Yesterday while getting the mail small light box was present. It felt very light and I was unsure of what was in it - until I opened it, that is.
Here is the box and the 3631 Wandering Monk (finally, I have this one - sadly I never did get it when it was a special, even though I admired it on the shelves - let this be a lesson to those who admire sets on the shelves but do not get them - well, in all honesty, getting these sets this was was a lot cheaper than if I had bought them new, but still...).
Then, another set of 3265 Jousting Knights. I had (still have) this set as a child. It does not compare at all to the 3652 Jousting set but it is still better than the last 3287 Knights Tournament which only has two knights and weapons. Playmobil really needs to remember the past when they had squires, heralds and spectators. (But hey, if you can put in half the content and charge the same price ...)
-
Very nice acquisitions Wesley!!
I like the Jousting Knights Particularly!
-
Here we have two of the 3669 - one of my favourite sets. This was when the knights were transitioning into the glory days of the '90s with all the beautiful sets, removable armour (more removable armour, I correct myself), more realistic colouring and more detailed accessories.
Followed, of course, by the 3653 Knights Catapult. Why the catapult crew gets to sit around the enjoy "root beer" is beyond me, but maybe there is historical precedence for this.
-
nice ;)
-
Oops, I forgot to post the pic of the box.
There was the piece de resistance for this and that was the 3654 Kinghts Tournament Tent. I had always regretted not getting this - but my oldest daughter was not that much into knights at the time and there were only so many sets I could attempt to justify for myself. The younger girls all love princesses so the knights do go well with them (which is really saying that now I have a better excuse).
-
Fantastic fantastic!!! Simply fantastic!!! I still have these sets from childhood!!! Oh so many happy hours!!! I now have all these sets three or four times each! Still great to look and most importantly, play with them!!!
Congratulations Wesley on this grea haul!!!
-
The 3654 is probably the most realistic jousting sets around. Each Knight would have had a Squire and a rack of weapons.
Plus a tent which he and his squire would sleep in... usually the squire on the floor.
Probably wrapped in sheep skin with the knight on a bed that could easily be broken down and moved.
In addition to the squire, the Knight would also most likely have his household with him.
That includes his wife, his kids,
(though if any of his kids were old enough he would probably leave them behind to take care of the land while he was away.)
and a large number of servants and keepers.
(Plus if he were on campaign he would have his small militia army with him as well.)
They would need places to sleep, food to eat, and stuff to drink.
Thus you can begin to see how troublesome going to battle really was!
My only with is that Playmobil might make some more like these!
But with different Knights and Heraldry. Maybe some civilian additions?

Here is a good picture of a knight's entourage. Now if Playmobil would make a set like this!!!
Yes, you can custom one up from sets and figures, but it would be nice to get a new set like this. And a baggage train - but you can use the various wagons for this.

i believe 3652 is the best

i believe 3652 is the best
I think it stands up just fine besides the newest sets and figures. It is pretty timeless (at least so far).
-
oh yea :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:
you have it??

Great haul there, Wesley. Hopefully, the heyday of the Playmobil knights will reappear sometime.
When going to battle, a knight would have with him his squire and four or so men-at-arms (possibly nothing more than some of his tenants wearing padded jackets for protection with maybe steel helmets and armed with basic weapons) forming what was called a "lance". (In addition, there would be non-combatant servants.) So if a mediaeval writer refers to an army of 1000 lances and later talks of 6000 men in the battle on one side, he's right on both counts.

It is a good set, but you need more then just that to make a proper tournament.
Remember that there were many other things they did besides the jousting.

Yes that would be cool. But maybe fewer figures? Like only 2 peasants and the Knight and Squire.
Then you can use a couple common people from add-ons and other sets to make a family and servants for the Knight.

That's an interesting piece of history Gordon, thanks.

Great haul Wesley! lovely sets!  The 3265 set is very nice and the 3669 set.

oh yea :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow: :wow:
you have it??
Yes, I do. I bought it off the shelf when it was first out.
When I found out I was expecting my first daughter I bought lots of Playmobil - I had the mantel of the fireplace all lined up with the first specials. She wasn't even born yet! LOL
-
WOW......I love the sets, especially the wandering monk.

