Hi everybody!
I have finally gotten up my nerve to go ahead and join the forum -- been thinking about it for a long time. I received my first playmobil set when I was 7 or 8, and I fell in love with it that very day. At the time, I was into Little House on the Prairie, and my mom gave me 3278a, an adorable covered wagon set. I was so impressed at how accurate it was. That same day, my brother received 3733, the indian camp. So in those days, my main interest was the western theme, but we really only had a few sets, as it was only sold at one small local toy store. Eventually, all my playmobil went to the attic, along with my other childhood toys. :(
Then one day, I was in Target with the man who is now my husband, and I noticed they had playmobil. I was excited to see some of the new things they had come out with. A few days later, my boyfriend surprised me with set 3135, the seal superset, and the rest is history. Down from the attic came all my old playmobil, including the old zoo set i had. I started looking for playmobil on the internet, and a few years and several hundred dollars later, I am an avid playmobil enthusiast. My main area of interest is animal themes. I have a big zoo layout, which unfortunately, I do not have space to leave set up all the time. But it is all very organized in a closet and comes out routinely. My dream is to have a big hobby room where I can leave it set up permanently.
My husband is very supportive, as he is a toy collector too. His interest is in legos, which to me is the opposite of playmobil, but at least he understand spending hundreds of dollars on toys! :-[

Welcome Bonniebeth!
What a great story! I also had some Western theme sets when I was a kid, though none of it survived into my adulthood. As a result almost everything I now have in the Western theme is off eBay, apart from a handful of sets and figures Playmobil still make available online.
Sadly Target currently have a very limited range of Playmobil on their shelves, maybe 5 or 6 different sets. My other two big local retailers, WalMart and Fred Meyer, have none at all, so it's getting hard to find Playmobil on the shelves anywhere. Only the specialist toystores carry a reasonable selection, usually at a markup.
Of course I complain, but in some countries prices are far higher and Playmobil is almost impossible to obtain.
cheers, Martin

yes, Target's selection is pathetic these days. TRU has a pretty good selection, although not much pertaining to my interests. They did have a 25% off sale last week, and I bought a few sets, but I buy most of my stuff online now through playmobil.

Welcome bonniebeth!
Good to hear that your childhood Playmobil was kept and did not get sold or given away!
Having a supportive partner makes it much easier for a collector to indulge their hobby - although not so good for the bank balance in the long term. ;)
Have fun with your klickies and Playmo animals! 8-)

 Greetings from Pennsylvania, Bonniebeth. It is wonderful to have you on board.
My introduction to Playmobil was through a western set and a hospital set that I purchased at Odd Lot in NYC, when I was around 30. I picked it up for the children in my classroom, but it was love at first sight. They were a big hit and offered a creative alternative on rainy days when recess was indoors. I had to keep replenishing the Klickies as many of them wanted to go home with the kids :o

Welcome, BonnieBeth!
I'm Gus,
live in Rio, Br.
I had no attic, therefore, my childhood playmo went all to younger cousins, and still are there.
(I don't regret. They do have their fun :) )
Nice to hear your husband is in lego .. There is some rivalry, all right, but, as you said, in the everyday life, they aren't so different from us, on the contrary ;D
Hope you enjoy the forum!
Gus

Hi, and welcome to PlaymoFriends!
My best friend is from Louisiana too, ;D
Can't wait to see you around the forum.
-
Hi! I'll be moving back to Louisiana soon!
I find your story a bit funny because I collect both Playmo and Lego. Of course my main interest is the Lego minifigs, so that's not really all too different from Playmo.

Yes, some people do like to collect both. My husband has just started collecting playmobil knights in addition to his lego city stuff. He went to TRU today and walked right past the legos (for the first time ever) and walked out with a bunch of small playmo sets. After paying of course. I need to be careful how I say that!

There are many ways. Link the pictures from online hosting sites in a post. Attach pictures to the post. Or post them in an album here on the site and post a link to the album in a post.
Hope this helps.

yes, it does. thanks!
