would find his silver armour appealing. :P

On a closer look he is a hidden gem, no doubt. Sadly I did not even buy a single one.

What torso does he have? Which colour? Is it flat or has it the middle groove?

Ah - didn't know that. So the previous breastplates were what - darker, like those in the 1990's knights and squire sets?

These breastplate first appeared here in the late 70's 3291 - Nuremburg Guards (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3291)

And then, they were reproduced for 3329x - Knight And Squires (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3329x) with the darker colour!

The 4666 is probably the first set that we see these light grey coloured breastplate, as Vauban points out!