If I ever have kids I will defiantly buy them Playmobil! ;D

Love the wandering monk and the 3654 Tournament tent, and of course 3653 as Playmo1989 said was the best of the tournament main sets. They've done a couple of other versions over the years, but they never topped this one for completeness. I'm not so keen on the chromed knights of the 3265 era, but maybe that's because I never had them as a child. ;)
I wish Playmobil had continued the tournament tent idea and created a tent for each full-carapison knight. It could have become an annual release with guaranteed sales. The only other one I know of is the 3837 Fairytale Tournament tent. Imagine the color and spectacle of a field of these tents in all their different heraldry with knights getting into their armor, squires running around making last minute adjustments, and the crowd of followers all getting drunk and eating popcorn. Wasn't medieval life in the Playmobil world so much richer and more evocative when not everybody was trying to bash someone else's brains out?
OTOH they reused the tent frame in the Roman set 4273 but I only ever bought one as it was so expensive! I see it's now available (in the US) as add-on set 7471 without the figures, which makes it a less eye-watering $11. Maybe I should get a few, create some templates for new fabric sides, and create a Field of the Cloth of Gold diorama. ;D

i believe that comes second first they should make a proper castle and then tournament tents , altought i think some tournament sets were realesed through the 00's without a tent but i don't know it's numbers ..,.

Playmobil presumably think they have made a "proper" castle with their latest 4865 and 4866 castle sets. What would you like to have different?
Tournament set 3287 was perhaps the most recent offering.

yes this was what i had in mind

well personally i don't like them i would prefer something more realistic like the old castles 3666 etc.... i'am not a steck lover as many here on the forum but i like the possibilities you have with steck to make great castles and the set itself were very realistic and could stand buy it self with the tournament sets on the side ," some dioramas from 1993-4 with the castle and the tournaments really beautifull :o :o :o :o :o "

Schleich makes some tents for their knights and they work well. I bought 4 or 5 of the green ones off ebay for aonly a couple of dollars each from one seller. I was thining of painting them different .
Here is a picture of one.
-
Cool!
Unfourtunatly they are from a later period then I am trying to reproduce...
(I think... I know they were used in the 14th and 15th centuries, not sure about earlier.)
-
Those are some wonderful acquisitions, Wesley! The yellow and red jousting set was my first Playmobil set and the purple knight set followed it shortly.
-
I guess I haven't added to this for a while.
I got a couple new things the other day. These are from two auctions on ebay from the same seller so it was cheaper with combined shipping.
-
Here is more of what came.
The boxed 3446 looks to be in pristine condition - like it was never even set up. Sadly, the figures were not there (was looking forward to possibly another firing crossbow!).
I didn't really need another pirate ship, but I was going to make it into a princess ship and put a swans head at the fore (and obviously change the sails and paint it).
-
Wow, this is a great haul! Some really nice sets there.
-
Here was another one.
The 3716 barn is pretty much complete (no stork's nest) and is quite nice. It is sort of a cross between medieval and western with the timbered walls and the plank walls. It would work for either, but it has a much more European feel to it.
The extra Steck pieces, most likely from a 3446, were most welcome as well.
The figures are nice too - I never did get the 3668 when it was new, but it is nice to have the figures from it (just wish the rest of it was there too - gotta wonder where all the rest of a set goes ...).
-
And another one.
This 3937 Royal Tent is not complete, but the girls like it a lot - more princesses and princes. If anyone has the other princess/female figure for it and does not want it/need it anymore, I would be happy to take it off your hands.
-
Great addtitions to your collection Wesley!!! Really great catch!! Especially the early small steck castle!!
-
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great sets! All of them!!! I liked the idea of the Princess ship....can't wait to see it done. :)
-
You've been busy!!! Great Buys :-)
-
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great sets! All of them!!! I liked the idea of the Princess ship....can't wait to see it done. :)
Thank you.
The idea for the ship in my head is to have a large prow, something like the dragon one in the Dawn Treader ship. The hard part won't be to make the ship, but to find a swan's head to put on it, methinks. I might have to wait a couple months until spring lawn ornaments appear (in stores) and then use one of those.
-
A great lot of fantastic sets!
-
Yesterday I got two of the Large Rock Formations (7178). I didn't take a picture of them because you can't really tell what they are in the bag, so stock photo provided (just like the ebay auction photos were provided for the ones above).
I was going to use them for an undersea kingdom for my daughters' mermaids. In on of the auctions it happened to include a possible 30 21 9120 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-21-9120 (http://playmodb.org/cgi-bin/showpart.pl?partnum=30-21-9120)). Now, I say "possible" because Playmodb only lists it as in dark grey or western red. However, if you go back to my auction photos, you can clearly see it is a light grey. So, it does not match the rocks exactly in colour, but that will be fine for children. Does anyone know of another set that used this piece in light grey?
I was thinking of painting them a blue to match the "undersea" rocks Playmobil made, but rocks that are underwater are not blue in real life, so I'm thinking why bother? That way it would only limit their usage. So, I think they will stay grey.
-
Okay, I haven't added to this in a while - that just means I'm very very behind. Also, not as many new posts on the site as of late (probably spring and people are going out of doors - or nobody likes Playmobil anymore. Yeah, right ...).
Here's a couple lots I got:
I love getting lots of miscellaneous parts. There's the excitement of finding out what set it was from, what it could be used for, does it complete anything I have, will it inspire me to want (need) anything, etc.
-
Very interesting lots Wesley!!! There seems to be a good variety of items! I share your sentiment on such lots! I have received many lots these past few weeks and I am reconstruction more knights out of them for my armies! It is really exciting!!!
-
I also got the Blacksmith starter set (3125). I never bought it when it was on the shelves (and I do not know why) but I've always liked it. Maybe because it is something different than just fighting knights. I do wish they made domestic sets for the medieval period still ...
-

