I also managed to get a 4435 while on holiday. Of course I couldnt resist having the Vikings conquer the Barbarian Outpost!

The end is a bit rushed as it was already late in the evening and I was getting about a musquito bite per second or so. And I needed to help with putting the kids to bed. And yes I left it until the last day of the holiday!
Bonus points for spotting my daughter!

As the vikings land, they can already see the outpost. They quickly form up and start their march.

The Vikings have long been spotted from the outpost and the Barbarians are ready for a fight. The leader shouts his commands while the Shaman casts his first spell

The missile hits one of the Vikings on the shield but he luckily manages to deflect it

One of the Viking spears hits one of the Barbarians square in the chest killing him instantly

Another spear sails over the outpost, while two are thrown short and harmlessly bounce of and down to the ground.

The spear hits the Viking captain straight in the eye (his last thought about one of those big round shields) and a crossbow bolt flies just over the kings shield.
Flame Strike!

The last man in the Viking line is hit by both the Balista as well as the Flame Strike. He is turned to ashes where he stands.

But the rest of the Vikings safely make it into the outpost.

Remember how you all laughed at the Shield Hop. Well now is the time, ON MY MARK! GO!!!

One of the Vikings sprints out, while two others put there shields in front and above them. The sprinter jumps from shield to shield and throws his axe straight at the Barbarian leader who moved there to strengthen the defense on this side.

While the Vikings Sprint out, it's chaos on top. The leader has fallen and taken the down the crossbowman in his fall.

The first Viking takes a leap, hoping to land on the platform.

With a quick thrust of a Viking sword the Barbarian leader dies. More Vikings run out to use the "shield stairs"

Hold Person!
The first Viking moves to the crossbowman, who has managed to stand again, and feels a tingle, but is able to shrug it off. While he connects with his sword, the crossbowman fires point blank shot to his chest. Both fall to the ground heavily wounded.

The next Viking warrior runs to the Shaman and puts the sword on his neck.
Surrender!

An axe whistles through the air and takes the Balista Soldier in the right shoulder.The situation is hopeless for the Barbarians

Like I said the end is rather sudden. But we can easily imagine, the Vikings create their first outpost in this land and use this as a base. They start conquering and pillaging until they are beating back by more powerful forces.
But for now it was a succesful Campaign!

I love the gathering gloom, it really gives the story atmosphere!
The flame strike is a touch of genius!
Oddly enough I was looking at the Barbarian ruin set today, but decided not to buy it as I'd already spent quite a bit on something else earlier. More on that when I can get some photos.

In regards to the "Shield Hop":
I shot the first part a decent amount of time before the second part. One of the main reasons for this is the problem I had with how to make the Vikings actually win. And as they are my sons Vikings and just because they are Vikings (SO COOL!) they needed to win. But how to make that happen without any siege equipment and just four spears (we lost the bow that comes with the Viking boat shooting the first part). The ladder that comes with the ruin is also not a succesful in this situation. Even while starting the shoot I still had no idea how to solve my problem. Eventhuogh I had had many nights to mul things over.
And then it hit me, first I just did the one with the shield above his head and then with the one in front was a logical next step. I was so please to be able to balance the figures just right. I luckily had one of those see through bases so the klickies were a lot more stable. I was really excited and quickly called my wife over when the idea was spawned. Shooting the rest of the story was easy from there although the end was done in quite a hurry.
Noone collected the bonus point yet *wink*

The shield hop once again proves that there is more to Playmobil then the designers can imagine. (Atleast I assume they didn't think of this in their design meetings *grin)

Wonderful story, Gis. The tight composition of your photos and the short text that goes with them both create and build up further the tension of the story. Superb!
I like the night shots - obviously a long and hard fought battle - and the clever way you thought of ending the story with the HOP, just the sort of thing you'd expect to see from Kirk Douglas in "The Vikings".
On a technical point, and I thought Martin would have picked this up, ballistas and crossbows are shot and not fired. Only weapons use an explosive material are fired.

Specifically for pointing out the technical stuff :-) I was actually debating between the two and well FIRE just sounds so much cooler then SHOOT! so I went with that. Of course had a realized that one was correct and the other not, the choice would have been easy and different.

I think some literary license is acceptable. I agree: "Fire" sounds much cooler than "shoot." But then, both pale in comparison to "At my signal...unleash hell" from the movie Gladiator. Now, THAT was cool.

Yeah I fully agree, however I don't think that would have been appropriate when all they were "unleashing" was a crossbowbolt, a spear, a Ballista missile and a Flamestrike. My imagination of hell is slightly worse *grin*

Vikings is a fairly quite theme here and i think there are great klickies that go very well together with mediaval and the drakkar ships are awesome. In fact its the only system x sets i really like !!!!

I have the vikings sets , 4 ships and quite a few special the blond and ginger hair ones . a total of about 140 vikings i think, i recetnly bought 150 gauls these go with romans but also i reckon with vikings as light infantry !!!
