Title: The Crystal Knight
Post by: Gis on August 31, 2010, 00:22:37
Hello all,

I will do a couple of short stories, to illustrate some of the background stories of the kingdom of Winterhaven.

They are not in chronological order I just make them as I think of them. Also I am skipping bits here and there to get to the jist of the story. Sorry no Dragon battle this time.

Enjoy!

The Crystal Knight

Hurdagon was a normal farmboy. He lived and worked on his dad’s farm close to Winterhaven. People from the other farms knew him well, because he was quick as a cat but also very strong. He quickly was known as The Lion. The word about his prowess traveled around. And one day a royal messenger from King Damrick, First King of Winterhaven.

He was requested to come to the castle for an audience. Hurdagon was asked to show his skills and after three days of training he was selected to be the Crown Prince Geonos’ companion. As King Damrick was set to be on the throne for a long time, Geonos and Hurdagon started exploring the area and help people in need.

In a couple of years the duo had made quite a name for themselves and Damrick decided that the proper reward was a knight title and a piece of land. Hurdagon was honored by the title but vowed the land to his family as he would protect Geonos until eternity.

As he was knighted he took a Lion as an emblem and sky blue and black as his colors. Through the years many great deeds were done by the duo and they quickly became known as the Prince and the Blue Lion.

Then one day, they received a desperate message from the hamlet of Silversands. Upon investigation the populace was under the influence of a Black Dragon named Venrakkanax .

Hurdagon and Geonos quickly went into The Witchlight Fens and quickly found the Cave which was said to be Venrakkanax’ hiding place. By the time they approached the Dragon had long sensed them and came out of his cave to repel (and hopefully devour) the intruders.

The fight was short and Hurdagon easily dispatched the Dragon with his powerful Axe where Geonos had little to add.

Hurdagon quickly climbed the rock formation as he saw something glittering in the yellow rocks. A sword was stuck and he started prying at it.

After a while he manages to free the sword and he is able to feel it’s power instantly. He wields it and the crystal makes him feel invincible.

He comes down and tries his new sword on the dragon and he is able to stab it through the dragon hide easily. He carves out a piece of the hide and takes it with him.

Hurdagon and Geonos would have many adventures still. The Crystal Sword would quickly earn him the nickname the Crystal Knight. The Dragon hide was used to cover his shield, so although it looked bland it is one of the most powerfull shields known to men. Then Damrick died and Geonos needed to ascend the throne and Hurdagon was right there with him every step of the way protecting his back. Even when Geonos died Hurdagon would continue to guard the Kingdom and its new King, Bordul.

But alas in the end there is a sad ending to this tale as the reaper finally managed to get a hold of Hurdagon and he now buried deep in the crypts of Winterhaven castle, together with his sword and shield, still ready to defend when necessary!

Thanks WoT. I am just sharing parts of the background story as have imagined them. There is no final battle perse, but the importance of the Crystal Knight will soon become apparent.

Oh ok, I was actually speaking of a final battle for the Crystal Knight,
How he lost his life? :o

But your idea makes it that much more exciting to hear the rest! ;D ;D ;D
Can hardly wait! :)

Wondeful story, Gis.  You've got the knack of telling a tale of chivalry as if it were written at the time of knights.           Look forward to more.

Thanks a lot Mina! I think next up will be the tale of the Smith of Winterhaven. But well that might still change on my way home :-)