I've never had to many Playmobil vehicles before. I'm more of a middle ages and pirates type for what I like to get - however - the girls have been playing with the vehicles non-stop.
I like how the one lot came with 4 catapults and 5 cannons and two extra gun carriage parts (not to mention the viking tent).
-
That is a great haul of vehicles, Wesley
Getting that yellow roofed ambulance is good as it comes from a Germany exclusive set
Damo :)
-
Beautiful pieces! Like gold!
I'm very happy for you and jealous also i must admit!
-
Great additions

Okay, the postman didn't really bring this - but I thought I'd just keep going with this thread instead of making new ones.
There has been a 3750 pirate ship for sale on kijiji here for a while now. They lowered the price so I emailed about it and got it for $20. So, we (three of my daughters and I) went to pick it up last night.
Here is what it looked like this morning:
The next picture didn't turn out as my battery in my ipod died and I lost the picture as it was rendering it ... Anyway, it showed that inside the cabin was the cabin boy (appropriate spot for him), monkey and parrot.
So with everything loose taken off above deck and from below deck (front sail, accessories) it still rattled so off came the deck:
There was so much under there that I had to even remove the lead weight in the bottom of the hull to get a signal flag out that was wedged in there pretty good.
Here is what was under the cargo hold floor:
Sadly, (or typically?) the black polyethylene (type of soft plastic that can not be glued) are broken..
Does anyone know if DS would still carry these? Or does anyone have any extras that are not broken?
While typing of broken things. The top of the mast had all three pieces present and amazingly the piece broken off the mast was still there in the bottom so I got out my handy dandy abs glue for Playmobil parts |(that are not polyethylene) and glued them.
Sadly the cannons are the american ones without the springs (in Canada they had ones with springs and ones without so it was hard to know what you were going to get). Eventually they went to no springs for north america as a whole (obviously to save money on shipping and making mistakes of what went where).
Does anyone know of a part number for the springs? I've tried springs from pens but they're not the same ...
The decals on the ship are put on very well - not crooked at all. So I'm not sure what to do with the ship (it's like my 4th or 5th of these). I was thinking of painting it and my daughter said it should be pink for princesses. However, since the decals are so good and pretty much everything is there (what's not like the hull for the rowboat and the pirate with peg leg and the one with the green bandana, the megaphone and telescope I have in spares) maybe I should just restore it to original?

