Can anyone tell me anything about this.
It came in with a lot of bits from ebay, that I bought for specific things that I wanted, but there were a few non Playmo bits in with the lot and I thought this was one of them. However looking under rescue for something else I saw it listed as 3247 and according to the collectors guide it is listed as rare, so I rescued it from the bin :-[
This isn't complete as it is missing rotor pins and tail piece plus a few accessories also the stickers are different to those on the box cover picture.so is obviously not rare as in a complete one in a box but I wondered if it is hard to come by?

Is it listed as rare? really?
I have one. I didn't survived my childhood intact. I loved to play with it.
I had the medical helicopter. Looks the same though...
-
Oh wow!! So many loving memories with this one!!! It really is the 3247 - Rescue Helicopter (Yellow) (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=3247) but as I can recall, never had police stickers!!!
The original, probably this is an original produced back in the 80's, I think is quite hard to findas I've never come acrossed it in ebay... the reproduction on the other hand 7885 - Classic Helicopter (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showinv.pl?setnum=7885) is not so hard to get, it might be still be in stock with DS.
The classic edition 7885 has various differences with the original, such as a klicky less, no oxygene and no gas tank. (actually come to think of it these might be the only differences...) Oh yeah, and the stickers that go on the rotor tail, are different. the original ones were two stickers and they go around each blade...on the reissue there are four stickers that go onto each side of the blade...

This helicopter is not rare at all, but some sets containing it are rare. What are strange on this one are the stickers : never saw such sticker on a playmobil set (at least on european ones).

The sticker puzzled me greatly...maybe its from another set or another toy company?

yes I agree, stickers are weird and might be from another toy....
-
Anyone with police theme knowledge to shed some light?
-
Looking at it, there are no markings on it at all.
The two trays feel right, but the helicopter itself somehow doesn't feel right to me hence why (I originally put it in the bin)and the rotor blades and the landing gear seem to be a slightly softer plastic. I do wonder if it is a copy? but it is so like the Playmobil one in every other way. It is no use to me so I was going to ask if anyone wanted it, but if it's a cheap copy then I expect no one does!

If this is a lower quality plastic, can it be antex? or another company under license?
-
Would there be any markings on it if so? On closer inspection with my reading glasses on there is a small number 2 on the underside of the cockpit.

I am not really sure...I had a look again at my antex plyamospace station and the mouls reeds playmobil geobra 1980....the quality of the plastic is excellent...like it was produced in germany... ;D ;D ;D
But as to the helicopter... :eh?: :eh?: :eh?:
-
I'll check mine when I get home. Mine is Antex surely from de 80's so it is suppossed to be good. Antex is crap now, but before, it was very good cuality! oh dear good old days.....

Nice find very interesting.
It is of course PlayPeople the big clue is in the number PP .
The set was shown in the marx toys catalogue 1978 in white set 1765, the stickers are genuine.
The Marx factory didn't make vehicles as far as I know, all where made in Germany and then sent over to the UK. As most of you know this helicopter was made in yellow for set 3247 the white one shown in the catalogue and collectors guide was a PlayPeople idea. I think the earliest Playmobil white helicopter of this type was in set 3144 of 1988 ten years later.
So the question is did someone buy 3247 and put PP stickers on it from 1765 or did Playmobil send over a load of yellow helicopters and use the old "colour of contents may vary" excuse when you opened 1765 and found a yellow helicopter in the box rather than the white one shown? ???

Sorry, but what is PlayPeople?

Skypurr forgot to mention he found this nice piece in Great Britain, that would have oriented the research a bit faster

Sorry, but what is PlayPeople?
Hi tonguello.
Playpeople was basically the UK version of Antex.
It was Playmobil made under a licence agreement with Marx Toys in their Swansea factory.
It was produced from 1975 -1980 here in the UK, production stopped because the parent company DCM (Dunbee Combex Marx) went into receivership.
-
Thank you Sweetking and Sir Gareth. Now I understand that part of the thread ;D

Hi guys,
i had the 1765 as a child in the early 80's and it was white with those PP stickers. as kids we never kept the boxes so recently i have been buying many old sets for the boxes. 1765 is one i received MIB recently and the helicopter inside the box was yellow just like skypurrs. so i can confirm that playpeople did put white and yellow helicopters in the 1765 boxes. hope this helps identify the helicopter to the set.

Thanks for this info Claire, it helps my research out a lot.
I'm wondering now if it might of been down to a matter of cost or it was just easier to make them all one colour at the factory rather than an error.

regarding material cost, yellow would have cost more than white as ABS is naturally whitish to white. Yellow ABS needs a yellow pigment.
On the other hand, produce only yellow parts meant having only one run for standard and UK market (no mould changing, larger production batches, an so on...)
I would therefore believe too they changed from white to yellow in UK to reduce costs
-
Thanks for that information Claire, :thanks:
I never thought it could be from a Playpeople set.
I now need to find the missing parts!!

To Elaine and Damo...
Im sure that the yellow version of this helicopter was released by PM in the last few years through the Direct Service catalogue as part of the Classic series where they re-release some of the old vehicles. This means its just possible that DS will still have the spares you need. I cant help you with part numbers though im afraid.

Thanks for this advice, Claire :thanks:
I subsiquently checked the parts sheet on PlaymoDB and thought - I've seen that rear fin somewhere :eh?:
So out I went to my non Playmo parts draw and there it was! Sadly only one though, otherwise I would have given one to you Elaine :(
I thoroughly recommend keeping a non Playmo spares box, for odd parts in a haul that you don't think are Playmobil, but then, like me, I discovered about 20 parts in there this year that I never knew where Playmo and could have been thrown away :0
Obviously chuck out the bits you definately know aren't Playmobil otherwise it can get very full ;)
Damo :)
-
Thank you for that Claire, :thanks: I'll add these on to my next ds order.
I have a couple of drawers like that Damo, one for general 'bits' and another for 'bits' that I think belong to vehicles. Of course when I need something I never find what I want!

The yellow one was effectivly available at the DS or at the funpark shop two years ago.
