Title: A Viking Voyage
Post by: Gis on August 10, 2010, 16:40:13
During our holiday we of course brought PM for the kids. We got a Viking ship for my son and a Peting Zoo for my daughter. I couldn't resist to make a photo story out of it so here goes.

It's my first one, so please give me pointers to improve :-)

Daddy!! DADDY!!

The Ship *pant* has come back!

Welcome the Captain home my son. Please guide him here directly for a report.

My King! Our voyage was succesful! We have discovered new land. I think we might have seen a small outpost which should post no problem to conquer!
Where are your men, Captain?

Around the campfire relaxing and sharing tales of our travels.
Tell them they have two nights, We sail on the morning after.

Ok man, I know we have just returned, but we need to sail again soon. The King promises us all the riches we can imagine in the new land, but first we must fight. You have two nights make the best of them!

MY MEN! I know your time here has been short.

But your people count on your for another mission.

A land, ripe for the plucking, awaits us!

Let us SAIL!

WOOO! *STOMP* *CHEER*

My son! My throne is yours in my absense, guard it well.

Of course my Father.
Hmmm, I think could get used to this! *wink*

We are ready my king.

Then lets go to the Boat.

And so the journey starts!

The captain navigates the ship expertly.

While the King has to hold on for dear life.

The journey is long and hard. The blue never seems to end.

Battleplans are drawn during the trip. As the outpost is close to the water, formations need to be taking straight away when they exit the boat.

And then after a long voyage they finally see land.

Great photos and story so far!

In the first photo the king's drinking horn is obscuring his face. I'd have retaken this from a different angle, but actually this picture is so similar to the second it doesn't really add anything. You coud remove it and combine the text for the first two pictures.*

Lots of left-haned people in the story, is that deliberate? The usual ratio is about 1 in 10.

The longship is a ship, not a boat

* A while ago I had an idea for telling a series of photostories in just 12 pictures or less, a bit like a cartoon strip. It requires discipline and skill to get everything into that small number of photos, so of course I didn't do many.

Great story and pictures, Gis.  The water shots are superb.  I like the way the figures fill the scene and the use of the natural surroundings.

In the story, you keep the tension up so it's exciting and it's nice, too, that there are some little jokes too.

But you can't end here!  We want:

invasion

battles

burning and pillaging

and then a return home leading to.......

What??????

Great pics though! And the water ones are perfect!   :wow: :wow: :wow:  :wow: :wow: :wow:

Great job!

Thank you very much for your support Sir Wolf, Damo, bonniebeth, Martin, Gordon, Baden, Playmo1989.

Let me answer all your question people:

RE:Will there more?

It's called "A Viking Voyage" not a conquest or battle or whatever so I guess this is it!

RE:The water

The pictures were taken in the swimming pool that was in our garden (well our garden during the holiday at least) I was shooting the pictures while in the water. I only used photoshop to get rid of chairs and the like in the background!

RE:Longhouse

Thanks a lot Damo, I made it from a cereal box, was a lot of fun being "crafty". Martin I think Damo meant the house in the background of the first couple of pictures (I could be wrong though)

RE:First two pictures

Thanks for your remark Martin. But maybe now (they were a bit to big earlier) that you see the entire picture, I can change your mind Martin. The focus is more the little boy excitdly running up to his dad who is happily enjoying his drink. He comes storming in just being able to yell to make sure he has his dads full attention when he is finally is within speaking range.

Hope that explains my reasoning.

RE:To many left handed people

WOW you have a sharp eye Martin. Thank you SOOO much for noticing. It makes me realize every detail DOES count. I had the help of my six year old for this. He was in charge of weapon/shield distribution. When he was done I noticed the exact same thing. But felt it would not be correct to go and change everything and make him feel like he made a mistake. I did however explain to him afterwards that most people will hold their weapon in their right hand and their shield left as there are more right handed people in the world. (All Polar Bears are LEFT HANDED btw)

Once again thank you for all your praise and comments and guess what......

next up....

Viking CONQUEST!!!

That's a great photo-story, Gis!  Normally I would be disappointed with a lack of closure, but I know what happens next. ;)

Thank you Karim. I actually had a piece of wood which is sort of the same colour that I used to place the klickies on and then put the leaves back over them again to cover the wood. I was very happy with the result :-)

That's a good idea, Gis, as you would have no problems with klickies falling over just as you press the shutter button.

Thats what you think!!! But those Vikings are an unrule lot. They kept pushing eachother over wanting to be in the spotlight. In the end I had a conversation with their King who seemed to have a lot more sway with them!

Thanx a lot Mina! And I think we have a perfect expression for you in Dutch

"Prettig Gestoord"

which roughly translates to "Pleasantly Crazy"

I think people without that are NOT normal though!!!