My favourite Knights !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome buys sire , awesome buys indeed !!!!!!!!!!

Nice boat. Keep it the beautifully realistic stock colors. It would be interesting to see in pink but very odd :0
Which mast clips are you missing? there are, what 5 different black ones
oxycotton for the foot 8}

Got some more stuff the other day. ;D
A preschool was selling all their Playmobil so I got it all. I have not had time to go through it all yet, but there's a Pirate Ship (3940) there! This is my first one of those. I have lots of the others (except the new pop-up action toy one). A firehall, airport, police station (never had any of those before, not my interest but just before this lot came up my 6 year old wanted to build a Playmobil town - well, now we can). Also another Dragon Castle (3269). And a 5301 - fully furnished.

Again a nice haul here, a fully
furniced furnished mansion, castle, ...and a 3940-ship :captain: ! :)9
-
Awesome haul!!! My sentiments reflect Bonnie's .... :(

Okay, now that the postal strike is over, I have gotten (more than) a few things in the mail. Here are the pictures from the auctions, as I haven't had time to unpack them all and set them up and have fun with the kids yet.

3666 plus 3123 pieces (almost makes me want to cry when sets are partial like this - but this has a TONNE of great pieces in it)

More 3666 pieces (I'm especially happy about the extra red roof piece that has the opening in the back) and some more mixed pieces (ie gate for 3665, floor for siege tower).

Got several of that magician's worshop. It was from tha set I fell for assembly system
-
I ma glad yuo posted that picture i was wondering about something on this set a couple of days ago. This is a great set i must admit, i remember buying it when i was a student , i was so impressed by the bespoke items, the detailing and most important the ambiance it created , it is indeed a great set from the ( according to me ) so called ' Playmobil Golden Era'..... a classic set with great klickies and items !!!! I will put the one i have into Krull's forrest and not in the cisty as i was originally thinking... it will be in a dense part of the pine forrest , isolated and this magician and his helper ( and another klicky that will be revealed ) will be on the ' good ' side of magic .....
-
I agree about the 90s being the Golden Era of Playmobil.
It baffles me why that time period was so good and now is really just a pale reflection.

Same here. The originallity, the enthusiasm of the sets in the early/mid 90s was something elese i reckon, i remember when the 3666 was released and all of the medieval sets, they were soooo popular something like the lego star wars when they were released etc. The themes expanded so well then and the sets were a full portfolio for each theme making them complete and not so weird detached theme with a few sets like the ghost pirates ( not that i dont like them). but one needs to look at the 95-98 catalogues and see the quality and diversity of sets. These new spies mambo jumbo and too much system x and parts to build a totally non realistic house, the new castles that look like chinese toys bought from an open fair for 29.99 oh well sorry but the 90s was indeed the golden era for playmobil. all started going wrong with the new ( then ) space sets with all the wires and connectors so so sooooooo inferior to the superb playmospace theme of the 80s !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Playmobil wil never be the same again and i wonder with oil prices that high these days and since its highly unlikely to see oil price going down what the effect on playmobil will be , softer , ever lesser quality toys probably or the total end of the playmobil line. thank god for ebay i say :)
-
the magician's workshop iis really great! The fort as well. Trully the golden era of playmobil !!!congratz Wesley!!! I too need to set up my ford someday...
-
I too worry with oil prices so high.
They have two choices.
1) Raise prices (which will lower their sales even more and only lead to layoffs and a reduced line and take Playmobil away from those who need it the most -children!)
2) reduce the amount of plastic used (which is probably why they went to sys x and are now going to very thin pieces that clip together (ala lighthouse and dragon knights)
I guess a third option is to use a different material.
-
Guess what came today! (Yes, Sunday - it came by bus so it came faster than post.)
I was going to post photos of it - but it's late (1:27am) - or is it early ...
Anyway, tomorrow.
You can tell it was collector kept - there's not even any dust on anything and no discolouration (which I'm beginning to think is due to exposure to UV rays).

