Title: My Roman Army
Post by: WarriorOfToys on August 25, 2010, 14:45:03
In Marching formation.
These are all my Roman units in marching formation.
I have my Roman Citizens on the right, and the Auxiliary on the left.
You can see my General and his bodyguard in the center. :)

Here you see my Legionnaires. The first Century will become a Praetorian Guard
When I get the units for my Triarii/Spear Auxiliary. These Guys. (http://www.collectobil.com/catalogue/items/4632.htm)
I will switch out their helmets.

Here you see my Jerusalem Century at the back of the first line.
They are spear-men, so they protect the flanks of the army from Cavalry attacks.
They can also easily be brought up to the front if there is a mass Cavalry assault there.

Another view.

Next are the Auxiliary on the left side.
The Auxiliary commander.

In this picture you see the main bulk of the Auxiliary side, the regular Infantry units.
The Triarii/Spear Auxiliary will be placed in front of these men.

Here is a picture of my Cretan archers, though they are still not prepared for battle.

Next, a picture of my Charioteer. He has two throwing spears.

This is a picture of my War Elephant! ;D He is ready for battle,
And if needed can carry two archers on the platform as well.

My General and Bodyguard, all mounted. :)

My German Auxiliary Cavalry.

And my siege weapons. You can clearly see my Onagers,
And in the top left of the picture you can see my Scorpios packed onto a cart.

That's all, hope you enjoyed.

very nice indeed :) I love them all...

just a tiny detail: if I were you, I'd use something else to tie the platform on the elephant... everything else is so great, this looks a bit ... well... kindda lower-standard

Apart from that, I especially love the Germans, and the Jerusalem Century is really great :)

Yeah, believe me I would if I could,
But I cant think of anything else to use that would look any better... ???
I think just paining it will be an improvement. Maybe I will try that. :)

Thanks. ;D

A great Roman army and well-presented.  I particularly like the Cretan archers.

For fixing on the stand for the archers on the elephant, Playmobil do a red elastic cord and with a hook on either end to meet under the elephant, this might look better.

Thanks Wolf Knight,
Actually they are marching off to our battle against Giorginetto!!! >:D
They must start early as it is a long march to Athens from the US!

Thanks Gordon, for your compliment, and your idea!
But I think I may have another way...
I will see if it works and if it does Ill show you all. :)

Great WoT!!!! Very nice army.

I must agree with Mina, though. The elastic band on the elephant is in sharp contrast with the rest.

By the way, I once saw a great custum of a battle elephant: some cut the top of the roman siege tower and put it on the back of an elephant. Looked really cool!

But all in all I enjoyed the pics very much!

Thanks, I love my army of Romans. >:D

I think I might have seen that elephant custom somewhere... could you post a picture? ;D
Too bad I don't have a Roman siege tower to do that, or I might try it!
I didn't like them much anyway. >:D

Glad you enjoyed them. :)

For your elephant you might also look out for one of the circus coats to use as a base for the platform. There are three versions I think, the first (and hardest to get) with a platform attached. Here is a view of one of the other versions

Cool, but I don't have the money to go part hunting... :-\
Anyway, I found something that works, so I will show you all soon. :)

Thanks, but winning the battle is going to be pretty hard against Giorginetto... (http://www.playmofriends.com/forum/index.php?topic=4881.0) :o

hey WOT...your pictures are huge...its taking like forever to load  :P
its a fantastic display! ..I just want to add that you can also build your own war elephants using existing parts like I did  :)

(I hope I'm not teasing...you did say you cant afford to hunt for parts but I'm just suggesting that you can keep a look out for these parts if they come your way some day...customising is never finished/final...I just make do with whatever I have and then slowly improve it and it never ends as newer/better parts/colours get launched... ;) )

Hi

Great looking roman army you have in your command. I really like your picture angles down low like you have them. It really puts you right in the middle of the troops and makes them look 6 feet as apposed to 3 inches

Thanks Ras! ;D
I also like taking pics right next to them like this so that you can see them a bit better,
It is easier to see the printing and faces and things when you are down next to them,
Then when you are soaring above. :cloud9: ;)

Thanks Justindo. :)
I like 1000s of 1 soldier...
But adding the Auxiliary and Jerusalem Century was so much more fun.
And helpful, because it gave me the idea for an archer force...
Which I need! :o

Indeed, you've come up with some great looking archers and I like the idea of the Jerusalem Century. :)
