Title: What is this - Play Big
Post by: Lindama on July 25, 2010, 00:30:42
Here is a link to the ebay auction. It looks a tad dodgy - well, the figures do. The desks look ok.

These are PlayBig, a rival at one time to Playmobil.  The figures are taller and less well-proportioned.  They have additional joints at the knees.  There were a number of legal cases by Playmobil over copying but PlayBig were never a real danger.  The vehicles and ships they made, especially the Unimog and iking ship, however, were really good.

No, you're quite right, Damo.  They have separately moving legs.  Apologies all!   :-[

No probs. They also have additional joints at the ankles.

Didn't playmobil win that lawsuit? That's how I remember it, anyway.

Thanks, Ali Baba.  I knew they had extra joints somewhere.

Playmobil won initially, but Play-Big appealed and they won so production of Play-Big continued but they were never the success Playmobil were.

I had a few Playbig figures when I was a kid that I mixed in with my Klickies. Their proportions were less pleasing, they didn't fit into a hand or pocket nearly so comfortably, and the moving legs & ankle joints didn't really do anything to increase playability.

Playbig . There were two basic Playbig figure versions a fat one and a newer slim one. I have about 100 playbig figures , best thing is the viking ship , it fits perfectly with playmobil and is of very good quality , some on ebay from time to time . on an old thread of mien i have pictures of it with playmoibl . Their mediaval castle is pretty much what playmoibl has recently launched , so similar its scary . I used to use the vikings playbig weapons on playmobil- DONT : they can damage the klicky grip as they are slightly thicker !!!!  I used to like them a bit , some nice western sets and cannons and some nice shiny knights and the vikings were quite cool , but always prefered playmobil .. Very rare to find so i am keeping well my 100+ playbig and sets...  ;D