Pictures speak a thousand words.
Here are some pictures (excuse the quality, it was just with my ipod touch at night in my garage so there was no flash and the lighting was not the best).
You can see there are some custom touches to some of the figures (I just grabbed a few out of the bin with figures that seemed kind of neat and called out).
Since this was a collection of an elderly lady who passed away the touches she put on them will not be removed. She obviously did this out of love and care and will be kept for posterity reasons and respect.
She painted some of the hinges on the doors (a touch I always thought Playmobil should have done). She also painted the spigots on the barrels (I found three large barrels on the tops of the piles last night - I know it's not much now they are rereleased (which is a good thing) but I've never had them before).
The olde female figure was interestingly customised with material to make a dress and a cape.
Initially looking at the pieces showed she also glued parts in place - structures as well as people in place. Apparently she had a family room in her house set up with the sets - a room sized diorama. It would be wonderful to see a picture of it, but I have not been able to see one.
Everything is in mint condition (minus the glue and some mild customization).
Little hints and clues are showing themselves in the pieces as to what is present. 2nd pic from bottom shows a siege ladder which would indicate 3123 or 3888. Since there is no seige tower that I saw it's probably 3888.

I might touch up some details (get rid of the loose threads), repaint where it has worn or not adhered properly, etc.
Oh, I also found the forge for the blacksmith. It's going to take a while to go through all the stuff. LOL
Wish you guys were here to help me.
I found a sign that reads 'Ratskeller' (although it looks like Ratsfeller). What set is that off of? I know some came with two different sets of signs (ie the Inn). I was wondering if this was for the 3444.
I found a pic on ebay but it says for the 3666 ... obviously they don't know what it goes with either.
-
:eh?: have no clue... I don't thinl these houses came with an alternate sign, but the various version of them did come with a different sign, i.e. the second version of a house or the third could have a different colour or word sign from the first one... let me check the collector...

Thank you!
I had mine hanging on the door knob in a bag and it's not there now ... My wife must have hidden it ...
keller means cellar in English. Town Cellar? Could be for the guard house (3444)?
-
It's nice that you will leave some of her customs as is. This is very sad to me, really.... these toys were once someone's pride and joy, and here they are chunked in a box and sold on ebay..... very sad. The same could happen to our collections one day. :-\

I can't find any version of any house with this sign... ??? But, since ''rats'' means advice, if I am translating correctly... and the Nuremburg coat of arms indicates a house of some authority... and since ''rathaus'' means city hall, thats 3447, and it does actually write 'rathaus'... maybe ''keller'' is another word for ''hall''? So probably this 'ratskeller' sign is from a version of 3447, a version that is not in the collector :o :o :o I think we may have made a new discovery here!!!

Yes. That is why I'm taking care of this. I want to have it as a memorial collection and it will not just get mixed in with the other stuff I have.
That said, when we die, the least of our worries will be our material goods we leave behind.
And that said, this was something very special to an elderly lady. I believe it deserves to be treated specially.
-
It is from the 3447, i have two signs for it they read RATHAUS and its b;ack letters in dark orange background, though this sign with the nuremberg crest looks better . have a suspicion might be from the 3444 tower also but i put my money on the 3447 due to the ' rat word part :)
All this steck, my god, what a great haul this is , i am itchy to buy more steck looking at all these walls etc , the thing playmobil ever made , by far the best , system x , this clip rubbish etc pale in comparison to the mediaval steck sets !!!! :) :) :) :)

I don't think it is for the Rathaus because that has a sign that read Rathaus. This is on another plastic sign so it must be from another building. (even though Playmobil may have given two sets of decals in the older sets they only gave one item to affix it to so you had to choose)
I bet someone on klickwelt would know.

Okay, the girls and I started to go through the smaller of the tubs today. This one has a lot of small accessories in it.
You can see how many figures we got out of it. The girls are in the pink container and the other one is for the guys.
The hair is all messed up and so are the accessories and armour. Something tells me this is not the way it was at the lady's house when she had her display. It will take a while to figure out which hair goes with whom and which accessories go where.
I'm not complaining, just stating a fact. This is actually a lot of fun and a kind of adventure / puzzle.

I do envy you sorting it all out Wesley.

I am intrigued . I must say in old set there were stickers in different languages and colour background . I have one similar with the nuremberg crest from the tower 3445 that reads Oubliettes or something in grey bakcground with the same nuremberg logo. when you find out let us know sir!

I am drooling here...
-
Yes the nuns and beer is very funny

Our monk is NEVER far from the beer. Actually he commandeered the big barrel as soon as he was out of the box!
I envy all those buildings too... Especially the Museum and the tower guard
-
What stuns me most is the color of the big barrels' "taps". They look silver, but they were never produced in that color, so they must be painted or resin copies.
Actually, metal taps are used today, but were not before the 1900s in my opinion, so the original "wooden" hue is more appropriate for "merry men", but the silver one would look brilliant in Victorian displays....
-
Some interesting custom paint work. Yes the white horns on the longhorn must be painted. They didn't use any 2 color molding for the longhorns. The hinges on the doors being painted black looks great. It brings out that detail and makes them seem more ornate than they do just plain brown.
-
As much as I actually felt like teasing by making a joke saying the horns are moulded in a different colour so it must be a factory experiment / promo, yes they are painted.
The barrel spigots even have black painted at the spout to add depth of a hole (a master modeller would drill them out hollow or fabricate new spigots) but these do look nice.
I especially like the hinges painted. Wish they would have come that way from the factory.
Time to head to town today and stock up on zip lock bags and small clear bins. :)
-
There is some great stuff in there! I like the painted hinges. I thought about doing this but never got around to it.
-
Oh wow, what an amazing collection! How I'd love to dig through those bins and sort it all out. Hope you have fun bringing that collection back to life!

I like them too.. Looks real nice.

Yes it does look good. They are painted very well - no slips or over brushing. I would do the nails in another shade to add depth of detail. I might do that to add to it; not to get rid of anything.
-
I know I love looking at pictures people post - so here are some more.
This is some of the more unique / special items out of the small parts bin.
They tell a lot about what sets are present.

Here are some of the painting details.
Personally I don't think it takes away from the forge. I could add to it though and make it look much more realistic and since it is already started ...

This is a detail of a wall piece I am speculating to be from the Wizards Tower Workshop (3839) - reason being the metalic sconce (not black). The detail on the torch is quite nice. Red and yellow and orange along with black where the torch would have dripped and been burned and the soot marks on the wall. (The torch is not glued in)
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6008/5956744410_ba22337f4c.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5956744410/)
Here is detail of the castle gate. This would be from the 3450 or 3446.

This chimney is detailed in the same way. It's almost like they are coloured with markers. So, they might have been done with the Playmobil colouring markers. (The sign post that is sticking out of the front of the building is glued on - it's almost a miracle how that stayed on there after being stuffed into a rubbermaid tub and travelling almost 2000 km in frieght!)

In case anyone was wondering how the bakery "door"/"serving window" works this will help out.

On the back you see the two tabs that the rings on the end of the chain hook into to hold it open. You just take it off of these to lower it.
Looks pretty fragile to me, if anyone was going to be buying one off ebay ask for a picture of that area, I can see a kid pushing down on there and snapping those off pretty darn easy ...
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6140/5956186681_a8815cd93f.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5956186681/)
You can also see the flat type of chain links on the original bakery. I wonder if the new bakery will use this type of chain or not?
-
Thanks for all the close-up pics. I just LOVE the blackened wall detail behind the torch, and around the chimney opening. That adds so much realism! It's so much fun seeing all this! I wish this lady could have been a part of our community. She obviously loved her playmobil very much!
-
Here are some more pictures of the buildings.
They were collector glued. Not all of them, just some. You can see as well that interior details were glued into some of them. Furniture and accessories and you can see where some painted feet were placed (and some feet shaped glue marks that indicate where a person stood as well as sat in a chair).
I'm not sure why they were glued (one can only guess) but it could be that since they were supposed to be set up in an entire room display that they were glued to stop them from falling over if bumped while one was going through the room (dusting, moving to vacuum, walking through to look at them, etc). Maybe as the lady got older she got more infirm and would accidently bump them and this was a way to help ensure it would continue to look nice or maybe even to prevent children from making too big a mess.
Sign details:

Sadly a broken sign holder (it can be glued!):
(http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6025/5956747712_94fe302d4e.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/27296563@N06/5956747712/)
Interior area where you can see glue marks for the table and people.

More detail. Makes me wonder who picked all the stuff off - I can guess but without evidence I will bite my tongue.

You can see the stress markes on these tabs from being pulled apart as they were glued.

Here is a contrast between the original yellow (much brighter even if this photo does not show it too well) and new yellow house pieces which are much more 'banana' yellow in colour.

Evidence of the presence of the 3444. The black pieces are glued on. This is one of the sub assemblies (Thank you for the instructions wolf knight or I never would have known this!!!)

Thanks for all the close-up pics. I just LOVE the blackened wall detail behind the torch, and around the chimney opening. That adds so much realism! It's so much fun seeing all this! I wish this lady could have been a part of our community. She obviously loved her playmobil very much!
That's what I was thinking when I was going through this one tub today. Maybe another tub tomorrow. Then after I go through them to get a rough idea of what is there then I guess it will come the serious sit down sorting.
I can see this taking all winter. ;D Or a dedicated weekend if I didn't have a real life with real family. ::)
She might be heartbroken to see it all now but when it's all sorted and displayed on shelves, I think she will approve.
-
Thank yu for the close ups Wesley!! WOW!! What a great time you are having! There are many great sets in there indeed!!
The painting details are so awesome... they bring more character to the sets. A unique way to mark them as yours and give them a personality and a history. And the paint on the musical instruments! this lady had an excellent idea to do all this!!

:o :o :o
Amazing! All those medieval houses, signs, barrels!! WOW!! 8}
Btw:
"Rathaus" (German) is "raadshuis" or "stadshuis" here in Dutch and is "City Hall" in English.
"Ratskeller" could be litterally translated as "City Hall's basement" (it's called "raadskelder" in Dutch).
It usually refers to a tavern or restaurant just below street level. Reason is in medieval times, the cellar/basement of a city-hall was often used as a tavern.
First pic attached is the inside of the "raadskelder" (Ratskeller) in my city Ghent, in Flanders (Belgium).
In this case the "raadskelder" is not in the City Hall but right next to it, in a building aside the "Belfort" (could be translated as "Bell Fortress" in English). The "Belfort" is a big tower with a huge bell in it - like the "Schuldturm" from Playmobil - to sound the alarm when there was a fire or when hostile troops were approaching the city.
-
thank you for this info Hadoque.
-
I'd love to see that tower made of Steck!
Maybe you could get a commission from the town to do that?!
They must have historical funding.

The new bakery doesn't have the chains (geobra doesn't seem to be fond of metal chains any more) it has got a pice of thread to do the thing.
Oh and yes, those tiny "hooks" to keep the latch open are known for breaking easily and collectors will try to check if they're OK before buying an old bakery...

Thank you for the info!
I think that new chains could be something to easily add to a new bakery. What I've noticed is that the slot for the chain to go through is cross shaped so you can hook a piece of chain in there to keep it open (something to think about if buying one on ebay and it shows the serving window open). Maybe the designer(s) thought about the tabs breaking and added that in as extra usability for the long term.
I do like how the new bakery has lots of baked goods.

Some people have already reported about finding fitting chains in hardware stores - for a reasonable price as well....

Here are some sets my wife bought for me at a garage sale.

The airplane will go perfectly with the Airport I got in the spring.

Here are some sets that I got from two private sales (on kijiji):

This shows just how "in"expensive Playmobil was in the 1990's.
Prices are from the Hudson's Bay Company store (more commonly known as "The Bay").

This just goes to show how much wasted space there is in some Playmobil boxes:
[url](http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/2029/img0297km.jpg)
Did the company think to justify their prices by having a big box? (that would be opened up and the person would see how empty it really was?!)
-
Great garage sale finds! :inlove:
The others are great, too, but finding that airplane in its box at a garage sale is awesome!
-
That was a garage sale :o :o :o :o
:hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit: nobody in Greece sell their playbil like that :'( :'( :'( (or anyhting for that matter)

So what do people in Greece do with all their old stuff?
-
So what do people in Greece do with all their old stuff?
they either hoard them (and thats about 90% old people hoarding) or throw away (90% of what happens to old stuff) ... no charity shops (apart from some shops run by the church but people avoid buying from there), no garage sales (houses don't have garages anyways, its mostly block of flats in every major city), no fleamarkets.
so its as I said, either hoard or throw away... its a cultural thing...

So you should introduce "dumpster diving".
Is ebay popular in Greece then?

Is ebay popular in Greece then?
Its a weird case... up until a couple of years ago, people did not want to make any transaction through the internet... having a credit card, sharing their data, mistrust and fear towards electronic commerce did not allow for a lot of use... but generaly, an agegroup between 16 and 50 years old are using the internet more than they used to. still transactions are at a low level, but yeah ebay is popular today, and there are even a couple of greek sites shaped after it. there is even a nice site that promotes excahnge of items that are not needed anymore... But the problem is mainly that people here dont like to own and use used products or items (thus too difficult for people to accept dumpster diving, unless they are homeless ir come from a low social background...), but also dont want to part with many of their possessions.... Its a very unique and weird case..

It's been a while since I've put anything on here - it's also been a while since I've been buying lots. There's only so much room and I did not need any more. I have gotten a few things here and there but have not posted them. However, since I have not done this in a while I will do some more.
The first is some dinosaur sets I found locally. They are not 100% complete but that's okay, they add to the ones we already have and the price was good.
Here is the load dumped out on the table:
Here is the spinosaurus set:
T-Rex set:
Hovercraft and 4x4 with cage:

Pteradon:

Giant croc (not part of the Dino Range proper, but it works with the sets):

My favourite lots to get are those of mixed parts that you get to sort though and try to figure out what you have got.
Here is one such lot. The images on ebay did not show all the stuff in the lot and that's how I like it - a nice surprise.
Here is the box:
The bag inside the box:

Other side:

Bottom of it:

Dumped out:
A lot of the Lighthouse Fortress accessories (wonder what happened to the lighthouse itself?). The figures, accessories and the extra dock piece are a welcome addition. Now my lighthouse will have a much more functional dock (and you can't go wrong with 3 more Spanish):
Lots of olde fixed hand primary colour figures. These are like super clean! It's like they've never really been played with or someone really scrubbed them somehow - like a dishwasher - but yet, I'd say they are still too clean for even that.
Pirate figures from set 3480:
If I go through the other accessories from other lots, I am pretty sure I can make this complete set out of old parts in the spares.
Beach family (I pulled the hair off one of the fixed wrist ladies and put it on her):
Space accessories:
Olde fireman accessories (there are three of the olde firemen in the fixed wrist figures):
Some Western accessories (and another sheriff):
Some medieval figures and accessories (they're what caught my eye for the lot):
These will go into the Dino's bin:
The figures and accessories from the 5803 Take Along Castle (again, like the lighthouse where is the castle?):
Dragon Knights 3319:
A couple figures from the 3668 Knight's Training Field:
A couple more Vikings (can you ever really have enough Vikings?! Yes, I realise the hat and beard are not for the vikings, they just happened to be in the picture ...):
Some extra parts:
I have no idea what the black hinged piece is from nor the black block pieces nor the red piece. Anyone able to shed some light on these?
Some extra City Life type accessories:
These might shed some light on the condition of the rest of the (missing) lighthouse ...

nice lot!
the red piece you don't know is used in some sets as a lock, to keep things closed.
for example in set 5154 http://playmodb.org/setpics/5154.jpg you can see it behind the cockpit and it holds together both sides of the cargo back when it's closed.
I hope I was clear :-[ :-[ :-[

Looks like a good haul!

I love these type of buys! The sorting through the stuff, the excitement of finding a complete set, the disappointment of missing just that one vital part, its all part of the addiction :D
Great finds!

Hmm. Looks like it's been a while since I've added anything to here ...
Here are some pictures of the 4300 I bought. I will update pics when it arrives. I think this was the last of the Steck buildings I was missing.
Now, just wait, because since I got this, I am SURE they will re-release it through DS.

Got this myself about 6 months go and I love it. Wonderful set with great parts. If it was rereleased, that would be great.

Lovely building, that train station. I'm still hoping to find one of those some day.
Enjoy your new additions!
